Bhima is my favorite character in the epic, which is why I hate this serial. I'd love to read yours.

A very thoughtful and perceptive comment, backed by detailed knowledge of the epic. It reminded of some of the upakathas that I had half forgotten, and as for the part in blue, I never knew it, so an extra thanks for that.

Yes, and it is Bhima who kills Dushshasana and gives his blood to Draupadi to wash her untied hair and fulfil her pratigya. On a lighter note, must have taken a lot of effort to get all that sticky blood out of her long tresses!

Bhima's anguish reminded of another highly underrated grief, that of Nanda after Krishna leaves Vrindavan. Everyone talks of Yashoda Maiyya, but no one ever refers to Nanda. And yet his love for his adoptive son was as deep as hers, as was his longing and sense of loss after Krishna departed.. I once heard a very emotional recital of the poem Nanda Vilaap, by Amrish Puri, and his deep baritone did justice to the lyrics.

Beautiful...The agony is more palpable since, in fact it was Bhima who was always most affected by Draupadi's distress. It was Bhima who wanted to set Yudhishthira's hands on fire after Draupadi's humiliation. In Matsya, it was he who killed Keechak.

When Draupadi wanted the saugandhika flower, it was Bhima who volunteered to get it for her.

But I am not sure whether it was really unrequited love. We never really know whether Draupadi favoured Arjuna more than the others (except for Yudhishthira's damning verdict during their Swargarohan)

I would like to believe that Draupadi did not favour anyone over the other and she did love them all equally. When Jaydrath captures her and races away with her in his chariot, and the Pandavas follow them, Draupadi describes them very eloquently and emotionally.

Go ahead.Write it please.
Weirdly this reminded me of jacob-bella-edward thing.
And i wonder why people think that draupadi loved arjuna more since i havent read any incident in the text that indicates that draupadi gave more importance to arjuna.
People just assumed since arjuna won her and she was born after drupada started wishing that if he had a daughter he could make arjuna his son-in-law.Thus, the belief that draupadi was born to marry arjuna though her birth was an accident.

Ya, sometimes I feel the same...another reason is bcoz she was angry at Arjun for marrying other women, n especially for bringing Subhadra to their home...while she was ok with the other Pandavas marrying others...
