I feel kans was a fool or this story is wrong --- he wanted to kill devki's babies -- he could have avoided it by putting devki and her husband in separate prisons or devki herself could have stopped herself from getting pregnant after the death of her first baby. which mother would wanna give birth to another baby when she knows that the baby is going to get killed. This story doest hold any logic--- I am sorry if i have hurt anyone's feelings but i am talking about logic here...

U know what, even I was thinking the same thing 😛 I was contemplating over and over again that why was she giving birth again after seeing the death of her baby.but then I thaught may be it was god's decision.anyways the same case was wid Ganga & shantanu, goddess Ganga gave birth and drowned the baby & shantanu just saw.maybe all that was destined,or maybe these people knew god's signal to them.

Might not seem logical to you but Krishna would've been born in any case even if Vasudev & Devaki were in separate countries because God always finds a way...
Why did Devaki choose to have kids despite knowing Kansa would kill them?

It's because she wasn't selfish...plain & simple. Kansa may have had his own stupid ideas to kill her kids, but the EIGHTH child was DESTINED to destroy Kansa (& save humanity in the future).

And it was COMPLETELY with THAT intention that Devaki kept on giving birth till she had her EIGHTH child.

We are Kaliyug people. How would we know about sacrificing our personal happiness for the sake of humanity's future? Both mothers of Krishna sacrificed a lot from their own end so that He could be available for the rest of the world.

By the way, I'm not sure if it's true but I have read that the six children of Devaki who were killed by Kansa were actually cursed demi-gods...

Well said @shani..she kept making the supreme sacrifice of seeing her newborns die rt in front of her eyes only to fulfil the prophecy and be a medium for The Lord to be born and destroy Kans.. if she wanted she cud have stopped having babies, but she dint become selfish and create hurdles in His path..

quoting myself frm another thread
even i have thought abt since i have understood things .. only thing i arrive at is the arrogance of kans .. maybe he thought he can play God .. separating them or killing both or just one wd be sort of cowards way .. by killing their kids in front of their eyes .. he thought we wd break them frm inside and feel supreme each time 😒 and prove himself as the ultimate decider

We discussed this in detail over at the Mytho Masti forum, here's the thread: https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/indian-mythology/3940119/why-did-vasudev-and-devaki-keep-having-children
Basically, though, yes to everything Shani said 👏 These two characters gave up everything they had and everything the were in favor of God's will - not because they were made of stone and it was easy for them. It was even more unbearable for them to go through it as it is for us fathom it, but not taking the easy way out is what makes them epic characters meant to inspire us to rise above our selfishness and our weaknesses, not mirror them and do exactly what we would do in a given situation.
And yes, those 6 souls were originally gandharvas cursed for insulting Brahma and their liberation was dependent on that sacrifice. It's much like the story of Bhishma and his brothers whom Ganga drowned at birth because they were cursed vasus waiting for their freedom.

Devaki's and Yasodha's story is that of the sacrifice of mother's for the good of humanity. In today's world many mother's tie their children to their apron strings. And every act of mother's are pardoned in the name of motherhood. She is a mother how can she allow kids to do something, she is a mother so she will defend her kid even if he is a criminal. She is a mother she knows what is best for the child.
Krishna's story is one that broke through all this myths. If Devaki suffered one of the worst traumas a woman can suffer by seeing six of her children murdered so that she can give birth to that one child who will save humanity. Then not only that for the welfare of the child she entrusted him with another woman and never saw him growing up.
Coming to Yasodha, this mother bought up the kid fed him, defended his naughtiness, punished him, still loved him and yet in the end parted with him so that he could go on to complete the mission for which he was born.
Both Devaki and Yasodha are treated at par as far as Krishna goes. Both their sacrifices are the reason because of which a great human being was given to world.
I have heard a saying which a mother tells " I was happy the day you were born, but I am happiest the day when the world looks at you and hails the mother who bought you on this earth"
History is replete with examples that if a mother wishes to hear the second line about her offspring then of course she has to let go of the ofspring. Sacrifice has to start from mother
