OK, keeping that aside,
Did the Pandavas necessarily have to go to a king's place to stay?
I mean, couldn't they have lived in some potter's house like last time?

King'a palace would be crowded and they can spread apart to be unidentified.. potters house was safe when no one was searching for them... that is the logic I understand..

According to this folklore, he wanted revenge for his sister. 😆
So why he destroyed Gandhari's own family..she and her husband were the only ones to weep on the 100 corpses. Does this mean he ended up taking revenge from his own 'Beloved' sister?
Huh! This point is able to discard the bloody claim alone.

Maybe he wanted to take revenge against his sister for being so mahaan and mentally torturing him by blindfolding herself & marrying Dhritarashtra.

In this aspect, I agree w/ him. Surya, for this instance @ least, I am Shakuni's devotee 😈

Methinks Surya was wondering - why couldn't the Pandavas go back to Ekachakra & hide there? Or go to Hidimbi's place & live there for the 13th year? Ghatotkacha alone could have seen to it that nobody interrupted them.

Also, if Arjun had the capability of going to Indralok, why not pick year 13 to do it? Bhima & the rest could have lived w/ Hidimbi. Bhima could have practiced wrestling & mace fighting w/ Ghatotkacha, and YNS could have quietly practiced their other fighting skills in secret, instead of playing dice, milking cows, et al

Anga was today's North Bengal. Champa was a town today in Bihar, near the Bengal border, so contiguous w/ Anga. Malini I dunno. But Anga was a large territory - starting from Dinajpur in Bengal and going north right up to Darjeeling. Magadha was the kingdom on its West.

Karna was very much in Anga when the Pandavas did their Rajasuya yagna: in fact, Bhima invaded his kingdom & subdued him.

But while I understand that in year 12, after the humiliation by the Gandharvas, Karna went on a series of conquests and undid a lot of the Pandava gains. But the bulk of the remaining 11 years, was he always @ Hastinapur? Or was he only there on the occasions that Duryodhan was plotting things against the Pandavas?

It is possible that Duryodhan included Karna in the plotting schemes whenever he came. I think Karna visited often. Or it maybe that they had an agreement - Karna builds his palace and capital close to the borders of Hastinapur and Duryodhan arranges a place where they can meet often... This way, Karna can run back to his kingdom in case of any emergency. (sounds unlikely to me as well).

All the Mahabharat series we have seen portray Karna and Duryodhan meeting in Hastinapur's palace. I am not sure if it was always like that (Karna travelling to Hastinapur all the time) or if they had any other rendezvous point. It seems like Duryodhan was relatively free to travel along with Shakuni and Dushasan - maybe he was the one who visited Karna?

Too crazy? 🤔

I never knew till now that this story wasn't part of the original text. I always thought that Shakuni was angered that his sister chose that path over his advice not to marry a blind man and hence, took the path of revenge on the Kauravas for making him feel the pain of losing his sister to them and not being able to see her live happily with someone else.

I think the rule was that they have to hide in a city / prominent city (on Earth). Neither Ghatotkacha's place or Ekachakra (or Amaravati) wouldn't have been the right choice in that case. I remember reading it somewhere (not sure if it was folklore) that the Pandavas were supposed to leave the forests and hide in any city for the 13th year.

Vibhishna.. I would assume that Shakuni and Karna visited HP as a part of their regular frequent planned get together..

Just because we find them together almost all time does not mean they dint have their family time.. same way does not mean they were not in the countries they ruled.. Just that Vyasa dint cover them.. why will he be interested in telling us what happened in Gandhara and Anga..

Was Abhimanyu really 16 years old?, any citations to support this?

I've read in this forum itself that he was older than 16.

Answer - He was 32 years (approx) during Kurekshetra. Query solved by Medha.S and Abhishek_King
