I used to just love the singing of Keerti Shiledar, did not think I would find quite a few videos of her renditions on youtube.

Actually, there's a group that revives Golden Oldies like 'Sharada', 'Swayamvar', 'Saubhadra',
'Maanaapamaan' etc and stages them at Bharat Natya Mandir, Pune. Interesting that you should mention Keerti Shiledar's name. I just finished attending a series of revived sangeet natak-s only Sun eve (Feb 2). They were 'Kulavadhu', 'Katyaar ...', 'Swayamvar' & 'Saubhadra'. The actors were professional actors/ singers who perform these natak-s commercially. (E.g. the 'Saubhadra' had Rahul Deshpande, Anand Bhate, Ajay Purkar - Insp Vazalwar of 'Asambhav' and the real winner of SRGMP schedule for actors where Prashant Damle was officially declared the winner - & Asmita Chinchalkar, probably the best female singer-actress around. They also held a natyasangeet competition for youth and the prize distribution was at the hands of Keerti Shiledar who also presented 'Marathi Natyasangeetachee Waatchaal'.
Katyaar ..., Maanaapamaan & Saubhadra are regularly performed these days.

AG as a film-maker is a big flop. Don' know what happened to his new movie Ek Tara with Santosh Juvekar. Was it ever released or no distributor touched it ?

Lucky you SW!! 😊 I am sooo 'J' now and seriously miss being in India when I read all your posts about seeing so many stage shows and attending all such programs. Although I am not a music expert, and not that I attended as many programs when I was there, its such a nice opportunity to witness the young talent learn the difficult yet memorable creations. I wonder how that era of Balgandharva, Kirloskar natak mandali, Dinanath Mangeshkar was!!

Wasn't Kaushik Deshpande in some Hindi singing competition? He was all about show and was very loud - nothing close to original. No wonder he was given 'Ma' although that does not guarantee his getting ousted soon.
Shrinidhi Gatate was also not close to Ashaji's original. The ups and downs were not the same as original and no sensuousness at all.

Contrasting to his last week's gazal rendition, Pralhad Jadhav was also not impressive. Same for Mrunmayee Phatak.
For all the songs that got 'Ma', I could not get rid of the original songs and got a feeling of 'something' missing. Not sure if the participants were tensed because of the grading.

Jayant Pansare was undoubtedly the best amongst all today👍🏼. Absolutely deserved a 'dha'.

And Shruti Bhave and Toufik ji's jugalbandi was simply fantabulous👏

Do you remember the skit on ZM Awards show (or somesuch) where they made fun of Santosh Juvekar, suggesting that only AG casts him? That was spot on. AG's movies are so alike. IMHO, he is a middling artist who gets an A for effort in reinventing himself to stay relevant & current.

@Neela - Being a diehard classical music fan, I like Mrunmayee for the purity of her sur, though Taufiqji was right that her sound volume was way too low. Several others disappointed, particularly Shankar Giri. Didn't watch the Tuesday epi, but I won't be surprised if everybody tries to sing entertaining/ upbeat/ famous/ item songs with lotsa orchestration (like Ajay-Atul) or what else but lAwNyA! Those are the kinds of songs that rock AG's boat.

I suspect Rasika will be in the top 3 (she brings the TRP!), Sanjyoti will win (do I need to state the reasons?) and there will be a male singer to round out the final 3.

As remarked earlier, delicacy, finesse, nuances etc are lost on AG. Give him a lAwNI, an item song, an upbeat song with plenty of orchestration and he comes into his own and praises it to the skies.
In general, the marks of the two judges don't differ by more than one note by an unwritten convention. Also, the two judges take turns in scoring, so AG goes first half the times and TQ the other half.

Non-musical factors viz looks, 'attitude', type of song, being from Kolhapur etc matter more to AG than mundane things like sur. You shouldn't be surprised 😉

Agree with both of you. I am kinda done with this season of SRGMP in the 1st two weeks 😔 Did not expect TQ also to be a seasoned judge. That Rasika Ganu better be give -ve marks for her over stylizing. Seems SWs prediction of the winner is going to come true. I would not be surprised to see RG in the top 5

Today's Pralhad Jadhav's 'Tum hi ho' totally lacked the huskiness of the original song by Arijit Singh. As a gazal singer, the urdu pronounciation of 'kh' in 'khuda', 'z' in 'zindagi' should have come bang on like the writing style with nukhta. Totally missing, but still he got 'dha'. That was surprising from AG, who is do fond of bringing that huskiness in all his songs.

Mrunmayee Phatak was a total flopp. Do they direct them to dance also? I mean even though her husband was there amongst the spectators, there was no need of enticing him in a competition risking the song. As such if that was not her genre she should have been extra cautious. She just blew it off.

Reshma Kulkarni's 'Majhiya Priyala' was quite ok. Was it worth a 'Nee'? Her voice was broad / husky like Shobha Gurtu, but the pitch for 'avaru manala kaise, mala te jamena' is so high in the original song - I felt she totally missed on that. But overall it had that 'kasak / dard' feeling in it. And Avdhoot was full on with his 'panchat' jokes as expected after a lavani.

Juilee Joglekar's 'Ye mera dil' could have been more sensuous. The orchestra for this song was simply awesome👍🏼👏. I think her adakari was more impressive 😉. But I would say a nee quite justified as an overall effect. Arthaat as always AG' praise on such songs are overhyped.

Whatever!
