@red- i wouldn't have placed my feelings in better words than this....

U know why i really started the topic?? so that i can hint at the creatives to read/see something worthwhile...i always keep hoping like scralett, that tomorrow will be another day....

Yeah...I guessed as much😆......but trust me Rinky, we are wasting our time.....these people dont understand straight talk, u think they have the intelligence & sensitivity to understand subtle hints? Did u see the song & dance laugh riot they made out of the Jane Austen Classic? That's the level, IQ & class of the people behind this show....
Anyways, forget them...have u read the sequel to Gone with the wind..."Scarlett" by Alexander Ripley? I went & bought it very enthusiastically but it just doesn't measure up to Gone with the wind...I have not read this one fully though...was quite disappointed with it....
U know, another instance when I fell in love with Scarlett was when she shot that Yankee intruder....to save herself...& also, the way she uncharacteristically shoulders the troubles of her family & loved ones...Scarlett's is easily one of the most beautifully developed female characters of all times...one which constantly challenges the prescribed & stereotyped role of a woman....I'm so sick and tired & bored to death of seeing weeping wailing women in designer outfits in Indian Soaps...I guess that's why I fell in love with Nupur's character...I actually saw shades of Scarlett in her...Like Scarlett was the most sought after woman in Georgia, so was Nupur, a diva of sorts in Morena...I remember her intro...she was standing in the midst of several guys trying to woo her with flowers & gifts...enjoying all the attention, pretty much the same way, how Scarlett has been depicted in the book....both are not conventional characters...both are strong, wilful, courageous & confident with a mind of their own.....ready to stand up & fight for those whom they love......Both would even resort to unscrupulous ways to get what they want....let's not talk 'bout the current "Nupur" now...it's heart breaking what the CV's have done to her.....even Mayank for that matter...the earlier Mayank had shades of Rhett Butler...not sardonic like Rhett but sarcastic with a no-nonsense attittude, who believed in calling a spade a spade....strong, determined & loaded with charm....the creatives had unknowingly created these two rare gems of characters with such huge potential...but now irrevocable damage has been done to them by the same people, for reasons known best to them.....Perhaps...cliches, predictability, lack of sense, logic & imagination are the ingredients required for a successful(?) Indian soap😕
Awesome post again, Rinky!

My favourite romantic character is Rhett Butler from the novel Gone with the Wind....
He is the third husband of the protagonist of the novel, Scarlet

the reason why i love this character so much is because he loved Scralet the way she was-head strong, selfish, extremely courageous...
he was far from perfect, not the conscientious social laws abiding man.. but a really sensible, loving, amorous person...

He understood scarlet more than she understood herself and foolish as she was she let the moon slip away from her hand, she never really understood his love till the end of the novel...

and then comes the famous line delivered by RB-'Frankly, my dear, i don't give a damn"..

Oh My Good God...LOL....exactly my sentiments....I loved Rhett, both the movie version and the book version :) Eerie....haha...but I also absolutely LOVE Chandler, from friends :) Even though he's not a complete romantic, you can clearly see the love he feels for Monica. :)

Yes i believe scarlett is oe of the most well developed female characters of all times...the reason why i love the field scene so much is because of the dialogue- "i will never be hungry again..".. I just remember that look in Vivian Leigh's eyes and I feel so proud of scralett...

I guess that's why I fell in love with Nupur's character...I actually saw shades of Scarlett in her...Like Scarlett was the most sought after woman in Georgia, so was Nupur, a diva of sorts in Morena...I remember her intro...she was standing in the midst of several guys trying to woo her with flowers & gifts...enjoying all the attention, pretty much the same way, how Scarlett has been depicted in the book....both are not conventional characters...both are strong, wilful, courageous & confident with a mind of their own.....ready to stand up & fight for those whom they love......Both would even resort to unscrupulous ways to get what they want....let's not talk 'bout the current "Nupur" now...it's heart breaking what the CV's have done to her.....even Mayank for that matter...the earlier Mayank had shades of Rhett Butler...not sardonic like Rhett but sarcastic with a no-nonsense attittude, who believed in calling a spade a spade....strong, determined & loaded with charm....

You know why people like us liked MN so much.. cause they represent the daily struggles of our lives and how people can win over them... be extraordinary even in ordainary circumstances...

as for the creatives and their creativity.... i shall not comment.... am just plain disgusted with them....yet i keep complaining.. keep suggesting things directly and indirectly... i don't like to give up....

hey did u read wuthering heights?? whats your thoughts about heathcliff??

