An optician is allowed only to prepare lenses per the prescription of an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. An optometrist can test the eyes of a patient and prescribe corrective lenses, in addition to being able to do whatever an optician can. An optometrist cannot prescribe medication to treat eye ailments. That only an ophthalmologist can do.
