It makes me livid

After watching the maha episode, I was left feeling extremely livid and angry. I was disguisted. Why? Because what we see in Maryada is a harsh reality of society. I am so angry at the fact that there are many people like the SSP, that abuse their power and authority, by taking advantage of young girls. They then abuse their position by making sure that their shameful act is covered up. It also makes my blood boil that there are girls like Priya within society that try to seek justice but their voices are silenced by those in power. They verbally abuse, ridicule, insult and humiliate until the victim loses all hope. And whatever is left, people around them taunt them without even knowing the real facts.

It was said that this a bold drama and indeed it is. But I am glad that this issue has been addressed. There are girls/women in EVERY society that are physically abused, molested, raped and it scars them for life. It's not just the physical pain that they have to endure...it is the mental torture that makes it worse. I also understand that when Priya gets married to Aditya (which is evident) the culprit will become her father in law. It may seem hard to digest but let us not forget that there have been many horrific cases around the world of fathers and father figures that are so disguisting and mentally warped to cross all boundaries of a pure relationship.

I would say hats off to the entire team of Maryada, from the writer, director, to the actors. They have done a commendable job. I know that we have other dramas that have dealt with similar issues but I sincerely believe that Maryada so far has been close to realistic. I just hope that they show Aditya as Priya's strength and that he helps her in her fight for justice. I feel bad for him, the culprit is his father. But he has wronged Priya. And even if it had been any other girl and not Priya, even then the SSP should be severly punished. No man has the right to ruin the life and reputation of a girl.

I totally agree with you.
My grandmother dislikes this program and Kali, and I told her that when people are showing the truth why do you find it so hard to digest??
Its because people dont accept this type of thing can happen . Other programs show life how most people want theirs to be with nice clothes a big house and heaps of money. I love that Maryada shows the opposite of what most programs show. I think their should be more Bold programs like Kali and Maryada.
People prefer to turn a blind eye rather than fight for what is right

I agree 100% with you....it is the harsh realities of life that they show in Maryada....there are many people in this world who go through pain worse than death due to inhuman acts by people who hold some power over them....it can be a father...a brother....a relative....or someone in a powerful position legally.....Since i volunteer at a center for teenage mothers out of rape.....i have seen far worse things than what they even showed in Maryada.....there was one case where a girl was raped by both her father and brother at the same time......that is how much sickness there is in this world.

It is truly commendable that the Maryada team showed it in a realistic way...without making it into something its not.....the pain on Priya's face....through out the ordeal was so realistic....and the issue was touched in a way which makes people think.....i'm glad I started to watch this show above others....cos it is a truly a good show.

Yesterday's episode creeped me out totally... The molestation scene in the train was so real, so brilliantly enacted by both Riddhi and Vishwajeet, that it just got me goosebumps all over!
Priya's victimization at the hands of both the SSP and the society presented a harsh reality to all of us...that very bad things do happen to good people and sometimes nothing can be done about it!
It also showed us that if there are people like the SSP in this world, who go out of their way to ruin an innocent person's life, then there are also people like Aditya, who go out of their way to build back broken lives!
Beautiful episode...painful to watch in parts, emotional and heartwarming in some, but overall wonderfully enacted and directed!👏

totally agree with you!

yesterday's scene in the train was really scary, i was almost in tears watching her crying.. and the mere thought that incidents like this do happen with people in real life was frightening but the fact is this is reality.. and one cannot stay in denial.. it is also important to look at the cruel side of life..
and Maryada is portraying reality.. yes indeed the serial is bold but what it is showing is life.. it is a fact like people like SSP do exist and such things do take place.
the creatives and directors are doing a great job..

and also this show gives hope too in the form of Aditya.. SSP came in Priya's life as a devil who in a way destroyed her life and now it will be Aditya who will make her life.. i am confident he will support her and will be her strength, his love is not weak that her past can shatter it...

hola girl - we mmet again, new place, old names =)

but without digressing frm your post - the show has been so real so far, that its unbelievable after a while.

while extra marrital affairs and infidelity is not a norm that gets defined by nationality or race or anything such - there have been researches which indicate how the Indian society, even in our very outgoing and open minded genX shows two typical traits:

* the woman may want to part ways, seek a divorce remarry or something on those lines - in the larger number of cases, she is not the infidel.

* the male, in a happy settled home and a relationship he has chosen for himself can still meander. it doesn't change his concern for his family or any of his other high principles in life, but somewhere a handful incidents of infidelity are not something that mar his conscience eternally - not even transiently in ,many cases. whats most disappointing is how his lady/better half will even knowingly live with it... its so heavily inbred into the society - this infidelity rate from the males being almost acceptable or normal that its horrific in its very existence. Horrific, but true.

The SSP's wife in this show is a very real character - one who knows and lives with it - and could an outsider know of her life? its doubly unfair that her husband's wrong doing becomes her personal dark secret - one that she shall shun from revealing even to her own children (Which explains Adi's reverence of his father - at some point i feel like gaurav understands his father's cheat on his mother which makes him so entirely set on his mother's word that he goes to any extent to obey her word - and any extent, is any extent... because it seems his issue with the marriage is not another girl, but another guy...)

point is - while Uttara lives with physical abuse, which still becomes evident to people who's support she inevitabl gains (namele all of her sister's family) SSP's wife lives with what no one can see - and her greatest perseverance lies in keeping that illusion in tact... in that - she becomes the strongest and the weakest female character of the show at once.

I suppose what's most laudable about Maryada, the show, is the fact that through mere 4 women, the writers and cvs showcase the most common, most primeval, and most inherent flaws in the marital relationships - especially in this eastern side of the world and its society...

great post, btw =)

cheers,
nj

Thanks for opening the topic Aaliya ...

So many times we as a society do not want to relate to anything bad or or even think that bad thing like this exist...so we are customed to goody goody stuff and turn deaf to the cruel realities of our society which hides behind the mask of being a good person or good citizen..
I want to applaud Maryada creatives writes actors, productions house and the whole gang for coming out with the strong message so, It definately is a BOLD step for the production house and the show trying to reach out to our communities...
I couldn't watch the entire molestations scene as I was in tears and trembling...both actors did a fantastic job and the actual scene looked so real...
