LEGISLATORS Vs EXECUTIVES

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has recently sent Mr Nand lal IAS ( Election Commissioner ) to jail for a perceived Contempt. Mr Nand lal has been a strict, outstanding, clean and uninfluenceable beaurocrat with about 40 years' glorious tenure in the IAS behind him.

The matter is sub judice , but we should be able to discuss if it was OK for the Assembly to send him to jail without issuing a Show cause Notice or hearing his defence. They have further ruled that in case he represents before the High Court or the Supreme Court & if a Notice is issued to them , THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT IT.
