NOTE-2: This is going to be a LOOOOONG post - please forgive the length
Now coming to the topic, I confess I am a love ignorant in the sense that I have never been in love myself. Probably because I have never been on Valentine Ac-Meet trips with a hot guy where we end up getting locked in some stranger's house on valentine's day and my wet hair brushes across his face coupled with his wild imaginations about us result in him falling in love with me. š³ š³ š³ Also I never took part in PnP DTPH crossed play adaptations or inspirations with the same guy by stalking him n forcing him to play my hero , running around trees like tom N Jerry thrusting roses on him on Rose Day, assuming that he is on drugs n confronting him (despite knowing him inside out) just to be left hurt by him so that he can apologise to me in the sweetest manner possible n come to my place to rehearse on our terrace only to give me his shirt when my dress gets torn leaving me all awestruck , besotted , smitten etc mouthing cheesiest dialogues like "dil main ghanti bhaji". However, from whatever few books I have read on love and learnt about it seeing my friends who have fallen in and are still in love, I gather that love does not happen instantly or abruptly. I would like to believe that love happens over a period of time after people begin to bond, connect , know each other better and reach a certain level of understanding with mutual respect between them (I assure you that all the love stories I know of, have begun during college days only). I understand this is an entertainment show so one should not expect too much of reality in it which is why I enjoyed MN's eye locks, M holding N whenever she tripped , their Salsa rehearsals, TP Salsa, beach scenes, barn scenes etc coz these are things that one cannot expect to see in reality however I also appreciated the fact that all these scenes were shown with a realistic touch to them neatly embedded into a story during the initial episodes. Hence I fell in love with Mayank and Nupur š š š and assumed that this unique flavor that made Mayank Nupur , THE MN would be maintained throughout the show and we would get to see a beautiful (if not beautiful, at least a sensible) love story that is a perfect amalgamation of fact and fiction which didn't happen at all, much to my dismay
I also LOVED the character sketch of both the characters, especially Mayank!
Mayank's character sketch was amazing- cool nerd, mamma's good boy who has A LOT OF RESPECT FOR WOMEN just made me fall in love with him . I liked him because he never indulged in idle gossip, I liked him because he was never a chauvinist , I liked him because he cared enough to cheer up his friend, I liked him because he bothered to make a stranger feel comfortable on realizing that she is new to the college, I liked his witticisms and practical outlook at everything, I liked him because he was a balanced guy , I LOVED his intensity, I LOVED the affection he showered on Nupur during the barn episode, I liked the way he valued his friendship with Nupur and respected her when they were friends, his charm, his sauve style....there were so many things about Mayank that I just adored- Mayank was PERFECT not because he did not have any flaws but because his flaws were as endearing as his good traits....... After seeing the barn scene, I thought "if this is how he behaves with her without even being in love , he will do something unusual which will make me love him even more". I know people change in love and I expected that Mayank would change for the better like say tone down a bit on his high standards, learn to open up a bit more ,allow himself to be a little easy on himself n enjoy life like Nupur does - something on those lines as a result of being in LOVE...... instead I see him turning into an INSOLENT guy and an MCP after falling in love, treating the girl he loves with sheer disregard like she is some trophy ( he looks at his books n nuts with more affection than the way he looks at Nupur) or say awful things like "nishaana sadhenge" to his new found chaddi buddies bragging about her feelings for him which is completely unforgivable for anyone in general and Mayank in particular given his original character sketch. Also I am finding it amusing that dangling from autos like a pappu, tilting head while 'teasing' the girl one loves, smirking like a jerk, gossiping with chaddi buddies degrading the girl one loves, giving loveology lectures, singing in jaundice lights etc is all justified in the name of love realization or celebration, though that is totally out of character. I have neither seen (in reality or in fiction) nor read people turning into their not so pleasant , never known before alter egos because of love. š š š
About the handling of the whole track of MN falling in love- THIS post by one of my friends here, Sanu sums it up (what she has pointed out are my exact feelings):
"Sigh my BIGGEST problem with the whole MayUr track has been the completely strange manner in which both Mayank and Nupur fell in love. I don't understand how watching a girl in your shirt and having her flip her hair in your face 575769696 times makes you fall in "LOVE" with her. It doesn't even seem like love, it just feels like Mayank is infatuated with Nupur like a child is smitten by balloons and candy...Mayanks realization overall can be just classified as BIZARRE. Fine took that with a pinch of salt ...but then with Nupur the same thing happend, it just took one shirt for this girl to get all gooey about him. I absolutely agree for a fact that what Mayank did on the terrace was a really really nice gesture and my full respect to him for it BUT the sheer way in which Nupur went all gaga over him was sooooo RANDOM. If u look at the time frame since that terrace scene its been about 2 to 3 days and WTH Nupur is already confessing her love for him (even though it is in the form of Esha)....i just cannot comprehend that. At one point I was thinking why the hell are they rushing Mayurs track but then later I realized my problem was not the pace of their story it was what was being shown; atleast the manner in which they fell for each other could have been justified better, I mean c'mon ONE shirt, ONE night, ONE moment and that's it..BANG You're in LOVE! Though I know the damage is done I hope the creatives work on the relationship between Mayank and Nupur; MN should not only love but learn to respect and understand each other (although I feel Mayank doesn't deserve any respect for his current behaviour). Although I know this is JUST a TV show and you cannot be looking for logic here and there and everywhere but atleast being the leads they should be given a more convincing and coherent storyline. Looking at the current sscoops much cannot be said about the future but i just hope creatives realise that somewhere along the line they have gone very wrong with the track and characters of Mayank and Nupur and they need to fix it up asap....if fixing it is possible that is!"
@brown: I particularly agree with that part - either I read too much into the earlier characters of MN or something is going terribly wrong now, for I cannot FEEL MN magic anymore despite the so called PASSIONATE scenes between them, I guess that may be because I don't like to see MN passion just for the heck of it - I want to see their passion emanating out of TRUE LOVE, I want to see MN building a strong bond and growing as lovers before they reach that passion stage....I am not a sucker for some randomly sewn in passionate scene just to satisfy fans. I will not deny, however, that I will watch it for Arjun n Rati's performance but story wise I will not welcome it if it does not make sense.....
P.S: Apologies for the length again! About why did I bother to write such a long post, opening a topic for it - because I have been posting, reading n agreeing with all these things in parts, in different threads. I just wanted to gather them and lay them out so that I can just get it all out of my system
