No, just like Vidura could not be a king due to being a son of a maid, same was true about Yuyutsu. He was NOT king of any kingdom - Indraprastha, Hastinapur or anywhere.

@proud india Yuyutsu was not the king he was only the regent of Hastinapur- when a prince is minor and there is no one else who could be declared as king, a regent is appointed to govern on behalf of the prince. A regent is also the guardian of the prince, once the prince attains adulthood he's declared the king and the job of regent is finished. So yuyutsu was the regent and guardian of prince Parikshit (grandson of Arjun).
Just like Bhishma was the regent when Chitrangad and vichitravirya were young. Bhishma again acted as the regent till Pandu and Dhritrashtra grew up. And plz don't believe anything that is written in Wikipedia its not an authentic source.

you can also check the family tree of Kaurav-pandavs, had yuyutsu become the real king, his sons would have carried on the Kuru vansh, but its clearly given that Parikshit - the grand son of Arjun was the next ruler after the war, followed by his son Janmejaya

Shivpriya

Subhadra was made Parikshit's (and Vajra's) regent. Not Yuyutsu.

Resolved to retire from the world for earning merit, they brought Yuyutsu before them. Yudhishthira made over the kingdom to the son of his uncle by his Vaisya wife. Installing Parikshit also on their throne, as king, the eldest brother of the Pandavas, filled with sorrow, addressed Subhadra, saying, This son of thy son will be the king of the Kurus. The survivor of the Yadus, Vajra, has been made a king. Parikshit will rule in Hastinapura, while the Yadava prince, Vajra, will rule in Shakraprastha. He should be protected by thee. Never set thy heart on unrighteousness.'

In short, Yuyutsu was made the administrative head of the government until Parikshit came of age*. Subhadra, however, was the one in whose care Parikshit & Vajra were entrusted. Note that aside from Draupadi, all the Pandava wives stayed back w/ Subhadra, except for Uloopi & Chitrangada

The five brothers, with Draupadi forming the sixth, and a dog forming the seventh, set out on their journey. Indeed, even thus did king Yudhishthira depart, himself the head of a party of seven, from the city named after the elephant. The citizen and the ladies of the royal household followed them for some distance. None of them, however, could venture to address the king for persuading him to give up his intention. The denizens of the city then returned; Kripa and others stood around Yuyutsu as their centre. Ulupi, the daughter of the Naga chief, O thou of Kunti's race, entered the waters of Ganga. The princess Chitrangada set out for the capital of Manipura. The other ladies who were the grandmothers of Parikshit centered around him.

* Parikshit was 36 years old when he became king, so I didn't understand how he'd be just a boy, or too young to rule. Similarly baffling is him being turned over to Kripacharya - Parikshit would have gone thru gurukul while Yudhisthir ruled, and during that time, Kripacharya was solely a companion to Dhritarashtra. So Parikshit must have had some other rishi as his guru, maybe Dhaumya or someone, and then Kripa may have been reinstated to his old job as kulguru when Parikshit became king.

Another possibility is that Yuyutsu became a 'mayor' of Hastinapur, while Kripa stayed w/ him to support him, while Parikshit moved to Indraprastha w/ Subhadra & his other grandaunts & mother Uttara, and ruled the entire kingdom from there.

How would Arjun be there? Arjun, along w/ the other Pandavas & Draupadi, had left for the ultimate journey to swargalok.

I think Vikarna should have followed Yuyutsu's example & switched over. Or even otherwise, Bhima could have spared him. Vikarna was killed on day 14 when Duryodhan kept sending several of his brothers to protect Karna from Bhima, and each of them, including Vikarna, got killed. It would have been nice had Vikarna been spared. The Pandavas could have given him Hastinapur, and taken back Indraprastha.

Proud India

There is nothing anywhere about Yuyutsu dying. Chances are that he simply grew old & died, just like anyone else. He is not mentioned in the description of Parikshit's reign.
