From all the OTT and dramatic scenes in StarBharat today, surprisingly the one that struck me the most was when for a few seconds the camera zoomed on the dead body of the King of Trigarta and the hundreds of dead soldiers, pierced by the arrows of Arjuna. Not that I have ever been overtly sympathetic to Susharma or any of his soldiers in particular but a realization sort of hit me. That these people too are fathers, brothers, and sons to someone.
Them and every others soldiers death in the Kurukshetra War is the reason I disliked the StarBharat depiction of Star-Abhimanyu's death, with his Star-relatives begging on their knees with mercy. It does not befit them and I hate the makers for creating this whole situation in the first place for a little extra drama. Because a part of me screams "hypocrisy."
THIS IS A WAR.
This is the same reason why I hated when Draupadi was depicted as not wanting the war when she found out that her sons would die. Her reaction was of course very natural for a mother but at the same time, it seemed to be giving off the message that "The war is acceptable if other people's kids die, but it is not okay if mine do."
In short, the creatives are treating this war like a joke...like an event used to create more family drama in the Pandava family. Can we please have some more attention on the broader meaning of this war and some appreciation for what the average soldier went through? He, who is fighting unselfishly without the same vengeful motivations of our heroes, deserves some attention and glory too. Don't make the Pandavas grieve to an extent to which it seems like they are disrespecting the average soldier's sacrifice.
This post isn't to have another rant about distortion though (otherwise I would post it on distortion thread) but just to remind us that the agony that the Pandavas are going through is perhaps what thousands of parents went through every day that this war had taken place, which is why I am opposed to it being treated so lightly.
