Marathas literally made Brits bloody to their aim to conquer India and Bengali's crippled them to the point that they decided that better leave India alone. I remember one incident where the Bengal Famine of 1943 was planned and approved by Winston Churchill to exterminate the Bengali race completely as he understood it is impossible to subdue the Bengalis and the situation in Bengal is going out of hand.

True

Marathas caused so much damage that Britishers had to construct the Maratha ditch

The Borgi clan I think it was

1943 Bengal Famine is also mentioned Byomkesh

Winston had become extremely desperate

But not just Netaji

Even Khudiram, Bhagat Singh , Suraj Sen and many others played very important role in making India free

But honestly I don’t like all the credit to be given to Gandhi and being kept at such a high pedestal all over the world

Nehru and Gandhi were opportunistic foxes who made their fame on the sacrifices of other freedom fighters. Subhas Bose was so hurt when he resigned from Congress. He was shocked how a party created for freedom of India is backstabbing each other for power. Sardarbhai Patel also he always supported Bose over Nehru as he wanted Bose be the leader instead Nehru. Bengali race overcame two genocides and prevailed and developed . The famine of 1943 and the war of 1971 two attempts of genocide in 28 years to exterminate the Bengali race and we still prevailed. The Bengalis made the Brits bow. The revenge which Brits took by dividing the country based on religion. I really feel sad when I see youngsters these days consider speaking English instead of speaking Bengali as they find it more classy. Did they know their ancestors fought bloody genocides for Bengali language to survive.

Not actually Nehru and his family

There is a book called Parallel lives of Nehru and Bose

Try reading that

It would change the perspective that Gandhi thrived because of Nehru and family

1971 I don’t know if it can be termed genocide, because it was not to wipe entire Bengali clan

It was a fight for language

Bengali if spoken properly is a language so polite and respectful that I can just gush about it

Just like Urdu

But the point is people don’t know the language at that depth

Even I didn’t initially

But this lockdown I started watching movies and reading novel and it just blew my mind

I have grown to respect the language more than I did 2 years back

The day youngsters realize this, they will come back to their roots
