The next step Samrat took was to talk to his mom and friends about getting Gunjan discharged. This was becos of two things. One becos it was Gunjan's wish to stay at home till her last breathe, and he promised he wud take her home. And second he wanted to get married to her as soon as possible.
Samrat's mother tried her best to get Gunjan discharged and provide private home care but both his mother and friends were not ready, initially, for the marriage. They thought Samrat is doing all this becos Gunjan is sick. They didnt understand that Samrat is not doing all this becos of her, but he is doing it becos of him, becos of them, becos of their love. He loves her so much that he didnt care if she is sick and how many days they had together. None of the things mattered to him. But what mattered to him was, what his heart told him and what God told him while he asked Him to give Gunjan back to him in his prayers.
Maybe his mom and friends thought that he is doing it out of pity or maybe they thought he is doing it becos she'd be gone soon. But Samrat was clear. He wud have married her even if nothing happened to her in the future. Becos, it was Gunjan who taught her the most beautiful lessons of life. About being helpful, patient, kind. About being optimistic even in times of hardships. It was only becos of her, Samrat is a changed person.
When he was 20, his life changed forever.
The other day, Gunjan was discharged from the hospital. She was really happy to have got discharged but she had to use a wheel chair to move since she was unable to walk bcos of her pain. At night Gunjan was staring outside the window when Samrat entered the room. At first he saw her smiling as she is always happy when she is surrounded by nature. But suddenly the smile faded away. He came forward and sat beside her. Caressed her face from her hair to her cheek. "Tell me where are they?" he asked her softly. She turned towards him. Small tears were rolling down her eyes. He wiped them and she leaned on his chest slowly.
"Tell me." he asked once again, as he kissed her head.
The wedding was planned 1 week later. Two days before the wedding when Gunjan was sleeping, Samrat gave him one more surprise. As she rubbed her eyes a little when she woke up, the vision became clear. "Look whose here." he said. He was standing near her, while she sat on her bed. As she came to her senses, she cudnt believe her eyes. She was quiet for a moment. Then suddenly she looked at Samrat and began to cry out of happiness and joy. "Is'is this for real?" her voice cracked as she pointed those who stand there and cried. He hugged her, "Yes...yes this is real." he said. The two important people of Gunjan's life stood there in front of her, not having the strength to go near her, just looking how big their daughter had become and what a wonderful person she is. They knew about her illness by now but did not want to speak about it. Samrat's and his mom made them go near her and left the three for sometime. All the three did was cry. Neither did they bring their past, neither what will happen in future. All they did was cry and feel happy of what they have in front of them which is the PRESENT.
The day of wedding was the most unforgettable moment for Samrat and Gunjan.
Suresh, Gunjan's father and Kaur, Samrat's mother had some mutual decisions made. They decided that they wud get Samrat and Gunjan married by Anand Karaj, which is Sikh wedding ceremony, first, in the morning and then proceed by the Christian wedding according to Gunjans wish, in the evening. At first Samrat was reluctant, since he thought that was really not necessary and he was worried about Gunjan's health. But when Gunjan told him that she wud be fine, since she cares for the feelings of her parents as well his mother too, Samrat asked it to be very simple ceremony in Gurdwar with only five of them.
It was 1st March, when Samrat and Gunjan were ready to tie the knot and become one. The day brought so many happiness and prosperity in their life.
The ceremony at Gurdwar was in the morning. Gunjan was getting dressed in the room with the help of her mother. As her mother dressed her she stared at her mother. Suddenly her mother stopped working when she saw Gunjan staring at her. And hugged her tighly. "Gunjan, I wish you a happiest life ahead my daughter. Keep this with you forever." It was another gift that Gunjan received from her mother. It was the cross locket with a chain. Gunjan wore it there in front of her.
*At the Gurdwar*
Anand Karaj or Blissful Event started to take place. Samrat was already present at the place, when Gunjan arrived on her wheelchair with her mother and the nurse. She was wearing a simple red with golden stripes salwar suit and the dupatta covering her head. She dressed and looked simple but still looked the most beautiful person. Samrat was in his simple kurta with his head covered with a piece of cloth. He looked at her and she looked at him. They both smiled for a moment. He cupped her face in his hands slightly when the Guru started with the main event.
He explained: marriage is not merely a physical or a legal contract but it is a fusion of the souls; a holy union between the two souls, where physically they appear as two individual bodies but in fact are united as one. The couple must feel and think alike and both must be completely identified with the other, i.e they need to become "one spirit two bodies."
Samrat and Gunjan carefully listened to what the Guru said, they glanced at each other and smile with affection as if the Guru just said the definition of the love they share. And then they had to take the four rounds, which signify the journey of the soul towards Almighty.
