Nila in Tamil means Moon

Vennila means Bright white moon

Vennilave Vennilave (O bright white moon)

Film: Minsara Kanavu

Music: A.R. Rahman

Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Singers; Hariharan, Sadhna Sargam

The Hindi version has been posted I think, the lyrics are an almost exact translation from the Tamil version.

vennilavae vennilavae vinnaiththaandi varuvaayaa

O bright white moon, o full moon, will you cross the skies and come to me

vilaiyaada jodi thaevai

I need a playmate

indha booloagaththil yaarum paarkkum munnae

before anyone on the Earth can spot you

unnai adhikaalai anuppi vaippoam (vennilavae)

we'll send you back to where you came from

Nila kaigirathu..neram theigirathu..yaarum rasikevilaiyea...

Oh eyes! You fell in love

Ravi means Sun. This is a classical song from a popular stage musical from the 60s and 70s.

https://youtu.be/aBce258HYvM?si=eHzysnwaP3dwyk2N

Mānāpamāna was first performed in 1911. It is not "from the 60s and 70s."

Lyricist: Krishna Prabhakar Khadilkar

Music: Govind Tembe

Asha Bhosle never acted in this play; she only sang covers of some of the hero's songs that had been performed on stage by her father, Dinanath Mangeshkar.

In this song set to Rāga Tilaka Kāmoda, the hero Dhairyadhara jokingly tells his attendant Vanamālā (the heroine Bhāminī in disguise) that he is the sun (i.e. burning hot in battle), so what is he doing parading with the moon (a medal) on his headgear? He goes on to say that what (lustre) the moon cannot attain in the sky is found in her face.

Vennila Vennila Vennilave

Film: Iruvar (1997)

Music: A.R. Rahman

Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Singer: Asha Bhosle

Vennila vennila vennilave, vandhade mudhal kadhal

O moon, o bright full moon, here comes (my) first love

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAPHomV3J1M

Aishwarya Rai's debut movie showcasing the rivalry between MGR and Karunanidhi. Aishwarya's character was supposedly modeled on Jayalalitha. ARR infuses this song with ebbs and flows that Jazz is known for and Asha Bhosle admirably takes the challenge and knocks it out of the park. Not an easy song to sing by far!
