I completely agree with Amit and Mamta..Even I have noticed the forum activity go down in the past 2 days. As far as I have observed, the daily posts and polls did garner a lot of response.

The basic thing is, this is a public forum that caters to all types of people. Some people may enjoy in-depth analysis and discussions, while some may not be comfortable making such posts, but they may prefer voting and commenting. By restricting the types of posts that are allowed, we are basically restricting the people who participate in the forum.

Also, finding information of interest becomes an exhausting task with the merging of threads, etc. Members who have been around for a long time may find it easy, but new members, like me, have to put in a lot of efforts.

@asmi: indeed...! I hope Fivr understand and gv us creative liberty... As far as the spamming is concerned i think... Rules says that one line posts & repetitive posts are not allowed and thread discussion should be continued there only... So, we have no problems in working under the forum rules... But, restrictions on posting is a bit upsetting for me...!

I agree wid wat amit , mamta and others say that if we don't get any sort of creative liberty on this forum then how will the activtiy rise out her and the people will get bored too. i am not saying dat people keep making threads on same topics but everyone writes on the same thing wid a different perspective so merge them only when they say same things , becoz in case of merging the starter is nt able to get wat is the progress of his own post?

and attendance threads, daily polls and discussions are a much needed part of our daily activity and if they are closed down then don't knw how will we contribute ton this forum since all members are not so creative dat they write FF or OS or other things. plz pay heed to our pov too as we are all the members of this forum and wish the best for the forum.😕

Agreed with Amit, shivani n others that attendance posts, daily polls are much needed to increase the forum activity. Many of us find it easy voting n giving simple reply's when compared to creating long posts etc...

Thank you all for your response and I apologize for the delay on my part. Unfortunately I had a crazy day at work and was unable to check back as frequently.

I'll try to address the issues in the same post but please let me know if I do miss anything.

Daily polls: The problem with this issue is not that there are daily polls but that they are on the SAME thing. What character you liked today, what scene you liked today, etc. I totally understand that all members are different and interact at different levels and keeping that in mind I had told members (who PMed me regarding this in the past two days) that they are more than welcome to open ONE thread for the week where everyday members can discuss the dialogue of that day, character of that day or anything else they'd like. 😊 In poll threads mostly members reply with one words indicating what character/scene they liked and the same can be done in a weekly thread. And the poll in that case can be a weekly poll where members can vote each day of the week on the SAME poll. You can still have the poll and the small post discussion but at the same time the forum can remain uncluttered from the daily influx of poll threads. Please let me know if this requires more clarification because I'm getting a feeling that I may be speaking in run ons.. 😳😆

Merging of the threads:
Threads are only merged if a thread already exists for it. And in that instance, the newer threads are merged with the threads posted first because they get priority. In most cases, the threads are posted by active members and editing titles/updating posts is no issue. But if there is a thread posted by a member who isn't otherwise active in the forum, please feel free to bring it to my attention and I can either edit the threads for you or we can establish another thread and shift discussion there to allow for easy access of information. This has ALWAYS been an option, it's just that baring a few people not a lot of members ever asked me about it. 😳😆. Someone also suggested that we should be allowed to post updates on a topic in new threads to allow for easy access of information for new members. But I would like to point out that it is MUCH easier for members when all the information is in one thread and cataloged properly than when it is split over 10 different threads in the forum with no catalog of time. And if we do allow for multiple threads to be posted for new updates than I can guarantee you that each update in the matter will see 5-6 new threads being posted about the same thing which will have to be merged anyways.. 😆 So in order to make it easier for our members in all forums, all discussion on a topic is continued in one thread only and if you do accidentally post a new thread then that is merged. The idea is not to post multiple threads and have them be merged but to continue discussion in the one thread from the start. Please let me know if this helps.

New member discussions: I can understand how intimidating discussion can be when we are a new member - we were all there at one time or another. This is precisely why we have the Introductions thread for members so they can introduce them selves, get a feel for the forum and get established. I will regularly make the Introduction thread a sticky and if more established members make sure to welcome newer members in there and help them feel comfortable, I'm sure that issue should be resolved soon. 😊

