hi. I am a silent reader - I watch this show sometimes. I do agree with you. I find some of the posts and remarks on this forum quite shocking !
But meting out harsh moral judgments especially to a woman (by women) is not so surprising.
No one believes that Uttara is innocent or that she hasn't commited a major felony - completely disregarding her sisters feelings. But that is why I like this show. Having a lapse of judgement is what makes Uttara utterly human. ( but not evil - or any of the other pejoratives being thrown around.).
These woman characters are not some devis who don't make mistakes. Uttara's character is complex - from the very beginning she was shown having a crush on her BIL , subtly exhibiting jealousy towards her sister and at the same time navigating through her own marital problems. At a time of her life when she is weak - she gave in to her secret desire. Its sad that in hindu society a widowed woman has no right to re-live her life and I enjoyed watching how the colorless Uttara felt color reentering with Brahma's 'love'
Why do Indian audience only like their characters to be oscillating between two extremes - extraordinary goodness or outright evil ? Why not enjoy the spectrum of human strengths and flaws in the shows characters as well .?
Few women would sleep with their BIL and if they do their acts should not be condoned - but seriously this is a show. I look forward to watching the array of emotions - oscillating between guilt and assertion of her love - when reality slowly sinks into her.
What I like in this show is that the woman are not shown as little innocents being hounded by the big bad wolf - as in real life - they are willing participants and somewhat responsible for their own ruin.
Some forum members seem to be ready to 'burn the witch !!'. No wonder Indian shows are so unoriginal and most characters lacking in dimension - the audience appears really immature and only wants to met out moral exhortations - hence there is no focus on interesting gripping storylines.
