DOTW-Is Modernization 'Westernization'?

Hi ev1,

I m here wid a new Discussion...

Tell me guyz wht do u think...Is Modernization "Westernization"?

As far as I know Modernization means, being an innovative, doing task effectively and efficiently.
Westernization is the western Culture which is totally based on Freedom, Freedon of every thing!

I found both meanings totally different, there is not even point percent similarity between them....

But to be a modern is it necessary that:-
1) We must talk in English?
2) We should not wear Shalwar-Kameez or Kurta-Pajama?
3)Girls not xposing too much? & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; 4) Disrespect elders?
5) Giving less importance to Religion?
6) Stop doing arrange marriages?
7) Sending GrandFather/Mother and Father Mother to Old-houses?
8) Becoming Self-Centered?
9) Run after money
10) and other so many things...

I request all the members to please share your thoughts about it!😊

hmm in my opinion Modernization is not the same as Westernization....the west is modern so ppl think those 2 words are the same...but they're not...

Westernization includes modernizing and upgrading but it also includes differenet values and morals...so it's really a confusion of terms that sets most ppl bk.

modernazation and westernazation are not the same but in india those two things are seen as related or the same depending on who you talk to.

theres is however a strong relationship to between those 2 things

Thnx jenny...Yh I agree..but we ppl hav our own moral values n traditions which are totally different from the western culture...but we are adopt it n say that we are modern..is it really modernism...I mean we can be up to date...but the points I wrote dun u think we do this n feel we are very modern??😛

I think, and please correct me if i am wrong, to be successful on the global scene, modernization is a must ... westernization on the other hand is a choice! right?


Another point from my side:
Modernization says adopt good things from the West and Westernization is adopt everything from west.... 😆

totally agree with you Komalash!

They not actually because people like in uk but still adopt asian traits to like you said asian suits , arranged marriages etc.

I think moderisation is seperate its more changing the lifestyle like things they have in country , its inportant for growing economy like india has people from abroad often come you know so its like having best of two cultures eaast and west.
