Hello everyone!

As you all know, Dec 24, will mark the 100th birth anniversary of inarguably the most influential and revered singer in the Hindi Film Industry: Mohammed Rafi.

These polls are in his memory and for us to remember the legacy of songs he left us.

There will be 10 polls with 10 songs each totaling a 100 songs.

There will then be a 11th poll with the winners of each of these polls to decide the overall winner.

Poll # 2 : Rafi's Solo songs filmed on Shammi Kapoor

Shammi and Rafi on the other hand were like two bodies, one soul. You could not tell where the actor left off and the singer began. They were so attuned to each other that it seems almost miraculous. Shammi has told the story of how he was informed of Rafi sahab's passing: he was told "Aapki awaaz chali gayi". They had a great bonding and chemistry and that was evident in the way Rafi delivered hit after hit for Shammi.

I'm aware these are just skimming the surface of Rafi's vast repertoire, but I had to limit it to 10 so some of them are the popular songs, some are my choices and some are songs that I think most people enjoy. If you don't find your favorite here, please don't be disappointed. Vote for one in the list and share your favorite in the thread.

Along with the polls, I have wanted to do my own tribute to the man, so I have sung the first few lines (mukhda) of each of these songs and will be posting them below each poll.

My apologies if the recording quality is not great - I don't own any fancy equipment and my voice was faltering a bit too off late. But it's earnest, heartfelt and my humble appreciation for a singer I admire greatly.

Great liz 🤶 awesome presentation 👏

Liked Ehsaan tera hoga and badan pe sitaare the most 👏

Your voice modulation was evident in badan pe sitaare ✨ Which means you also had the right mindset to sing.. you know how much i love to play with different voice textures myself 😌 So i can only appreciate if someone else is putting xtra effortz in it 😌

I also have fond memories with this one - as it was one of my first recordings (although through mobile only but with a track unlike you)

Being able to sing without a track means something and it takes some courage to show ur raw voice to others without any manipulation 🎤🎤

Thanks for sharing your metallic (sensuous types) voice here 🔩

Thanks so much, Spidey. smiley27

I really did not expect critique/ appreciation on my singing here bcos a) I did not expect anyone to notice b) It was just done as a personal tribute to him so wasn't really focusing on getting it right. The singing came from the heart so it might not have been technically perfect. But I do appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment on what stood out to you. Badan pe Sitare is such a song, right? You cannot sing it without the right attitude! smiley36

How can I pick one song? The only thing which made me able to do is that every song is a hit and I am sure every song will be voted.

Aye Gulbadan for the perfect control on high and low pitches.

Shankar Jaikeshen were really good here, I guess there are some subtle shades of some other songs in here, one is I think Le Gayi dil from Love in tokyo and the other is Raat Ke humsafar from an evening In Paris, these other two songs are also quite good, both were composed by SJ.
