Please do that.

Yes definitely no one could have had a gem, so what could have been the punishment

Like they did with Jayadrath. Except, they didnt give Ashwatthama a haircut, they gave him a wound which would surely scar permanently. Probably some word which was insulting.

Now that all existing topics are closed, could we discuss what you think of Shantanu Ganga story

Was Ganga mentally unstable? Why was she killing her sons. And why did Shantanu despite being the king allow her to take Devrat with her when she left

Santanu marries Ganga, she has 7 still born babies. 8th when born is also weak, So Santanu decides he will marry again. An upset Ganga leaves with the baby to her dad Rishi Jahnu's ashram.

Santanu marries Satyavati, who has just a year ago got out of a secret relationship with Rishi Parasar

One year later Chitrangad is born, but Devvrat also survives and is being raised with his grandpa.

Satyavati has Vichitravirya 2 yrs later.

A sceptical Santanu doesnt bother with him, expecting he may die soon enough. He anyways is besotted with Satyavati and her two sons.

Ganga arranges Parshurama and Brihaspati to train Devvrat. He becomes the best warrior and then Ganga the rishi's daughter makes Devvrat demonstrate his skill to Santanu when he is spending time at the banks oF Ganga, by building a dam of arrows.

Impressed Santanu decides to make him the crown.prince. Anyways he is older, born to first wife and very capable.

Furious Satyavati leaves him and goes to her dad Dasaraj's home with her sons.

But Santanu is in love with Satyavati and cares for the two sons he has raised with her and so is depressed.

Dasaraj refuses to send satyavati and her sons back unless Devvrat abdicates

Finally Devvrat decides to abdicate for the sake of his father.

Father blesses him and names him.Bhishma.

The above is not what is mentioned in the epic. The epic has miracle, boon and curses and vasus etc as well Ganga the river becoming a woman story..

I totally dont believe that

Ganga was a human, a daughter of Jahnu gotra rishi living on the banks of River Ganga, who meets Santanu.. They fall in love and marry.

Still born infants in Hinduism dont have a funeral. They are if possible, submerged in a river or buried in soil, even today.

Ganga the woman was doing the same with her 7 still born sons.

Also no fisherman chief or his daughter would ever have the guts to refuse marriage or lay conditions for marriage to a king in tha era.

Even Draupadi who was sworn to be married to only the winner of the archery contest had to be quietly married to his brothers as well, inspite of pandavas being beggars and Drupad being a mighty king.

Santanu would simply kidnap satyavti and leave and no one could stop him.. Bhishma did that, duryodhan did that, arjun and even.krishna and his son did that.

So.an ordinary fisherman would never be in a position to make any demands. Most importantly how the hell would he know Satyavati was going to have sons and not daughters.

But if Satyavati was already married to Santanu and had 2 healthy sons whom Santanu had already loved and lived with for 18 years. Her father could then do emotional blackmail.

Hence my story....

Not.only that. This makes Bhishma Vichitravirya age gap as 2 years. Thereby making Pandu's birth when Bhishma is 20, Yudhishtir birth at 45 and war at 95 more realistic.

Yes. Also to note is that Bheeshma was primarily an archer. A 95 yo could still possibly do archery. He wasn't a mace fighter or swordsman to need to be physically fit.

This does make sense, otherwise there would hardly be anyone who would dare to reject the kings offer of marriage. Had it been some great king we could still think that he would have saved her daughter, but difficult for a commoner.

And ages do match this way.

Do you think Bheeshm really cared for Vichitraveer/Chitrangad?

I believe there is a mention of Bheeshma beating up Vichitraveera.

Yup. Very true. Its like Driving a car. My uncle was doing it till 6 months before his death at the age of 89. He was fit, but obviously no match for young people.
