CHAPTER - 26

Payal was brought home and the kids' naming ceremony was also held.One kid was taken care by Payal and the other one was by Nupur.At night,while Nupur was making the baby go to sleep,Mayank was lying down beside her and was looking how she was taking care of the baby.He said,"You know you will be a very good mother."She replied,"Ha main jaanti hu kyuki har aurat mein kahi na kahi ek ma chupi hui hoti hai."He said,"Ha shaayad,par jis tarah se tum bachcho ko sambhaalti ho na main to definitely keh sakta hu ke future mein agar tum fir se shaadi karogi to tumhaare husband ko bachcho ko lekar tension karne ki koi zarurat nehi paregi."Nupur stopped patting the baby on hearing him.Her hands shivered for a second.Mayank continued,"Pata hi nehi chala na kaise 9 mahine guzar gaye,ab sirf 3 mahine baaki hai fir tum apne ghar aur main apne share ke saath apne ghar."She composed herself and replied,"Ha to jab tum shaadi karoge tab tumhaari biwi to bara pareshaan hogi,kyuki tumhe apna ek bhi kaam karna nehi aata aur bachche...unko to uthaana tak nehi aata hai tumhe."He said,"Ha par jab mera beta hoga na main seekh jaaunga."She asked,"Beta??"He said,"Ha,mera ek sapna hai ke kabhi agar meri shaadi hui and by any chance,main apni wife ke saath khush raha to main chahta hu ke mera ek beta ho,jo bilkul mere jaisa ho smart,handsome,witty,samajhdaar aur ha ek cheez aur kamsekam uski ma na tumhaare jaisi na hokitna jhagarti thi tum mre saath."Nupur said,"Ha tum to kabhi kuch kehte hi nehi the,bilkul apni zabaan par taala laga kar bethte the.Huh!!Bare aaye!!Vaise bhi tumhaare jaise aadmi se shaadi karega bhi kaun,kisiko apni zindagi barbaad thore hi karni hai.Vo to main thi ke pata nehi kaise 9 mahine tumhe jhel liya aur chahe koi bhi ho,par tumhe aur agar tumhaare jaisa koi baddimag beta ho gaya to usey jhelne ki taaqat kisi aur mein nehi hai."He sat in front of her said,"Oh to tum ye kehna chahti ho ke tumhaare alava mujhe aur koi jhel nehi sakta.Is that so?"She agreed and replied,"I have proved my point!Maine already tumhaare saath 9 mahine beeta liye hai."Though they were talking in a low voice,but their argument was getting heated up.He sat on his knees and said,"Isiliye main beti nehi chahta,kyuki main ek dragon lady ko jhel jhel kar itna pareshaan ho gaya hu ke dusre ko jhelne ki mujhme himmat nehi hai."Nupur replied,"Ha aur agar mujhe beta hua na to main usey kamsekam 3 saal tak tumse dur rakkhungi taaki uski ek bhi galat aadat na lage.Main usey bilkul apne jaisa banaaungi."He mocked,"Ha aur phir uski zindagi barbaad karo,usey apne jaisa boreing banaao.Mere saath rahega to mere jaisa champion banega."Nupur grinned,"No mera beta mere jaisa banega."He too grinned,"Ji nehi,mera beta mere jaisa banega."Their voice alongwith their argument slowly raised which gradually awaken the sleeping baby in Nupur's lap and it cried out.She said,"Dekha tumhaare vajah se iski neend tut gayi.Ab mujhe isey waapas sulaana parega."She tried to sing a lullaby but the baby was crying so loudly that nothing worked.Even Mayank tried to stop its cry,but all his jumpings and making faces went in vain.Nupur laid the baby down and together slowly patted her and Nupur sang another lullaby and the baby finally fall asleep.He smiled and said,"Jab vo aise uth jaayega na to bilkul aise hi milkar sulaayenge."She nodded her head and said,"Aur uske liye hum har alternative raate jaagenge."They had an eye-lock which was broken by a voice,"How wonderful!!Tum log future planning kar rahe ho?"Nupur and Mayank returned to their senses