Remembering the Martyrs&Heroes of 26/11

November 26, 6 years ago today was a different day for Mumbai it was a day when multiple locations in Mumbai were attacked. These attacks brought Mumbai and India together once more. Mumbaikars have a jazba to help one another and stand up for each other in the hour of need, and these attacks were no different! The attacks ended on the 29th of November, let us remember the martyrs and honour the heroes of those attacks!

I will not name the names of the terrorists, the monsters that carried out these attacks, because they do not deserve to be remembered, the ones who deserve remembrance are the heroes and martyrs of these attacks, the men and women who didnt think twice and went in to help in the face of death! Though I could not list all the heroes and martyrs of those attacks, here is a list and link of some the names, the link has stories of these men and women, who despite being ordinary before these attacks become extraordinary thereafter!

One last request, terrorism is spread by fear, if you dont talk about it, if you dont acknowledge them, they are powerless, they thrive on fear and recognition, but if we dont talk of them or even remember their names, they are not living, they are dead!

I bow to those martyrs and heroes who didnt think once of their families and thought of others and their families!

please check out the many stories of the heroes and marytrs of that attack:

Heroes:
- Karambir Singh Kang, the Taj Mumbai's general manager,- who didnt leave the Taj till it was all over despite the fact that his wife and kid had been killed!

- The Taj employees who worked around the clock during these attacks! They even helped in the evacuation of the building!

- Maruti Phad was fired upon and survived.

- British businessman Deepak Kuntawala- who saved 150 lives with his planning - http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/dec/04mumterror-taj-the-nri-who-saved-150-lives.htm

-Mumbai's firemen battled the fires without bullet proof vests

There are countless others who did their duty to their people and nation without even being in uniform or in the armed forces! the link above has names and stories of the heroes!

Mesmerizing post Rati...!!!!
6 years back, this day had been the toughest and scariest day in the lives of the Mumbaikars...!!!
The city was doomed n lived in darkness for 62 hours...
I live in Mumbai n I still remember how good day it was in the morning...it was a nice day at school n in classes...n suddenly everything changed after 7.00 pm...!!!!
I still shudder thinking about the events that took place in CST as it is a place I go almost daily...!!!!
A Humble and Honourable Salute to all the Martyrs who gave up their lives for Mumbai n in the fight against terrorism...!!!!
Mumbai has always risen above all the crisis that was thrown at her face...!!!! Though partial justice has been done, a full justice is a MUST...!!!

Thank you for the superb post Rati. I was only 11 when this happened but I still remember how horrific it was. We all watched it on TV and were terrified. Can't imagine how mumbaikars must have felt. We have the bravest people in our country. Salute to all of them. They did not die that day, they were immortalized. Words cannot explain the gratitude we feel for these people. I can only say that I'm proud to be a part of the country where such people had lived. Once again a salute to them and all the Mumbaikars

Salute to all those martyrs who sacrificed their life for us and those who became victims and lost their lives.

I live in Mumbai and I still remember that horrifying day when my neighbor knocked my door at 10:00 p.m. saying that shooting is taking place at CST and I did not get her and when I switched on the TV, I could not believe this happening in real time.

My friend was working in TAJ those days and his shift was at 8:00 p.m. but he was informed not to come. He was fortunate enough but he lost his colleagues who were working at TAJ. Even Ashish Chowdhry lost his sister and brother in law in this terrorist attack.

I just hope and pray that such incidents do not repeat and people do not kill each other in the name of religion/cast/culture.
