well I am a sikh, and no religiously we dont wear sindoor or mangal sutra so a lot women do it just out of their choice, and plus I have seen in many Hindi movies or soaps that the story writers or directors dun put much effort in learning about little things such as if their character is a sikh is it a part of their religion to be wearing sindoor or mangalsotar?, which confuses their viwers. I think they need to put more effort into what they are producing and not just assume tstuff about other religions because that confuses people.

Ok so i asked my mom and she said sikh women can wear sinndoor as it is part of our CULTURE, and religion is a different thing, it doesnt say in the Guru Granth Sahib that wearing sinndoor isnt allowed. My mom doesnt wear any but she did for a while after she got married. As for the mangalsutra, im not sure...

Well, I'm sikh myself!!!
And if i'm not wrong, we can wear sindoor.
However, alot of women dont wear sindoor,
its not a restricition so i'm guessing we have a choice of wearing sindoor. But we dont wear manglesutra (sorry if i spelt it wrong).

Agreed!!
I think its important for that director to get their facts straight.
When you're going to show a character that is sikh, its important that the character fulfill's the requirements. But not by adding un-neccessary things that dont go with the character. For example munglestura....Sikh women dont wear munglestura unless shes married to a hindu.

I so agree about most dramas never getting sikhism right.
ahem, ekta kapoor.
in one show itll be like the family's sikh, and then the next thing you see is they are praying to ganesh ji, (there's nothing wrong w/ that) EXCEPT that sikhism is not about praying to statues etc.
so if i wasnt sikh, id be pretty confused
the last time i checked, geet's mom doesnt wear one :S
so maybe its because Geet's motherinlaw wears it, geet feels she needs too, or the creative team decided tehy just needed to place it on her head 8-)

yeah sikhs are not supposed to be wearing any sindoors or bindis religiously.... it is a fashion statement... mostly jatt women (even newly married) dont wear it.... but personally i have seen many saini, majhabi or other castes girls do wear it.......(by the way we are not supposed to have caste system in sikhism..... but society has created it according to the work people did historically.....tailors are sheemba, weavers are julahe, labour class is kammi/majhabi.... Farmers, landlords are JATT etc..... but religiously we are supposed to be just sikhs..... )
AND please no bashing on me in regards to mentioning these casts..... I have explained that we are supposed to be just sikhs.... its the society that has created teh castes due to the work people have done traditionally........ thats it......)
