His Family
"Pallavi aaj mujhe bahut zaroori Sunny se milna hai, Agar zyaada urgent nahin hai to hum kal chalen doctor ke paas" Raghav overheard Keerti mumbling to Pallavi as the former walked out of the house hurriedly.
There was a little disappointment in his eyes looking at his sister's behavior.
"Ye ladki pyaar mein pagal hue ja raha hai" he muttered bit angrily. "Anyways doctor kyun Saree ka dukaan, Tumhara tabiyat to theek hai na" he quickly checked her forehead with the back of his hand making her sigh a little.
"Main bilkul theek hoon Raghav" she smiled at her husband's earnest concern.
"Theek hai to phir doctor ke paas kya dandiya khelne ja raha hai?"
Pallavi made a face. why was he like this!
"Bakwas karna hobby hai na tumhari, jewelry designing ke saath saath iska bhi business karlo, achi kamaai hogi" she quipped.
"haha very funny Saree Ka Dukaan, Main bakwas karne ka business karke tumhara dhandha nahin chaupat karega" he grinned as she rolled her eyes.
"Chalo ab theek se batao doctor ke paas kyun jana hai tumhein. Main chalega tumhare saath"
Her face flushed a little hearing about his proposal to tag along.
"Tum...umm Uski koi zaroorat nahin hai Raghav. Main manage kar lungi. Tumhari showroom mein meeting hai na aaj, tum late ho jayoge" she tried to distract him.
"Saree ka dukaan agar main late ho jayega to wo log mera wait karlega, Main Raghav Rao hai, mera wait karna bhi log apna luck mante hain"
"Wah attitude to dekho jannab ka" she pursed her lips.
"Chalo batao kahan jana hai" he asked her rightfully.
"Raghav maine kaha na main chali jaungi"
"Tum batata hai ya nahin"
"Nahin"
"Theek hai main phir aaj office hi nahin jayega, jaane do un sellers ko, Hone do mera 10 crore ke order ka nuksaan" he loosened his tie and crashed on the couch leaving Pallavi dumbstruck.
"Raghav ye kya zidd hai"
"Pehle tum mujhe batao ke kya hua hua hai"
She knew he was not going to budge this time. And off late it was only related to her happiness or wishes or well being that he would be so stubborn. The thought made her heart pound a little.
"Tum bhi na impossible ho ekdum"
"Koi shaq! Ab tum mujhe batayega ya nahin" his voice turned a little stern this time making Pallavi bite on her lower lip like a kid.
"Meri Gynacologist ke saath appointment hai . Isliye hospital ja rahi hoon" Pallavi confessed finally giving up.
"Oh!"
"Exactly isliye nahin bata rahi thi tumhein"
"Par ismein na batane wala kya hai Pallavi. Mera bhi ek behen hai, mujhe in sab problems ke bare mein idea hai. Tumhein mujhse chupane ki koi zaroorat nahin hai.
Aur main husband hai tumhara to mujhse kya chupana. I am coming with you, aur ismein mujhe koi arguments nahin chahiye " he held her hand to the car.
"But Raghav suno to.." she kept on saying behind him but he gave a deaf ear to all her pleadings.
As he drove, Pallavi couldn't take her eyes off her ever amusing husband. When she had met him little had she thought what an enigma he was going to be.
At the clinic, Raghav and Pallavi waited for the doctor to arrive. As she walked in, Pallavi looked at Raghav for a second checking if he was uncomfortable but he held into his chair ever so firmly much keen to know about Pallavi's health.
"So Mrs. Rao please tell me how are you feeling?"
"Doctor actually"...Pallavi hesitated a bit, and looked at Raghav again, who blinked at her assuredly. She gave him one of her warmest smiles.
"Doctor actually I missed my period this month and from past few days I feel very bloated and nauseous" as Pallavi briefed about her problem, Raghav heard intently.
"Ok any mood swings"
"YES" Raghav cut immediately and Pallavi gave him a deathly stare.
"I mean yes I think aisa ho sakta hai" he stammered cursing his tongue.
The doctor smiled. "These newly married couples are so cute" she though to herself.
"Ok so Pallavi have you taken a pregnancy test"
As soon as the doctor uttered those words, Raghav and Pallavi looked at each other shocked, their cheeks a color of deep red, and then looked at the ground and then away from each other.
"Pallavi are you still there with me" the doctor asked breaking her out of her trance.
"Yes...Yes doctor"
"So have you taken your pregnancy test"
"No doctor"
"Okay in that case that's definitely our first step." The lady doc took out a pregnancy test kit and handed it over to Pallavi.
"Please use the washroom on the first floor" she directed.
Raghav and Pallavi stared at each other intently as the doctor's words had dawned as a hard realization upon them. Though they did not marry in normal circumstances but the world was always going to take them as a normal couple. And they needed to think about where this relationship was going. They needed to reflect on their feelings for each other.
"Doctor that's not possible" Raghav spoke after quite a thought.
But Pallavi was little disappointed with his choice of words. More about the truth in them.
"Doctor he means we are not planning a family yet" she spoke after a pause.
Her words, it hit him like a storm , the storm that brings as much calm as chaos. Even if not now, Pallavi did expect something much deeper from their relationship than what it was.She had thought of a future with him. And one day they were going to have a family of their own. His eyes were almost brimming with tears just by the thought of it.
The doctor smiled at Pallavi's words.
"I understand Pallavi, but look even the best of contraceptions can be faulty. So I cannot give you any medicine to make your menses start again without being sure you aren't pregnant. You'll have to take the test"
Without saying anything, Pallavi nodded and took the kit from the doctor.
"Main abhi ati hoon" she told Raghav who nodded without saying anything.
After a few minutes as Pallavi stepped out of the loo, she saw Raghav waiting for her outside.
"Tum theek ho na Pallavi" there was a palpable anxiousness in his voice.
She smiled a little.
"Tum shaayad duniya ke pehle ladke ho Raghav jisko apni biwi ke pregnancy test result ki nahin, uski padi hai" she joked absent mindedly.
"Han padi hai tumhein koi problem hai !" he exhaled looking straight in her eyes. She couldn't breathe for a second.
"Iss relationship mein hum equal partners hain Pallavi aur koi bhi haalaat ho, tum usmein mujhe hameshan apne saath paaogi." She could only inhale his words. There was nothing better she could say to reciprocate. So she held his hand and gave it a soft press.
"It's negative" she informed him.
He nodded knowingly but his eyes showed he was a little sad leaving her surprised. In a happy way.
Pallavi told the pregnancy test result to doctor who prescribed a few hormone shots for her.
She cutely tucked onto Raghav's bicep as the nurse jabbed her. He kept on soothing her hair as she hid her face in his shoulder. When they reached home he pampered her the whole day whether it was giving her company in eating a whole tub of ice cream or watching a super emotional bollywood flick with her. He wasnt sure when they would be ready to start a family of their own but his family was complete just with her by his side.