and looked at the direction and found there Payal standing.She said,"Maine dekha abhi tum dono isey kaise sula rahe the,sach mein bohot cute lag rahe the.Well carry on,main lekar jaati hu isko,iske papa chilla rahe hai ke aane ke baad se iski shakal hi thik se nehi dekhi,you know na betiya baap ke liye obsession hoti hai.Goodnight!!"Payal took her daughter and left from there.They both lied down and then remained quiet.Suddenly Mayank asked,"Hum dono ye sab kya discussion kar rahe the by the way??Ye bachche vachche??"Nupur replied,"No idea!!"They again remained silent and then he again said,"Achcha Nupur ek baat to bolna,agar hum ye dkhaave ki jhuti shaadi na karte to kya hum aaj aise hi bachcho ko lekar ye saara discussion karte?"She replied,"Pata nehi shaayad karte,par ha ek baat to pakki hai,ke agar hum sach mein khushi se ye shaadi karte aur hamaara ek beta hota na to sahi mein main tumhe,uske aas paas zyaada ghumne hi nehi deti.Khair...ab in sab baato ka koi faayda nehi hai."He agreed and nodded his head and replied,"Right!Ab in sab baato ka koi faayda nehi hai.Jo ho hi nehi sakta uske baare mein soch kar khaamakha apni energy loss karna main to bewakufi samajhta hu."Nupur said,"Right!!To ab so jaao,kal mujhe bohot kaam hai."They turned against each other and slept.Thought both were pretending to sleep,they were thinking about the recent discussions of them only.Mayank thought,"Agar sahi mein aisa hota to??I know thori chirchiri hai,zabaan tez hai par dil ki buri nehi hai.I mean practical hai."Nupur thought,"Jo impossible hai uske baare mein soch kar kyu apna dimaag kharaab kar rahi hai?Itna irresponsible aur spoilt larka hai by god!Main maanti hu dil ka bura nehi hai,par...well Stop thinking Nupur and concentrate on sleeping."They both closed their eyes and fall asleep.

Next morning,Nupur woke up early and prepared breakfast for everyone.When Payal finished feeding the babies,Nupur sat with the babies to take care of them and Payal took care of everyones breakfast.When she returned to her room,she found Nupur playing with the babies and Dhruv was fighting with his tie.Payal slapped on his hand and said,"Aapko tie baandhni bohot achche se aati hai,phir bhi aap hamesha aise naatak karte rehte hai."Dhruv replied,"Kyuki ek yahi time hota hai jab tum mere kareeb aati ho,varna pehle to tumhaare paas dewar tha jiske liye tum mujhe avoid karti thi aur ab to bachche hai aur vo bhi do do.Pehle mujhe Mayank se jealousy hoti thi ab apne khud ke bachcho se hoti hai."Payal said to Nupur,"Dekha ye na duniya ke pehle baap hai jinko apne hi bachcho se jalan hoti hai."Nupur replied,"Jalan to isiliye hoti hai na kyuki bhaiya aapse pyar karte hai."Dhruv said,"Dekha kitni samajhdaar bachchi hai.Mayank ko nehi pata usey biwi ke roop mein kaunsa heera mila hai."Payal agreed and replied,"Ha vo to hai,iske kadam ghar mein parne se pehle hi jo khushi itne saalo se mujhe nehi mili vo mujhe mil gayi.Vaise ab jab tu chichi ban gayi hai to jaldi se mujhe bhi bari mummy bana de."Nupur blushed and said,"Kya didi aap bhi."Dhruv said,"Tum bhi na Payal abhi to ek saal bhi nehi hua hai inki shaadi ko,abhi kya bachcho ki baat lekar beth gayi?Abhi ye dono hi bachche hai,inhe pehle inki shaadi shuda zindagi enjoy to kar lene do.Bachcho ke aane ke baad to vaise bhi zindagi unhime ulajh kar reh jaati hai.Pehle inko mentally bachcho ke liye prepare hona hoga na."Nupur said,"Bhaiya!!Didi!!Please na aap dono koi aur baat kijiye aur bhaiya kya aapko office nehi jaana?"He nodded his head and agreed and then Payal sent him to office.