A piece of long red clothe was given in Gunjan's hand, the other part of which Samrat holded. Gunjan was not forced to stand up since it was difficult for her. Samrat was in front of her while holding her hand and the rounds taken.
As the Guru sung while they took the rounds, they looked at each other promising about their future life, whatever it may be. After the rounds they bow in front of the Guru and Samrat fills the sindoor in Gunjans head. A tear finally drops from Gunjans eyes. Samrat comes closer and gives a peck on the same place. Even their parents' eyes get filled with water.
The wedding ceremony at Gurdwar was simple and short. The main event was placed at the houseboat which wud reach the church on the other side. Samrats mom told him that it was foolish to keep the ceremony in the boat in such conditions. But Samrat tried explaining her by some way or the other since he didn't want to tell him that it was Gunjan's wish to get married over there. He somehow thought she wud not understand.
On such a short notice Gunjan had decided that she'd be wearing her Talent Parade dress in the wedding. That was the only nice and flowing dress she had. But later her mom Anaa gave Gunjan her own wedding dress which she wore when she got married to Gunjan's father Suresh. Gunjan was a lucky girl who got a chance to wear not just Samrat's mother's dress in the wedding ceremony in the morning but she was given her own mother's wedding dress as well.
In the evening, the boat started bursting with over hundreds of guests. Mostly all of them came to show them their support. Especially the ones who they knew ' Ms Tamanna, RV, Sheena, Ashwini, Neil, and even his grandmother, as well as their Talent Parade partners Sona and Sid, orphanage children and the whole orphanage staff.
Samrat, in his white suit and black shirt already stood there on the stage with the priest waiting for Gunjan's arrival along with her parents. Although Gunjan was week, she wanted to walk down the aisle with her parents. "It is my dream Samrat, remember. It is very important for me." She told her. "I definitely remember." He said. But all he was worried was that it was very difficult for her. It wasn't even a short distance. He just kept nodding bcos it was not easy to win her and her faith and he didn't want to hurt her saying no anymore.
And as the entrance music began, there was no eye that remained dry. Each and every eye started crying while looking at Gunjan's entry. Gunjan's entry was the most emotional and different entry of a bride in a while. As Gunjan entered, she was on the wheelchair with her parents and a nurse. The whole crowd faced behind to see her. Gunjan dressed in her mother's white flowing dress and veil covered on her head looked like an angel in the room. With all the strength that was left, she stood shakily as her parents supported her. Each of her hands intertwined inside theirs with flowers in her hands and they started walking the aisle with a smile on Gunjan's face and Samrat looking at her with all the emotions as she came.
The crowd was silent and wondered how she walked. But it looked that she walked most gracefully and with pride. She did was she was meant to. Half way she stopped as she got tired, to catch her breathe. Samrat felt like coming ahead. She looked at Samrat. He stopped. She looked at her mother, smiled... Then her father and smiled and their support was all she needed and once again closed her eyes, opened them and started walking, gathering all the strength she had. And this time they finally reached near Samrat. Finally the most important dream in Gunjan's life was fulfilled.
As she reached near Samrat, he reached for her hands and squeezed. The ceremony started and the priest read the passage from the Bible.
God is Love, and those who abide in love, abide in God, and God abides in them. This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Then the priest reads the LOVE quote from the Bible which Gunjan had shown to Samrat on the day of valentine and her birthday.
Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sin, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.
After which the marriage vows take place while they have their hands holding in each other:
I, Samrat Shergill, take you Gunjan Bhushan, to be my wedded wife; And I do promise and covenant; before God and these witnesses; to be your loving and faithful husband; in plenty and in want; in joy and in sorrow; in sickness and in health; as long as we both shall live.
I, Gunjan Bhushan, take you, Samrat Shergill, To be my wedded husband; and I do promise and covenant; before God and these witnesses; to be your loving and faithful wife; in plenty and in want; in joy and in sorrow; in sickness and in health; as long as we both shall live.
'.As long as we both shall live'. As they echoed these words they once again looked deeper in each others eyes to speak something which probably didn't had words for. After this they exchanged rings and smiled. Samrat leaned forward and softly kissed on her cheek with happiness of uniting forever, surrounded by pain. After their marriage, the boat reached on the church other side. Bcos without God's blessing their marriage was incomplete. A marriage that was praised by the people, a marriage that was praise by the angels, a marriage that was praised by the Lord bcos it was truly a union of two souls.
The love shared by Samrat and Gunjan was pure and perfect. They had a feeling of completeness. They were atlast, ONE.
*One Year Later*
It is said that Love, True Love creates miracle. But miracles happen for purpose. One such miracle happened when Samrat's prayers were answered. Day and night when he prayed to God to return him his life, God heard him.
It had been one year. Samrat and Gunjan, had a perfect life with true love and more emotions than lot of couple have in their lifetime.
But what was that purpose?
