Her brother-in-law did a very good job at brainwashing his sister-in-law. A number of people find what Uttara did was shameless and some even suggest and promote that an honor killing should take place where she should be killed. Let us get over this barbaric practice and let us use our brains to look at this situation. Uttara was definitely a woman of weak character and easily susceptible to the "charms" of anyone. Her brother-in-law knew that and he was able to do what he wanted with her. It is an act of amazing manipulation. It is requires no gun and no force, just making the person "THINK" they are doing everything themselves out of their own free will.
The writers of this show did something that was very sophisticated and talented and what I see as rather too intelligent for some of the readers here. Instead of hating on the guy, they are furious with Uttara. Yes, I am not happy with what she did but I DO have sympthaties for her stupidity. She will eventually wake up from her "fantasy" and she will then realize that she was used and that is when she will probably end up wanting to kill herself. Unfortunately the audience members iwll not have much sympathy for her.

hi. I am a silent reader - I watch this show sometimes. I do agree with you. I find some of the posts and remarks on this forum quite shocking !

But meting out harsh moral judgments especially to a woman (by women) is not so surprising.

No one believes that Uttara is innocent or that she hasn't commited a major felony - completely disregarding her sisters feelings. But that is why I like this show. Having a lapse of judgement is what makes Uttara utterly human. ( but not evil - or any of the other pejoratives being thrown around.).

These woman characters are not some devis who don't make mistakes. Uttara's character is complex - from the very beginning she was shown having a crush on her BIL , subtly exhibiting jealousy towards her sister and at the same time navigating through her own marital problems. At a time of her life when she is weak - she gave in to her secret desire. Its sad that in hindu society a widowed woman has no right to re-live her life and I enjoyed watching how the colorless Uttara felt color reentering with Brahma's 'love'

Why do Indian audience only like their characters to be oscillating between two extremes - extraordinary goodness or outright evil ? Why not enjoy the spectrum of human strengths and flaws in the shows characters as well .?

Few women would sleep with their BIL and if they do their acts should not be condoned - but seriously this is a show. I look forward to watching the array of emotions - oscillating between guilt and assertion of her love - when reality slowly sinks into her.

What I like in this show is that the woman are not shown as little innocents being hounded by the big bad wolf - as in real life - they are willing participants and somewhat responsible for their own ruin.

Some forum members seem to be ready to 'burn the witch !!'. No wonder Indian shows are so unoriginal and most characters lacking in dimension - the audience appears really immature and only wants to met out moral exhortations - hence there is no focus on interesting gripping storylines.

Can we PLEASE applaud the lady who is playing Uttara? I think she is doing a wonderful job! The confusion, the desperation, the hope, the denial, the desires are ALL taken care of and performed meticulously. I think she is FANTASTIC! It is tough to play a character as complex, as self-deluded, as low of self-esteem with SUCH CONFIDENCE! BRAVO!!!! And for those who think Uttara should be killed, I'm sure they are also the ones who think KARAN should be killed because he is gay!

Uttara and Karan and even Gaurav are all ttied up in their confused emotional state...Uttara was shown full of joy and love at one moment in the last episode and then at the next moment when she just starts getting a feeling that she has done wrong she was shown very beautifully like a woman used just for fun...her anger her tears her way of talikng to Imli and Priya were all showing her inner turmoil very well...she is ready to spend her life with just the memory of that one night but she wants his approval...
Gaurav knows that he loves Karan but he cannot give up the guilt feeling he has for Vidya...he keeps thinking about her well being all the time
