"The greatest gift I ever had came from God; I call him Dad!"
-Anonymous

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers, fatherhood, paternal bonds, and fathers influence in society. It is usually on the third Sunday of June in many countries; however, the date varies according to the country.

"Establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations"

- Calvin Coolidge

The modern celebration of Fatherhood originates in United States of America in the early 20th century to complement Mother's Day. The first Father's Day celebration was held at the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) in 1910, by Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, William Jackson Smart, was a single parent and raised six children single-handed.

In 1913, a bill was introduced in the congress for the national recognition of the holiday. After four decades of struggle, President Lyondon Jhonson issued a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day in 1966. Six years later,in 1972, President Richard Nixon declared this as a national holiday. At the World Fair (1974) in Spokane, Sonora Smart Dodd was honored for her contribution.

Respect thy father every single day of your life...

Just the way mothers play an important role in a child's upbringing, a father plays a critical role as well. It is said that a child needs it's mother the most, but it needs a father too. A father does not only support his child financially, but also emotionally as well. They make the children realize that their importance in one's life which results in the development of high self-esteem and confidence.

Most children look up to their father as their role model. A father enhances their child's intellectual development. Most of the time, it's the father who is the strict one among the parents, and responsible for disciplining their child. Young minds of children tend to be curious, with thousands of questions bubbling in their mind. Fathers tend to be one who solves the mysteries of life and gives advice about several things.

Lastly, a father teaches their child about survival, and many other life lessons.

He is a mentor.

my single father and I...

Being a single parent isn't easy but it being a single-father is even more difficult.

There are many hardships which single-fathers have to face, especially if their child is a toddler. During this phase, a child needs their mother the most to pamper and nurture them.

Another challenge is related to financial matters. Single-fathers, or mothers, have to work, whilst giving sufficient time to their offspring. Facing this crisis would be easy without the support of close relatives, friends and/or parents. Also, the elder family members can guide and help the single parent.

Any Man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad. Fathers are their daughter's first love, and son's idols. They guide us through the paths which are filled with challenges. The ones we respect and aspire to be; however, their pain and love is unnoticed most of the times. While our mothers shower us with affection, and care in times of need, we tend to ignore our dad's pain. Our fathers hold us when we cry, scold us when we make mistakes, shine with pride when we succeed, but most of all, they have faith in us even if we lose faith in ourselves.

A ' thank you' would have no meaning if we say it in front of our Dads.

This is a small tribute from the lovely members from the CrazyCreatives reminiscing their fondest memories on this special occasion.

My daddy, a very simple person, who believes in simplicity has always inspired me for hard work. He is not just my father but my best friend too. I never hesitate to share anything with him. Being the second and the younger kid, I have always been pampered so much.

I was on cloud nine when my father gifted me a watch, specially delivered from Madras, when I was just eight. Unfortunately, I lost the watch when I wore it to my school. While coming back to home, my older brother asked me to take out water bottle from my bag, and when I was taking out water bottle, the watch fell down somewhere. When I reached home and was about to remove the watch, it was not there on my wrist. I cried a lot. I thought that my dad would scold me, But my dad is the best and he said not to cry and promised to bring another one.

So yeah, I love my father. There are many incidents I can share but you won't be that interested in that. Dada, I love you the most.

Well, I actually don't remember any moment with him since he happen to leave the world when I was 2 years old. But what I have heard from my grandmother and mother, my parents used to play a game with me asking whose baby am I and whether I am my daddy's princess or my mommy's one. I used to pout and then gradually start crying unable to decide who to choose. So my grandmother used to pick me up and take me with her.

I would like to mention a very touching moment with my father-in-law on this special occasion. I couldn't meet him one morning due to some household work. In the evening when I went to meet him and ask about his day, he said that it wasn't great since he didn't see me in the morning. I am blessed to have such a father in law in my life*touchwood*who treats me like his own daughter.

Well, I have many memories with my father but I will share the ones I love the most.

When I was a kid my father used to come home from work and take me for a ride on his bicycle. Then, he would take me to the bridge from where we could see trains pass by. I still remember how happy that would make me. Then, at times, he would take to railway station and buy me balloons or yoyos.

It was a rule that if he was ever going out of town, then has to get me some toys.

I have grown up with my neighbors since my parents are working, so when he worked late, he would come to pick me up (though our house was only 5 blocks away). He would hang me on his shoulders and then he would carry me to home.

There are basically many memories like these. But what I can say about my father is he might get irritated or upset with my action but he will never be angry or shout at me for my mistakes. Instead, he would try to correct me, and guide me.

I am very much glad to have a father like him. Love you papa.

Happy Fathers Day!!!
I know I am not the best daughter around, but my father has never judged me for that. He spoils me like a princess, and scolds me when I do something wrong. He is imperfect (so am I), but I wouldn't have him any other way.!
