"Hahaha.. We won again jyeshth!" Bhrata Bheem's loud voice and booming laughter could be heard even in the garden outside the recreation hall. It irked Arjun who had just come out of the hall. It was not the laughter that was the cause of his irritation, it was the reason behind it. Dyut-the game of dice. Arjun hated that game. Because he had no control over the outcome. The game had nothing to do with a person's ability, it was just sheer luck and luck has a way of evaporating when you lean on it. Yes today Jyeshth was winning but Paarth had seen Shakuni's evil smile and even Duryodhan had smiled. That was enough to confirm that this was nothing but a trap. But who would explain that to jyeshth? Even if Arjun tried he knew he'll only get a long lecture on Kshatriya dharma. And then there was that idiot Dushhasan ogling at the serving maids. Paarth wanted to smack that buffoon but he knew that would only earn him disapproving looks and long lectures about how their cousins were finally being friendly and he had spoiled it all over something as trivial as the serving maids. Trivial? so what if those women were maids they were women and all women deserve respect no matter who they are.Arjun thought. But he didn't want to have this argument with jyeshth so he just walked out of the room. The first thing he did was ordering only male servants to go in the recreation hall and prohibiting any female maid from entering it. And now he was here in the gardens but still the voices from the hall were reaching him. He had to get away from them but he couldn't think of a place where he could go and still have the fresh air. He looked up at the stars and suddenly a thought occured to him-the terrace! Of course! How could he have forgotten about the terrace! with that thought Arjun hurried towards the terrace. But as he climbed the last flight of stares something made him stop in his tracks. It was a person standing at the railing shivering due to the cold wind- Paanchali.
How could I be so unmindful?! Draupadi thought as she stood at the railing shivering due to the cold winds. She had forgotten to take a shawl with her in her hurry to reach the terrace. She had been patiently waiting for Maharaj to arrive in their room when the maid appeared and told her that the Maharaj has asked her not to wait for him as he'll be playing dice with his cousins and Mamashree. It was the third time in a row that this happened and it made Paanchali furious not just because Yudhishthir had completely ignored her but also because he was becoming addicted to that awful game. This was the end of her patience and it took all her willpower to stop herself from going into the hall and stopping that game. So she stalked off to the terrace instead as the fresh air and starry sky always calmed her down. She was cursing herself for not bringing a shawl when she heard somebody clear his throat. She immediately turned around and was pleasantly surprised at the sight before her. It was her third husband the mighty archer Arjun looking down at her with concern in this eyes and a shawl in his outstretched hand.
As soon as he had seen Panchali's shivering form Paarth had turned around and fetched a shawl for her. Though he had tried to avoid being alone with her this time he had to approach her. She was uncomfortable and he couldn't just ignore it and turn away. He had to do something about it. So he stepped forward. Draupadi was lost in thoughts and the moonlight falling over her face made her look almost like an apsara- a celestial being. No he thought she is more beautiful than any apsara. She is divine. He wanted to keep staring at her ethereal beauty but then he noticed her shivering and remembered why he had come here. So he cleared his throat. She immediately turned around, alarmed. She looked surprised to see him but also delighted. Or was it just his imagination? Anyways without a word he stretched his hand and offered the shawl to her. She took it with a smile. You should smile more often..It enhances your beauty. Arjun thought as he smiled back.
But then he noticed her blushing. Why is she blushing? .Then his eyes widened."Did I just say that aloud?' he asked her. "Um.. you did.." was all Paanchali could say, Now it was Arjun's turn to blush. He kicked himself internally. The shawl was only halfway draped on her shoulders so when a strong gust of wind blew the shawl fell from her shoulders. Both Panchali and Paarth bent to retrieve it. But Paarth beat her to it. Arjun's hand reached the shawl only a moment before Draupadi's So as his hand clutched the shawl her hand fell on his.Her touch sent tingles down his spine. She immidiately removed her hand. Arjun almost wanted to hold her hand and stop her. He missed her touch already. But he stopped himself from doing anything stupid. Both of them straightened at the same time. As a result their hands banged. "Ow!' Arjun said while rubbing his head. Seeing him like this Draupadi started laughing and within no time Arjun started laughing too. And just like that all the awkwardness was gone...
