Indian Television's Krishna (Mahabharat) and Lord Vishnu (Devon Ke Dev Mahadev) is one of the most popular stars that the TV industry is blessed with today. What makes Saurabh likeable is the absence of starry attitude, his upfront yet inoffensive nature and his cool-headedness. He spoke to Pinkvilla.com recently while on his way back to home after a grueling shoot for a TV show he is doing. Excerpts from the telephonic conversation:

Please tell us about your family and how your started doing TV shows.

My mother is a lawyer by profession. Now she has shifted with me in Bombay. I lost my father a long back. My childhood was not great but not that bad either. I've always had a loving and caring mother with me. I never thought I would get into acting. I was studying computer applications in Delhi and that was when I got selected for my first TV show and came to Mumbai.

How did you meet your wife?

It was a love marriage. I met her in a dance academy in Bombay. She was attending the classes just as a hobby.

How does your wife deals with the adulation you gets from your female fans?

(Laughs) She is happy with it as long my fans are not crossing the limit.

Any weird incident you would like to share with us involving your fan?

No, actually fans do really understand these days. They have not given me any trouble. But yes sometimes fans tend to become pushy in an environment when you just want to focus on your work. So it becomes edgy to deal with them. But so far, there had been no unfortunate experience I could think of.

What does success mean to you?

Happiness! If you are happy, you are successful.

We saw many actors of Mahabharat visiting Indonesia for the MB road show but you were missing from the scene. Why so?

I was doing Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev' which is still on air. So, the main issue for not flying to Indonesia was the lack of dates.

Do you always wish to work in TV industry?

Oh definitely why not! It is every actor's dream to work in a movie, so is mine. If I get a good role on big screen, I would love to do it

You are from the Jain community. And we hear you follow Buddhist ideals too. What inspires you manage to be so spiritual?

I don't think if calling it religious or spiritual my outlook. I believe that whatever good practice you can pick from anywhere, you should take it. And considering my surname is Jain and my mother is a Punjabi, it does not make difference to me. I chant Buddhist mantras/hymns and it makes me feel good.

What do you do in your free time?

I love reading any interesting book. If it is boring I keep it forever after reading 4-5 pages of it. But if it is good, I can go on reading it no matter what genre it belongs to.

What is your fitness mantra?

These days I am going for martial arts class and I also visit the gym. Martial arts is something I was wanting to learn for a very long time and it helps in professionally too.

How is your rapport with the following actors:

# Mohit Raina - We are cordial towards each other but we hardly get to meet his and my work timings most of time are different.

# Shaheer Sheikh - Oh he is like my twin brother.

# Pooja Sharma - she is very good colleague, a professional and a very good friend.

# Praneet Bhatt - he is a friend of a different genre. We like pulling each other's leg by becoming our respective on-screen characters Shakuni and Krishna.

# Veebha Anand - I call her Subhadre. She is actually like my sister.

Would you ever choose to do a reality show like Bigg Boss'?

No, I don't think it is my cup of tea.

Is that because you don't want to reveal your personal life before the world?

Nothing like that. It is because it is not my thing to live away from my home and family for so many months.
