Hello all I have something to get off my chest and this forum is the only place I could think of to vent. Your all desi so you'll get where I'm coming from. I used to come on this forum all the time but I don't watch much indian tv anymore.
I'm 28 years old and born and raised in canada to indian parents. I have a great relationship with my parents and have always tried to make them proud I've always tried to me a good indian son, be good be dutiful, honorable, I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, stay out late or sleep around (don't wanna be irresponsible and get a disease or something).
Yes I am Canadian and I'm a Punjabi Sikh to these are NOT contradictory identities for me, I genuinely feel our culture is important does a lot of things, our families our ideas of honor.
But lately I've realized that my fellow young Indians really don't care about the things I care about, it seems like there are more young people rebelling and being wild childs then have happy, healthy relationships with there parents and not identity issues.
And this type of thing is put on such a pedestal like its an achievement, I think being a good son, not a white wannabe is much harder.
Okay I hope this post makes sense and isn't just a insane rambling.
