Mamta – A review by me. (not a serious critical essay, but some of my thoughts about the various characters of this serial, whom I've grown to love so much.) hope my review isn't going to get me a bad name. and I spent over 2 hours analysing the characters & writing it out. basically I'm a south Indian, who can't speak much Hindi, because I speak Tamil, but thankfully I'm able to analyse this dram because they have English subtitles for it! hurray for zee tv!
Ha-ha! anyway, here goes my review :
Mamta
Neha Mehta has done a terrific job as 'mamta'. her sweet & natural beauty is a pleasing sight to the eye.⭐️ neha expresses her emotions through her expressive eyes. they seem to have a language of their own. I especially love the scenes between neha & anand (akshay), their chemistry is just so incredible. 👍🏼when neha looks at anand with those eyes, I can actually feel her emotions clearly. it is the same when she is with krish, I can feel her motherly affection towards him, even though it's only a drama. neha has won my heart. ❤️I think that neha Mehta can be the one & only person who can portray the character of 'mamta'. no one else may be able to such a good job. 😆
Akshay
Anand Suryavanshi who plays Akshay in this drama has the looks as well as the talent.😉 if given a good break, he has the ability to make it big, whether in dramas or movies. anand has performed well, the scenes where he struggles with his love for his family and tanisha's betrayal are commendable.👍🏼 he can also cry quite convincingly. there is one scene in 'mamta', where akshay sheds tears upon hearing tanisha's infidelity. that particular scene of anand did impress me, as I felt his tears as if he was really crying for such a bad betrayal. anand has great chemistry with neha Mehta (mamta), they just simply 'click' together.❤️ every episode, I wait for their scenes together, very eagerly. the way the look at each other makes me suspect that there may be something going on between this two, outside the sets of 'mamta'.😳 hopefully, there is.😆 all in all, akshay is a sweet & loyal character, who deserves a sweet & loyal girl like mamta. 😃
Tanisha
The most impressive character in 'Mamta'. if anand suryavanshi & neha mehta deserve compliments for their great acting, preeti puri who plays tanisha, deserves double the amount of praise, for her superb portrayal of 'tanisha'.😛 it surprises me on how easily she can slip herself into such a venomous role. just like how I feel 'mamta' can be acted out by only neha mehta, I also feel that 'tanisha' can only be acted out by preeti. preeti is simply gorgeous and she has the perfect height & built for anand (akshay). 😊but it's just too bad that I don't see any sort of chemistry between them. they would have made quite a perfect couple. 😭'tanisha' is a very difficult role to perform, even more so than 'mamta'. while mamta is good and sweet, neha does a fantastic job of being all that, preeti has the more arduous task of convincing the audiences. 😕convincing them that she IS evil, manipulative and sceheming. I bet some people are so convinced till they label her a heartless woman even off the sets of 'mamta'. I don't know about anyone else, but I have always had more respect towards those people who play villains in dramas, because that requires lots of courage and acting skills on the actors part. it's tough being evil, easy being good. preeti has gained my respect. she is a superb actress and a very convincing, beautiful villainess. I love mamta's (neha) sweet looks more, but preeti is a great actress, I'll give her that. 👍🏼
Krish
What can I say? he's a powerhouse performer at the age of two. krish is adorable and extremely likeable. 😛I am pretty sure that he will grow up to be a very cute & talented actor. somehow, he seems to share a bond with mamta (neha), even off the sets of 'mamta'. they look so cute as mother & son! maybe krish really does like neha mehta a lot! such a CUTE boy! love him! love him! love him! 😊
Karan
A selfish character, who only thought for himself until his wife, shaina loses their child. karan is also just as manipulative as tanisha, except that he still has some conscience left in him. unlike, tanisha, who is completely and totally heartless. karan took advantage of nanda's naivety, betrayed a good wife like shaina and always misunderstands his father's intentions.👎🏼 but still, he is the most real display of a human being. his desires & motives show starkly on how ugly a human being can get when he starts thinking only about himself, and no one else. 😭karan, however, gained my respect for him when he took the blame for cheating on shaina, instead of shifting all the faults on nanda. he even told tanisha off when she tried to turn him against mamta. he seems sincere in wanting shaina to forgive him, so I hope that he and shaina can be happy again. it takes a big man to make mistakes, but it takes even a bigger man to own up to it.👍🏼 karan deserves forgiveness in my opinion.
