Javed Akhtar and Himesh Reshammiya team up for Namaste London

In what comes across as an improbable combination, popular singer Himesh Reshammiya and poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar are going to team up soon. Akhtar is penning the lyrics for a soundtrack composed by Reshammiya.
The film that will see the merging of the popular with the intense, is Vipul Amrutlal Shah's forthcoming project Namaste London.
Talking about this unusual jugalbandi, Reshammiya says, "Javedsaab is an icon, and has a great body of work. I always dreamt of composing songs written by him." There will be nine songs in all. Reshammiya says, "Each song will accentuate the different facets of love and romance. I will sing three songs myself and I hope to silence my detractors who complain that my music is becoming repetitive."
Javed Akhtar is looking forward to it as well. He says, "Himesh is a phenomenon. When we first met, he held my hand and said, 'Javedsaab, I want your poetry'. That one statement did the trick."
Akhtar feels that he qualifies to be in the popular category too. "I've always written for commercial films and I'm very proud of it. The only thing I refuse to do is write vulgar lyrics or lines that are grammatically incorrect," he says.

Mumbai: Love him or hate him, you just can't ignore him.

Music director-tuned-singer Himesh Reshammiya sung his way up the music charts this year but says his best is yet to come.

"If I am saying that it is the best music of next year then see I have to face you people also. So, I know ki joote bhi pad sakte hain. So, itne confidence se kah raha hoon to sure hoon to kah raha hoon. (I know I can be a flop. But I am saying it with so much confidence as I know I will be a hit)," Reshammiya says.

Call it confidence or over-confidence, but that's Reshammiya claiming to deliver next year's biggest musical hit in director Vipul Shah's new project Namaste London.

In an industry where modesty is supposed to be the 'right' thing, Reshammiya's claims have left Shah a little apprehensive.

"Today he is claimed quite big. I am scared. I told him that you claimed something so big that I am scared. But he said he is ready to face the music," Shah says.

Reshammiya is also banking on lyricist Javed Akhtar, whom he's working with for the first time.

Though Javed is also skeptical about these tall claims, they make him nostalgic nonetheless.

"When we were in 70's writing scripts, we were known for talking like this. That we would finish a script and even before its release we would announce that this film will at least earn this much and this film will be golden jubilee - so on and so forth. So when I see someone younger talking like this it reminds of my younger days," Akhtar says.

The film's music will be captured three CDs - the club, the remix version and the original score.

While Himesh's critics will have to wait till next year to dismiss his claims, this year there's no doubt that no one can stop the sensation.

Hey all, how is everybody doing? Ash thanks for all the articles. Ange, Jem and all - how are you doing girls. We dont get to talk often these days. We keep missing each other all the time.

Great news, got tickets for the show. Woo hoo cant wait to see my guy. Looking forward to seeing him tonight on boogie woogie. Hey I have become such an idian now I know as much as you know ha.. ha...

I also want to learn Hindi - really - because I work with a lot of indian clients at work and if I knew hindi its going to be better. I am trying to find a book where I can learn basic spoken hindi. Any suggestions my friends?

Himesh is really doing great and I am happy to noitice people he didnt believe in him at the beginning have started to believe in him now. As I have always said he is going to be a world star - not just India.

Ash - have you seen the dvd - one and only. I have tried but its all sold out. But one person promised he will get one for me. So I am excited.
