They didn't go forest prepared for a war. First Dury got irrititated knowing Ps are happy & prosperous in forest. He becomes restless and threatens karna that he'll do suicide if they're not dead. Then distressed & worried Karna gets ready to attack them. But as soon as they steps out the palace, Vyasa stops them & advices about the consequences and asks do only the right. (it of course relieved Karna as he never wanted that war). But Dury was hell bent to mock Ps in forest. So they arranged a carnival in forest so that he can show his wealth & power to make Ps feel jealous and he can in turn feel satisfied seeing them fuming with jealousy. And they all go forest, do parades & parties in front of Ps to the content of their hearts. None of them are prepared for a war or even a casual fight. But Gandharvas gatecrashes Dury (I wonder why did they do it when Dury did not poke them at all). Then Gs inform their king, Chitrasena & they begin the war. The below is some of the details of it. What you read in brackets are the events happening in between..
(was begins & all kaurava soldiers run away soon)...And beholding the Kuru soldiers all flying from the field with their backs to the foe, the heroic Radheya alone fled not. And seeing the mighty host of the Gandharvas rushing towards him, Radheya checked them by a perfect shower of arrows. And the Suta's son, owing to his extreme lightness of hand, struck hundreds of Gandharvas with Kshuraprasand arrows and Bhallas and various weapons made of bones and steel. And that mighty warrior, causing the heads of numerous Gandharvas to roll down within a short time, made the ranks of Chitrasena to yell in anguish. And although they were slaughtered in great numbers by Karna endued with great intelligence, yet the Gandharvas returned to the charge by hundreds and thousands...(and seeing Karna bravely fighting all of them alone, others got courage, Dury etc warriors joined him)... The Gandharvas, at last, afflicted with the shafts of the Kuru army, seemed to be exhausted. And the Kauravas beholding the Gandharvas so afflicted sent up a loud sound. (seeing the Gandharvas losing out of fear, the angry Chitrasena uses his weapons of illusion.)... And the Kaurava warriors were then all deprived of their senses by the illusion of Chitrasena. And then, O Bharata, it seemed that every warrior of the Kuru army was fallen upon and surrounded by ten Gandharvas. And attacked with great vigour, the Kuru host was greatly afflicted and struck with panic. O king, all of them that liked to live, fled from the field. But while the entire Dhritarashtra host broke and fled, Karna, that offspring of the Sun, stood there, O king, immovable as a hill. Indeed, Duryodhana and Karna and Sakuni, the son of Suvala, all fought with the Gandharvas, although every one of them was much wounded and mangled in the encounter. All the Gandharvas then, desirous of slaying Karna, rushed together by hundreds and thousands towards Karna. And those mighty warriors, desirous of slaying the Suta's son, surrounded him on all sides, with swords and battle-axes and spears. And some cut down the yoke of his car, and some his flagstaff, and some the shaft of his car, and some his horses, and some his charioteer. And some cut down his umbrella and some the wooden fender round his car and some the joints of his car. It was thus that many thousands of Gandharvas, together attacking his car, broke it into minute fragments. And while his car was thus attacked, Karna leaped there from with sword and shield in hand, and mounting on Vikarna's car, urged the steeds for saving himself."
Everything is crystal clear. Karna was NOT drunk. Else he would never have been the last one to be affected by illusions casted by Chitrasena. He alone was fighting thousands and thousands of Gs from beginning. Karna had no powers of illusions. I think he also finally got affected by illusions, though it is not written clearly. Karna was being attacked by thousands of Gs using illusions from all sides. Isn't there a limit for a human to resist illusive powers if he doesn't know how to nullify it? That was the point at which he ran away, possibly enchanted by illusive powers. He was not a superman. People only see 'Karna ran away'.😆

1. Gave him the kavacha-kundalas & kept him safe
2. Tried to persuade him in dreams that the Pandavas were his brothers, and to end all enmity w/ them
3. Warned him against giving Indra his kavacha-kundalas
4. Taking him home after his death

Contrast him w/ Mr Yama, who had Yudhi go thru hell, not b'cos of wagering Draupadi, not b'cos of saving Dury from the Gandharvas, but rather, for that lie that he told Drona on Krishna's instructions.

P.S. Granted, ⭐️S-N only did #1 & 3, but not 2 & 4.

Well, my doubt is when he was also equally responsible for whatever happened to Karna, why people exclude him from being stoned? I wonder why only a woman always has to suffer for a mistake done jointly. Not even other women understand her.😆
