"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." -Dr. Seuss-
"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close." -Pablo Neruda, 100 love sonnets-
"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you...I could walk through my garden forever." -Alfred Tennyson-

Abhimanyu felt a tightening sensation around his waist. "Uttara" he called out softly & then the weight suddenly lessened beside him. He slowly opened his eyes, Uttara stood near the window, a single transparent brown garment draped around her body, hugging her curves, covering only what was needed, her eyes were swollen & red, her hands around her chest hugging herself tightly. Abhimanyu sometimes just thought that if the war wasn't happening that time, he could have more time to spend with her not just the nights, which were normally filled with love & pleasure being in bed. He heaved a sigh & made a promise to himself that after the war he would take Uttara somewhere faraway into the deep woods & spend time with her. He got out of the bed & moved towards her, he extended his hand & pulled her by her waist & held her close. He moved closer to her, so close that only a minuscule part of air could pass between their lips. Uttara closed her eyes, waiting for his lips to crash into hers, she could feel his breathing, his hands were tightening around her waist & then their lips met, they stood like that kissing each other to their heart's content for few minutes, Abhimanyu slowly moved away from her, but to his surprise for the first time Uttara stopped him & kissed him back but this time it was a bit fierce but nevertheless Abhimanyu reciprocated. After a few minutes they parted when they were both out of breath Uttara though reluctant but still she let him go.
"Kyaa hua Uttara...?" Abhimanyu asked tensed & worried for her at the same time, he gently moved the tresses of hair that fell around her face, "swapna mein...aaj..." Uttara flustered "swapna mein kyaa Uttara...?" Abhimanyu asked, "swapna mein...bhrata Uttar...bhrata Uttar ko dekha...aarya"
She lied, she couldn't get herself to say she had seen him die. "Unki bohut yaad aati hai...aarya..."& she cried, Abhimanyu pulled her into hug. Uttar had been killed on the first day of the war. Abhimanyu knew what Uttara felt, Uttar kumar & Uttara were close to each other, they would quarrel on petty things but at the end of the day one would lose knowingly for the other's happiness. As a matter of fact even he had become close to Uttar kumar, although they spent less time with each other but Uttar had become his best friend in Matsya other than his brothers whom he could confide in without any worry. Uttar had been his brother from another mother. Abhimanyu had swored revenge on those who had killed Uttar. Uttara was crying very hard, strange he thought Uttara never clearly showcased her emotions, but today she was crying freely, it stuck him odd, a doubt creeping into his mind that she had lied to him about the dream, but then he let go of it & concentrated on soothing her. "Shant ho jao Uttara..." he said, making soothing circles on her back at the same time. "Kshama aarya..." Uttara replied & moved away from him to wipe her tears. She was about to say something when trumpets roared outside announcing the sunrise & arising the soldiers to be ready for the day's battle. Uttara looked outside & said "aapko derr ho jayegi aarya...aap yudh ke liye sajj ho jayie...mein bhi snan kar aati hun..." saying this she started moving. Abhimanyu stood rooted at the spot, with each of her step Uttara's pallu that he was holding slowly slipped away from his grasp. He had a dreading sensation about it, unknown fear gripped his heart. He felt as if the time could just stop & he could just hold Uttara in his hands forever, just then the second round of trumpets blew outside. He looked one last time at the retreating figure of Uttara, with last of the pallu's remnants slipping from his hands (pallu was long...very long) he composed himself & went to get ready for the war.
