No it is absolutely correct it is not wrong. Onam is also on 14.
There are different regional version for hindu new year though. For Marathi, Kanadica and Telgu new year starts at Gudi Paadva/ Ugadi. Which comes 15 days after holi. I think for Tamil/ Keralite it’s new year on sankranti not sure though. Anvesha can confirm. For Bengali new year starts on Saraswati puja guess that would be Vasant Panchami.