Nupur returned to her room to clean it and make it look like humans stay here.When she opened the wardrobe to clean it,she found their contract papers.She opened them and was very sad thinking that she had to leave this house,this family after 3 months according to the contract.She remembered all the time that she had spend with this family and Mayank of course.She never thought that her relation with Mayank will turn up into something like that.Nupur said to herself,"Ab mujhe dheere dheere is ghar se jaane ki tayyari shuru kar deni chahiye.Ab to waqt bhi ho chala hai,par usse pehle bhi to bohot kuch karna parega,bohot saara kuch hai jo abhi bhi karna baaki hai.Aayi to thi is ghar se jaane ke liye,par pata nehi kyu ab is ghar ke saath ek aisa rishta sa jud gaya hai ke ab is ghar ko chod kar jaane ka mann hi nehi kar raha hai,par main janti hu mujhe jaana to parega hi kyuki maine contract sign kiya hai."She resumed her work when she got Mayank's call and he invited her over lunch at his favourate restaurant.At the appointed time,Nupur reached the restaurant and found a table being booked and Mayank was already waiting for her there.On seeing her,he got up and greeted her and pulled the chair for her.Nupur asked,"Achaanak se ye lunch ka programme kyu banaya hai?Tumhe pata hai na bachche kitne chote hai aur didi unhe akele nehi sambhaal paati hai,phir bhi?"He replied,"Arey yaar!!Tum bhi na kya jab echo tab bchcho ke peeche pari rehti ho?Itna bhi busy nehi hona chahiye ke tum itne important din bhi bhul jaao."She was surprised on Mayank's mentioning that it was an important day.She asked,"Aaj to na tumhaar birthday hai aur naahi mera aur naahi hamaari anniversary to phir aaj kaunsa din hai?"He was very angry on her and said,"Tum larkiyo ko fashion ke alava aur kuch yaad rehta hai?Bhul gayi,aaj hi ke din to hum pehli baar mile the vo sadak par,jaha hum dono kitna jhagde the aur phir tumne mere dosto ko kya sabak sikhaya tha,khaas kar Shalini ko."Nupur was excited and said,"Us baat ko ek saal beet gaye??Mujhe to pata hi nehi chala aur mujhe to yaad bhi nehi tha ke aaj hum dono pehli baar mile the."Mayank taunted,"Vo kaise yaad rahega,hamesha jo bachcho ke peeche jo daudti rehti ho."Nupur replied,"Jaise vo tumhaar ekuch nehi lagte hai na?By the way tumhe ye din yaad kaise reh gaya?"He replied,"Tum meri dosto ho na to dosto ki har baate yaad reh jaati hai aur phir tum to meri sabse khaas dost ho."She looked at him with a jerk and asked,"Khaas???Mmmhmm kitni khaas?"He winked at her and asked,"Tumhe kya lagta hai?"She just smiled back instead of replying.

After lunch when they both came out of the restaurant,they just sat inside the car when Nupur saw an ice cream van.She immediately started pushing Mayank and said,"Mayank jaao na mere liye ek ice-cream lekar aao."He asked,"Itna saara khaana kha kar bhi tumhaare pet mein jagah hai?Khud jaakar kyu nehi kha leti?"She replied,"Ice-cream ke liye main kabhi bhi manaa nehi karti aur phir tumne mujhe invite kiya hai na to tum hi mujhe laakar doge.Jaao!!"He angrily looked at her and said,"Kya musibat hai yaar!!Ruko ek minute laata hu."Saying he got out of the car and walked towards the van.After purchasing ice-cream for her,while he was returning,something happened which apparently changed the whole world for Nupur.A big heavy car was coming and before Nupur could warn him,the car hit him and he fell down on a pool of blood on the road.Nupur came out of the car and the moment she saw him falling on the road,she stood still for a few seconds since she could not believe that it was really Mayank.After a second or two,when she came back to her senses,she screamed Mayank's name and ran towards him.She reached him and by that time people already gathered around him.She sat beside him and took his head on her lap and screamed,"Mayank!!!Mayank!!Aakhe kholo Mayank tumhe kuch nehi hoga.Tum mujhe aise chor kar nehi ja sakte.Please koi ambulance bulaao,please."He,for a second opened his eyes after Nupur screamed his name a lot and then tried to touch her but at the next moment,he closed his eyes and went into unconscious state.
