Mamta to go off air!

"I guess as an actor, one has to move on," says Ajay.


Mamta has been on air since the past two years but the serial will soon be shown the door by the channel in October sometime. Lead actor Ajay Krish is sad that the show he's been associated with for so long will go off air.

"I guess as an actor, one has to move on. But Mamta was my baby and as Sid, it got me into the limelight as an actor. I will miss the show," he says.

But what according to him went wrong with the show? "I think as a serial, it had reached its saturation point. Plus, all the main actors had creative issues," says Ajay.

But at the same time, Ajay is quite excited too. Reason? Around the same time that Mamta goes off air, Ajay's new serial Ardhangini will go on air. "In Jay Mehta's Ardhangini which is a love story, I will be playing the main lead. I can't reveal much about the show except that the protagonists are from a Bengali background," he says.

The actor is doubly happy because he will be playing his age in the serial after playing an old man in Mamta . "I was afraid of getting typecast as an old guy and that had been a major hitch for me when the serial took a generation leap," he adds with a smile.

And although on the personal front, Ajay says that he has nothing to reveal — "As of now, it's just work I want to concentrate on. I want to give myself one more year to settle down" — the actor has been linked with almost every actress in the show. "I don't think link-ups will ever stop. It's part and parcel of being in the acting industry. In fact, when the generation leap took place, I was afraid they might link me with my on-screen daughter-in-law too!" he jokes.
