Todays episode for me seemed very dragged.
First of all they want us to believe the fridges came from the contestants houses? How’s the family back home going to manage without a fridge for a couple of days?
My guess is they just sent some photos over and the PH just put them on the fridges. Also, not all of us have picture magnets in our fridge, strangely all of them did. I’m sure they rented/bought those fridges.
Anyway coming to the cooking:
Suvarna - I liked that she’s true to what she does. She doesn’t unnecessarily complicate her dishes. What she made was her real ghar ka khaana, masterchef style. Fish is a Konkani staple and rasa coated fish is delicious! She played to her strengths.
Deepa - I was surprised when she decided to cook haleem. It takes long to cook. She just added the drumstick flower sabji (a Sindhi delicacy, cooked in winters) which in my opinion didn’t match with haleem. I’d have liked her to cook something traditional, something that would feel like a Sindhi home. Didn’t she say she wanted to promote Sindhi cuisine? Today was a great opportunity. Also plating haleem is tough. I really can’t think of a way to make haleem look interesting.
Priyanka - while I admire her for cooking Chef Vikas’ dish and serving it to him, but how does it reflect her or her home food? For her it was just an opportunity to showcase her cooking skills. I wish she did that (that’s what this show is about) but showed us through her food a little bit more about her family or where she comes from. Her plate though was beautiful.
Nayanjyoti - He always comes up with winners. His plates just look so clean and appetizing. I loved the dumplings/momos with the broth - the colour was lovely. Also the tamarind chicken looked tempting. It did feel very North eastern, my Assamese colleague would bring these spicy dips with almost everything, his chilli dip reminded me of her. Most importantly, I like his humility, there’s something very endearing about him.
Kamaldeep - Honestly, her dish didn’t sound appetizing in the least to me. It looked like a green peas and paneer pancake with blueberry stuffing. I liked her playing with the stewed apples and the crisp element, the lovely play with colours. But it’s not a dish I’d be keen on trying. According to the judges it tasted excellent though.
Aruna - it was a stewed/grilled pineapple with a spiced coconut milk frozen yoghurt topped with pineapple drizzle and a moong dosa crisp. The judges went ga ga over it. We’ve already seen spiced ice creams on the show, and even otherwise. I agree she thought differently and kudos to her for that. But it wasn’t an invention we’ve never seen before.
Deepa’s dish clearly was the weakest looking dish today. Apparently it was also the weakest tasting dish and she’s eliminated from the race to get the immunity pin.
I really liked Shanta in the beginning, but in between she was giving off some not so positive vibes, but today her reaction to the judges comments on Suvarnas dish and her genuinely being happy for Nayanjyoti won me over.
This whole week has been about the immunity pin and honestly, I’m bored now. I’m glad someone will win it tomorrow and next week we’ll be back to normalcy. I hope as the contestants reduce they won’t drag each task. I’d rather they have more tasks.
