This is something like a one-shot from Gunjan's perspective...I just started watching this part, and the words just came automatically. I didn't mean for it to be so long, but that's what happens when Rati and Sanaya enact something so emotionally charged as a confrontation like this with flawless perfection! The clarity with which they understand the nuances of their characters as well as the Nupur-Gunjan relationship, with all its layers and intricacies...Naturally it could only lead to me attempting to write out everything and trying to understand Gunjan's feelings. I'm just as confused as everyone else is about Nupur - hence the perspective.
The ENTIRE MJHT team deserves a standing ovation - after so long, a wonderful episode with my favorite four!

"Bahut din ho gaye teri awaaz sune huye. Please, gaa na, Gunjan. Please!"
Gunjan closes her eyes, and the memory comes flooding back. This song, the same one she has sung time and time again...First an expression of her feelings about being in a new city with no one but her Di to cling to for support...Now a plea to bring her sister back to her...It takes immense effort to sing as the tears flow slowly down her cheeks.
She finishes singing, but the only sound that follows is that of the birds chirping, oblivious to the sorrows that hang in the air. Gunjan's hopes plummet to the ground as Mayank comes back to her and Samrat. He hadn't found her, and she hadn't come.
They turn to leave, but a force stronger than anything they have ever experienced before urges them to turn around...And she is there. Nupur.
"Tum jaa rahi ho na, Di...Toh kuch toh chod kar jaana hoga..."
"Kuch nahi, Gunjan. Sab kuch..."
Gunjan walks slowly toward the woman standing before them, her feet moving forward as if propelled by themselves, as if she is detached from the rest of the world and the only world that exists is the one in which she and her Di are in...But is she really there...? She's not an apparition, a creation of a hopeful mind, an incomplete heart, a longing soul...?
Struggling to take a shaky breath, blinking back tears as she looks into cool brown eyes, Gunjan reaches out trembling hands to cup her sister's face, and she knows that she is not living in a dream.
"Di...Di..." The words form on her lips, but no sound comes out. Her hands drop from Nupur's face to her shoulders, confirming that the person standing before her is living, breathing...The overwhelming sensation is enough to send her collapsing to the ground, hands sliding, grasping at those arms that had encircled her in a protective embrace year after year - an embrace that had left her feeling vulnerable and cold for the past three years.
When she has enough strength to take a breath, the air comes in a great, rasping shudder, and an anguished cry escapes her throat, a half-sob and a whimper that would have evoked pity from even the hardest of hearts. The pain that had been bottled up for years stings as Gunjan cries, gasping for breath at the feet of her Di. Di, who was never just an elder sister to her...She was, and is, everything to her. Her sister, her father, her mother, her friend, her entire world.
Nupur stands there, unmoving, her face expressionless, as Gunjan clings to her just as the dying cling to the air and memories around them, afraid to let go.
Samrat and Mayank ask her why she won't scold Nupur for tormenting them so; Gunjan lets out a strangled, "Nahi! Main kisi ke saath nahi hoon. Mere Di ke alaawa main kisi ke saath nahi hoon!"
And how could it be otherwise? They had always been there for each other, through the hardest of times. Nupur had always been there to wipe Gunjan's tears and console her; Gunjan had always been there to calm Nupur in times of panic. They were each others' strength. Gunjan would never let Nupur leave her side again, not ever, no matter what it took.
"Di...Tum jo bhi kahoge...bilkul waisa hoga! Sab kuch tumhari marzi se hoga! Bas...Bas mujhe kabhi chod ke mat jaana!" Her voice cracks as her self-control crumbles. "I promise, Di! Tum jo bhi kahoge, woh hoga! Lekin tumhe bhi promise karna hoga...Ke tum mujhe kabhi chod kar nahi jaaoge. Tum mujhe kabhi akela nahi chodogi! Promise karo, Di! Promise karo..."
Nothing could have prepared Gunjan for the shock that follows when Nupur pulls her hands out of Gunjan's, stepping away from her. She looks at her hands, and then up at her sister, confusion on her face. And nothing could have prepared her for the complete confusion that swirls around them all when Nupur speaks.
"Yeh...Kya naatak laga rakha hai?"
