Lakshmana was viryashulka like Draupadi. Duryodhan was invited and lost same as Draupadi swayamavar.
Mitravinda was abducted by Krishna though she was in love with him. Because her brothers wanted Duryodhan.
Kashi princess and Kalinga Princess could similarly have been preferring someone else.
Being in love with someone else doesn't mean Duryodhan was not worthy of being Husband.
In any case in a swayamavar if 100 King's participated only 1 could be selected, that doesnt mean others arent worthy
Because if they weren't worthy they would not be invited.
Like Vicjitravirya, who was not invited. Duryodhan got invitations for every swayamavar. Most father's and brothers thought he was good enough. Some brides chose differently. Some had a contest that he failed that is all.
In any case Mahabharata was recited to Arjuna's great-grandson and Bhagvatham was about Krishna.
They would never have Duryodhan as the charming prince the one who sweeps princesses off their feet.
These would have Duryodhan losing badly from Arjun and Krishna in winning affections of women.
So we have subhadra surrendering to Draupadi after abduction happily. Why not the same for Kalinga and Kashi princesses for Durydodhan. Arjun gets to be the awesome guy for kidnapping and Duryodhan gets to be rejected loser ....
My point being having less children does not mean father is impotent or his wife is having an affair.
I also told how Krishna was made the alpha male.
His child could not die in infancy so a miracle story of kamdev was used to cover up an adoption. And yes the part that they didn't have kids for a long time and hence Krishna had to pray to shiva is there in harivansh and even Bhagvatham if I am not wrong.
Pradyumna was adopted as an adult. When he came to Dwarka he already had a wife Maya. He was most likely same age as Krishna. Krishna's marriages starting from Rukmini happened till Khandavadahn. Infact he married one after Khandavadahan.
If he was 18 or so when he married Rukmini. He and Arjun could be 22/23 at the time of Draupadi swayamavar.
And he prayed for all his wives to have children. So none conceived till that time.
@chiilii
Pradyumna bring kamdev incarnation theory was shown in Ramanand Sagar shrikrishna.
There it was shown Pradyumna was destinated to kill shamrasur , who latter kidnap him & throw in ocean, later he was saved by some fisher man & woman. Fisher woman was some demon woman who with her own powers make Pradyumna in to an adult. Well I guess these r some folktale or divine angle stories.
Why was krishna adopting grown up men's , I read Krishna adopted 4 sons including Pradyumna ?

That entire story is in Bhagwatam if I remember correctly.
Sreemad is much later text academically. Even if it was narrated to Parikshit the one we have today has nothing to do with the one which was narrated!
Anyhow it is filled with the divine tales and over glorification of Krishna.
As Chhiillli rightly said the son of such great men could definitely not die in infancy. This doesn't match the aura of Krishna as was presented in Sreemad, so an entire story of growing up in seconds was created to hide infant death and adoption
The hint of adoption could be seen in Harivamsapurana where the relationship between Gadukesha n Pradyumna is properly highlighted
I think Krishna definitely needed more people in his side n since he wasn't having kids of his own for some time, he might have taken grown ups for adoption

Oh wow that's a dual wish then
Seriously I for the first time met someone who is an English teacher n is so well versed in Sanskrit. Completely Impressed
You should actually write a book on your understanding. I would help many to understand Mahabharata in a non divine angle

I had not read harivansham or bhagwatam both , I only saw it on shri krishna serial.
I agree, @ Faluntpessimissm
That's was the whole point. Adoption of Pradyumna as son and giving inheritance gave a good warrior as ally to Krishna. Not just that Pradyumna was also a good guy. Someone Krishna could be really proud of as a father unlike Samba

U once told dwarka was balram's dowry & when he left 4 mithila major yadavs follow him 2 mithila , Krishna was all alone .
Then Why is Krishna known as Dwarkadhish when he was not king also of dwarka ?

Krishna was deified and worshipped by Parikshit and Vajra. Vajra was the first one to make his idol and get it installed at several places including Mathura to start his worship on par with Shiva and Devi. As till then only Shiva Linga and Devi Murthy existed. Only these two had temples no one else.
Once Krishna was declared lord and master of universe. Dwarkadhish was a natural epithet.
But the Dwarkadhish means God of Dwarka.
Dwarka Ish - war.
And not king of Dwarka.
Ugrasen was alive till Ashwamedha. Then Vasudeva became King after that Balrama's turn it would have been and then Krishna and then Pradyumna.
Balrama's problem was that Krishna was better than him in all respects and he was scared of losing his rightful place to Krishna.