Creative liberty:
This is first and foremost a discussion forum and therefore it THRIVES on creative liberty! All new ideas and posts are absolutely welcome and while we may try to curb/redirect such posts in a more forum-friendly manner, any creative liberty will never be hindered in the process. If you want to discuss a topic/make a thread, you're welcome to post and for the most part DT is (hopefully) very relaxed about that. But at the end of the day this is a forum of different individuals and if we have those that like to participate in polls, we also have those who like to discuss. And the important thing is to achieve a BALANCE of both kinds of threads so that one doesn't over power the other. In the past, the polls were over powering the discussion and with no one currently posting the weekly polls they asked me about, the discussion threads are the one directing forum traffic. But as with every new thing, it takes a couple of days for everyone to figure out how to work with it and find their comfort and once that happens, I'm certain that the discussion will pick right back up. 😊 I do appreciate everyone's patience while we help better the forum and ALL your criticism/input is extremely valuable to us as we work to make this a better environment for all of us. 😊

Discussions on scenes/dialogues: If there is a particular scene you like or a dialogue you want to discuss, you're absolutely welcome to make a thread to discuss it! I don't think there was ever any rule against that. Just to clarify, the rules were to limit the plethora of polls that had recently sprouted. But I am certain that since season 1 itself any discussion threads on specific scenes, dialogues, characters from an episode or in general has always been allowed!

Please feel free to let me know if there are any other issues that need to be addressed or concerns that you'd like our attention on. 😊

Regards,

Well... On merging threads... I think Mamta di will say if any issue is left or not... I never understand it at all 😳 😆 But yeah! On Daily polls! The title is same i agree... But eache episode itself carries variations, a day u will find some character irritating and the very next day he/she becomes the hero... These 5 different episodes cant be discussed at once...! And also if it happens on daily basis, then the kind of a response it is getting can do wonders to forum activity & CM ranking! 2. Favourite scene poll.: i hope u understand that every episode have different scenes, so variation in poll content comes Automatically... Sorry to say m not convinced with the idea of creating polls weekly, when its getting a huge response daily! If rating poll can be done daily then why not others???

Lets speak about the favorite scene poll for a minute.. Like you said, each episode has different scenes in it. How do you decide what scenes to include in the poll or how long each scene should be? What if you take scenes based on where the characters are but someone else describes scenes based on who the character is interacting with. Basically, all of this over all is very subjective to begin with. So it definitely is difficult to include in daily poll at all. The option for polls would probably best fit for simple things like characters or episode rating which are both pretty definite. 😊

For favorite scenes, instead of having a poll (which is usually pretty inaccurate due to the subjectivity of the situation) members can just post about what their favorite scene was. I really don't see the need for a poll when discussing favorite scene/dialogues because like you said, it is a very broad and subjective spectrum.

As for forum activity, it's not just the number of new threads that matter but actually the number of posts in each thread is what makes the difference. So if you have a bunch of new threads with only 4 replies in them each, that is really not better than say one thread with 18 replies. Concentrated discussions work better for CM rank and activity than sporadic discussions. 😳

In a poll... Lets continue with Favourite scene poll... We count all the scenes in to choose from... So the decision of including scenes are not at all an issue... Infact it will become difficult to include 10 scenes from 5 episodes if we create a weekly poll... PLUS if u havent seen, we do encourage comments in each polls, we do recommend to express your feel and view over ur favourite scenes...!

the simple thing is making polls helps in increasing both views & comments, thus, greater contribution to the activity, whereas, in discussion posts any mem. Will get fed up after discussing 2 to 3 topics rest will remain silent topics only... Daily polls stats are good and we hv seen some positive results in forum activity too... Many peoples are taking part which shows the interest factor is high too

So, why not encourage such polls & post which is showing great response rather than penning down each and every thing in 1000's of words! Its sweet & simple

That is a totally subjective thing Amit.. Unfortunately what counts as a "scene" is open to interpretation for different members. But lets say you do pick scenes based on your understanding and that's all great. As long as you can find a way for that discussion to happen in one thread over the week, you're more than welcome to continue with it. Multiple polls daily do not get much discussion even though you do post in there for members to express their opinion. And they end up pushing threads that are actually having discussion on them to the back pages. 😳

Have a look in the forum nowadays the no. Of silent topics are more than the last two weeks... The discussions that looks attractive always garner good response... No matter how many posts hv been posted a day! And if we started caring about each and every post then activity will not increase na... Forums like MB, PV, QH, SC make 100-200 posts everyday... We cant do that much but our forum can certainly do better than what we are we doing currently! Lesser the post lesser the activity...! And the universal truth is QUALITY POSTS will always become hot topics... U cannot force someone to discuss by reducing the variety of posts & polls... And m not the only one saying it! U see many members are unhappy with daily polls being shut 😔
