Thank you all for your response and I apologize for the delay on my part. Unfortunately I had a crazy day at work and was unable to check back as frequently.
I'll try to address the issues in the same post but please let me know if I do miss anything.
Daily polls: The problem with this issue is not that there are daily polls but that they are on the SAME thing. What character you liked today, what scene you liked today, etc. I totally understand that all members are different and interact at different levels and keeping that in mind I had told members (who PMed me regarding this in the past two days) that they are more than welcome to open ONE thread for the week where everyday members can discuss the dialogue of that day, character of that day or anything else they'd like. 😊 In poll threads mostly members reply with one words indicating what character/scene they liked and the same can be done in a weekly thread. And the poll in that case can be a weekly poll where members can vote each day of the week on the SAME poll. You can still have the poll and the small post discussion but at the same time the forum can remain uncluttered from the daily influx of poll threads. Please let me know if this requires more clarification because I'm getting a feeling that I may be speaking in run ons.. 😳😆
Merging of the threads: Threads are only merged if a thread already exists for it. And in that instance, the newer threads are merged with the threads posted first because they get priority. In most cases, the threads are posted by active members and editing titles/updating posts is no issue. But if there is a thread posted by a member who isn't otherwise active in the forum, please feel free to bring it to my attention and I can either edit the threads for you or we can establish another thread and shift discussion there to allow for easy access of information. This has ALWAYS been an option, it's just that baring a few people not a lot of members ever asked me about it. 😳😆. Someone also suggested that we should be allowed to post updates on a topic in new threads to allow for easy access of information for new members. But I would like to point out that it is MUCH easier for members when all the information is in one thread and cataloged properly than when it is split over 10 different threads in the forum with no catalog of time. And if we do allow for multiple threads to be posted for new updates than I can guarantee you that each update in the matter will see 5-6 new threads being posted about the same thing which will have to be merged anyways.. 😆 So in order to make it easier for our members in all forums, all discussion on a topic is continued in one thread only and if you do accidentally post a new thread then that is merged. The idea is not to post multiple threads and have them be merged but to continue discussion in the one thread from the start. Please let me know if this helps.
New member discussions: I can understand how intimidating discussion can be when we are a new member - we were all there at one time or another. This is precisely why we have the Introductions thread for members so they can introduce them selves, get a feel for the forum and get established. I will regularly make the Introduction thread a sticky and if more established members make sure to welcome newer members in there and help them feel comfortable, I'm sure that issue should be resolved soon. 😊
Creative liberty: This is first and foremost a discussion forum and therefore it THRIVES on creative liberty! All new ideas and posts are absolutely welcome and while we may try to curb/redirect such posts in a more forum-friendly manner, any creative liberty will never be hindered in the process. If you want to discuss a topic/make a thread, you're welcome to post and for the most part DT is (hopefully) very relaxed about that. But at the end of the day this is a forum of different individuals and if we have those that like to participate in polls, we also have those who like to discuss. And the important thing is to achieve a BALANCE of both kinds of threads so that one doesn't over power the other. In the past, the polls were over powering the discussion and with no one currently posting the weekly polls they asked me about, the discussion threads are the one directing forum traffic. But as with every new thing, it takes a couple of days for everyone to figure out how to work with it and find their comfort and once that happens, I'm certain that the discussion will pick right back up. 😊 I do appreciate everyone's patience while we help better the forum and ALL your criticism/input is extremely valuable to us as we work to make this a better environment for all of us. 😊
Discussions on scenes/dialogues: If there is a particular scene you like or a dialogue you want to discuss, you're absolutely welcome to make a thread to discuss it! I don't think there was ever any rule against that. Just to clarify, the rules were to limit the plethora of polls that had recently sprouted. But I am certain that since season 1 itself any discussion threads on specific scenes, dialogues, characters from an episode or in general has always been allowed!
Please feel free to let me know if there are any other issues that need to be addressed or concerns that you'd like our attention on. 😊