Shaina
Shaina is a sweet woman, who is too nave and trusting. 😆because of this naivety, she gets cheated by her husband, loses her child and gets her heart broken. after her miscarriage, shaina seems to have become cold & emotionless. in shaina's eyes now, karma is a total jerk and mamta is also responsible for her loss of her baby. I love Shaina's smile and I miss it very much.😭 I want to see her happy again. I hope she forgives karan and not misunderstand mamta anymore. 😃
Nanda
Nanda is a very real character in this drama. she portrays all the dreams, hopes & desires of a wannabe starlet. her ambitions as such lead her astray & also spark off her affair with karan.😡 I would not say that nanda was completely blameless for the loss of shaina's baby, but she was one of the causes for shaina to be so broken. nanda is then sent packing when her affair with karan gets exposed, by tanisha. whom she trusted so much, but then again, you must be mad to trust tanisha of all people.😛 a sad fact of life that many girls who come to Mumbai with big dreams, get their hopes dashed like poor nanda. 😭
Anand Shrivastav & Damayanti Shrivastav (Akshay's Parents)
Anand Shrivastav is the more wiser parent. he knows when to take sides and when not to take sides in an argument. when his wife blamed nanda mostly for shaina's accident, anand put his foot down & chided his wife, not even supporting his son karan, a bit. that is why maybe he is one of my most favourite characters in this drama.😛 he loves both his sons dearly, but somehow, his good intentions always get misunderstood by karma. I feel that anand shrivastav is a clear headed man, who respects others & sees things from both points of view.
Damayanti Shrivastav is the more emotional parent. she gets swayed by emotions. tanisha's tears especially have a special effect on her. damyanti is kind hearted, sweet & nice, 😃but sometimes I get annoyed by her unshakable trust in tanisha. not knowing that all tanisha is doing is using her to get back at akshay & mamta.😔 damayanti is the person that tanisha can persuade most easily with her crocodile tears. hopefully, as the story develops, damayanti can finally see through tanisha's faade of being the perfect daughter in-law.😉
Granny (Dadi- Ma)
A very nice but sometimes stubborn old lady who adores mamta. 😆her liking and unwavering support for mamta, sparks off jealousy in tanisha and displeasure in damyanti (akshay's mum). but then, Dadi- ma is manipulated by tanisha to make mamta agree to the marriage. hopefully dadi ma will be on akshay's side when he finally confesses his love for mamta.😃 but then again, maybe not, because now everyone thinks that tanisha is some kind of saint, including dadi ma. 😡
Masuma
I am unable to review this character properly as she has very little screentime, even lesser than Phulwari, Banwari & Tanisha's mum, who happen to be minors in this dramas. 🤢
Phulwari & Banwari
The comic relief in this somewhat serious drama. both pulwari and banwari usually have me smiling at their silly antics and incessant arguments, 😆usually over nothing at all. especially banwari, the male servant. his expressions & body language when he sees phulwari being showered with gifts from Baadsha, the driver, has me in stitches. 😆I love these 2 silly characters and maybe with help from the ever sweet mamta, these 2 bickering people can take their 'romance' further.😆
Tanisha's Mum
Another comedic character, but somehow this woman is selfish as well as funny, because she helps her daughter, tanisha with her evil plots. I can't hate her as much as tanisha though, maybe it's because she makes me laugh more than getting me angry.😃 the scenes where she puts the cold ice pack on her head with that 'exasperated look on her face,😆 as krish cries in front of her and the way she scolds krish are simply hilarious. and when she danced for the 'dus bahaane' song, just to make krish stop crying was indeed a classic comedic moment in 'mamta'.😆
Conclusion
My love for 'Mamta' grows more and more, ❤️every single episode that is aired is never missed by me. I must say that I'm becoming one heck of a fan of this drama! with colourful characters, engaging screenplay, fantastic cinematography, sweet music(especially the lullabies sang for krish, by neha mehta (mamta) herself, neha has a beautiful voice by the way!👏) and expert direction, 'Mamta' is a must see drama. If you miss 'Mamta', in my eyes, you're really missing a great drama. ⭐️
THE END (finally!lols!) 😆