@Rupa,rinki &archicheeps...
I totally agree with ur sentiments on gone with the wind..I not only loved the book, I actually loved the movie too...
& yeah..where on earth do I find a character like scarlett...ufff...Man, she is the most amazing female character of all time..!!! (I dint enjoy scarlett- the sequel thou..)
..
On a different Note rinky...I have more names to add...
These may be unusual..even blasphemous to some..
but for me Howard Roark & Dominique Francon of Fountainhead are right up there...
I 'm yet to see a hero like Roark in reel or real...(to me he was more than John Galt of atlas shrugged). I cant begin to explain the characters..the book has to be read to be believed..(I have noticed..people either love or hate- both extremes..none the moderates)

I think Francisco d'Anconia of Atlas Shrugged was a great lover cum idealist even thought he showed a different face to the world. He doesnt get the girl he loves..yet he remained a gr8 lover n idealist...!

I have many more..can I add😉

I love reading novels (as strange as that may sound to people who are my really close friends on I-F LOL) and my FAVOURITE fictional/romantic character has to be Henry DeTamble from 'The Time Traveler's Wife' and Landon Carter from 'A walk to remember'

Henry is one of the SWEETEST and most real characters that I've ever read about. His love for Clare is SO intense and passionate.

And then there's Landon....*drools* I fell in LOVE with him. He is the SWEETEST lover boy ever! Everything he did for Jamie...even though she was sick, she was dying, he asked if she would marry him. *cries*

Hey mimi..we had this discussion on ur ff thread as well....
I love A walk to remember.. (both the book & the movie) but Landon's character evolves thru the book..
But there is this another book by the same author (nicholas sparks)..Message in a bottle..
Here the heroine Theresa finds a bottle with a message in it written by a widower to his wife and she makes it her goal to go in search of these bottle and reads the beautiful letters that he has penned to his wife catherine...she later finds him and that his wife had died 3 years earlier but he still mourns her.. Its a touching tale and the way Garette , the hero conveys his feelings to his wife thru those letters have to be read to be believed...

Very very good topic Rinky!
I'm sad that I found it so late! Anyway dher aaye darust aaye no?
😆
Okay so some of my fav. fictional characters-
AB from Suhaag-he was a guy who grew up in the wrong enviornment, but still retained his innocence, sensibility, and humor. The little things he does and says in the film is admirable and adorable. I've loved him. He reflected how any normal guy can be a "hero" in their own way.
Sandra Bullock's character in the Lake House-she was a doctor in a big city, but she yearned for peace, solitude, and privacy. She meets a guy from the past and the way she communicates with him and falls in love with him is just something that I really liked!
I have a few more...as you can tell I don't really like reading. I'll add more later.
btw I've read Gone with the Wind a long time ago and after reading one of your fav. characters I realized I've forgotten most of the characters. I may just go back and read the book again.

My favs are usually not limited to just one...But there are a few fav characters..
First wud be Mr Darcy & Elizabeth from Pride & Prejuduce (the actual Jane austen novel, not the filmy interpretation by Gurinder Chhada..definitely not the Varun n Esha of MJHT 🤢 )
Mr Darcy came across as an arrogant wealthy & extremely rude man and Elizabeth being smart lively and headstrong, dint care 2 bit about him..Then Elizabeth realises that Mr Darcy is actually a very caring man, completely misunderstood and madly in love with her... 😊 Hey Divya! 🤗 I concur...Bride & Prejudice was an awful protrayal of the actual book!

In the movies, there is this character than Keanu Reeves plays in A walk in the clouds, (which also has been trashily remade as Dhai akshar prem ke)..I have seen the movie only once when I was very young, but the character struck me as an ideal prince charming. Its been a long time but the impression created has stayed on I haven't seen that fim, but I will tonight! I have been an ardent fan of Abhi though, because I always have felt he has had a spark from the beginning, thus I didn't dislike Dhai akshar prem ke...plus I always knew Abhi-ash would end up together...sorry for digressing there. 😆

Third, is Ajay Devgan as Vanraj in Hum dil de chuke sanam...The way I disliked him when he entered cos Aish & Salman, and since I was rooting for them, I cudnt take to him easily. The way the character was developed, however was wonderful..The perfect Gentleman who falls in love with his wife. He is hurt to know his wife loves someone else, but stands for what is right and tries to reunite her with her lover, the understanding, compassionate, intense man. Like they say good things happen to good people so his wife ends up falling in love with them...By the end of the movie I was in love with Vanraj i'm in absolute agreement! Vanraj was such a great, yet complex character. One could think he was idealistic...but he wasn't. He displayed a variety of emotions, but at the end made the best decision for him and his wife.

..sorry I wrote too much..but i loved the topic..
