what was wrong is his public display of hatred . Dragging her to dice hall in that particular condition by dushi and disrobing was the most humiliating part which can not be forgotten and forgiven.

one more question: was karna(later in his life) ashamed of what he did to draupadi?

Karna repented his words for his whole life and when Krishna offered Draupadi to Karna telling she will also marry him Karna said she is wife of my brothers and what I said to her I won't be able to look at her eyes ever.

About the boon Mahabharata speaks about Mahadev's boon but in Shiva puran there is no such story and It feels odd to think Lord Shiva can give such curse like boon to a woman. Anyway the boon was not of getting 5 husbands but Mahadev said she will get husband who will have 5/14 qualities that she has asked for. In Mahabharata Krishna said to panchali that as it is impossible to have these qualities in one person she got 5 husbands.

I think this part is narrated in Mrityunjaya also..I ve read about the repentance of Karna for insulting Droupathy in a lovely book in Malayalam 'Ini njan urangatte' with Karna as the main protagonist.
