I was wondering why is that if Draupadi is mentioned as Goddess Laxmi so clearly in Mahabharata, She isn't worshipped as her, I mean she is worshipped as Goddess Kali then why not Goddess Laxmi with Lord Krishna / Lord Vishnu?

There are 3 interps of Panchali's relationship with Krishna with re: divinity.

1. He is supreme God, and she is subordinate devotee. This is the popular one for the obvious reason that India (and the rest of the world) has been patriarchal for millennia

2. The friendship which is actually a nondivine one

3. The interp where she is Adishakti, and Krishna is merely carrying out her instructions. This is actually a very prevalent thought in South India. One of the folk retellings even has her killing the demon who kidnapped Rati and winning her for Pradyumna when Krishna/Pandavas were defeated.

I believe it is in either a Telugu or Tamil retelling that Bheema complaints he can't... er... satisfy her and asks Krishna for help. Krishna somehow gives Bheema a portion of himself which Panchali recognizes during the act. She then demands he marry her, and they get married in their next births. There is actually a Krishna temple attached to this story though I can't remember the name right now.

As to why #1 is popular, I'm still looking for the answer as to why Radha is worshiped alongside Krishna when every pandit knows (or ought to know) she is fan fiction.

There was a story behind selection of Kurukshetra. I don't know whether it's true or not. Pandavas ancestor, Kuru sowed the place with his flesh as seeds and blood as water so God gave him the boon that whoever dies at that place in a war, will be directly sent to heaven.

Yes I heard that too

Does that mean Duryodhan and Shakuni directly went to heaven?? And that was the reason to select Kurukshetra??

They really wanted to punish wrong doers na??

1) They die at an age of 50+ when many die their natural death

2) They die in a battlefield fighting as heroes

3) They directly reach heaven

Wonder what kind of a punishment it was

I really dislike the fact that none of MB showed the birth of Upapandavas 🙄. I mean they may not be prominent like Abhimanyu but still they're the sons of main characters of the epic. SP is much more conservative. They didn't even showed that Draupadi is in periods during Dyut Sabha.

Wowser..

Btw in continuation to that, does anyone know if there is meaning of the names of the Upapandavas🤓

Yudhishthira that as the son of his would be capable of bearing like the Vindhya mountains the weapons of the foe, he should be called Prativindhya.

And because the child that Draupadi bore to Bhimasena was born after Bhima had performed a thousand Soma sacrifices, he came to be called Sutasoma.

And because Arjuna's son was born upon his return from exile during which he had achieved many celebrated feats, that child came to be called Srutakarman.

While Nakula named his son Satanika after a royal sage of that name, in the illustrious race of Kuru.

Again the son that Draupadi bore to Sahadeva was born under the constellation called Vahni-daivata (Krittika), therefore was he called after the generalissimo of the celestial host, Srutasena (Kartikeya).

I have read many posts on quora praising Draupadi's political acumen. She was believed to be very well read & knowledgeable. And of course belonged to a powerful dynasty like the Panchals. It's kind of sad she gets either romanticized or blamed for the war. I totally adore her. One of the most powerful ladies of the holy text.

Yes, Samba raped Lakshmana.

Krishna refused to go to his son's rescue. Balram eventually did. Suyodhana agreed to marry her to Lakshmana.

The same Samba went on to cause the destruction of his entire clan.

I heard Arjun once insulted Yudhisthir? Don't know what he said but something regarding to Draupadi right?

That particular event explained hell lot of things for me about Mahabharata -

'Arjuna said, "Do thou not, O king, address these upbraidings to me, thou that art passing thy time full two miles away from battle

The learned say that the strength of the foremost of Brahmanas lies in speech, and that the Kshatriya's strength is in his arms. Thou, O Bharata, art strong in words and very unfeeling. Thou thinkest me to be like thyself

I always strive to do thee good with my soul, life, sons and wives. Since, not withstanding all this, thou still piercest me with such wordy darts, it is evident that we cannot expect any happiness from thee. Lying on Draupadi's bed thou insultest me

Thou art without any anxiety, O Bharata, and thou art cruel. I have never obtained any happiness from thee.

I do not derive any pleasure from the thought of thy restoration to sovereignty, since thou art addicted to the evil practice of gambling. Having thyself committed a wicked act to which they only are addicted that are low, thou desirest now to vanquish thy foes through our aid

We have never derived any happiness from thee since thou wert engaged in gambling with dice.

It was thou that didst that cruel act in consequence of which the Kauravas have become offenders and are being destroyed. Nations from the North, the West, the East, and the South, are being struck, wounded and slain, after the performance of incomparable feats in battle by great warriors of both sides. It was thou that hadst gambled

It was for thee that we lost our kingdom. Our calamity arose from thee, O king! Striking us, again, with the cruel goad of thy speeches, O king, do not provoke our wrath

@Blue - Explained why Arjuna was unwilling to fight, he didn't find happiness in fighting this war so that Yudi can be King again

There was so much buried inside heart of these brothers, they didn't like each other, except for Arjuna and Bhima, their bond is beautiful

SPK is like Dettol for Karna, 99.9% kitanu maar de it cleaned Karna way beyond imagination, I wonder if Suryalok has television and cable connections, what would have Karna actually thought seeing SPK
