Thanks for sharing that article, it was wonderful! Roopa had given a very powerful performance as Draupadi, and her open-mindedness and positivity regarding the new show make for a great read. Wish others involved in the publicity of contemporary mythos would adopt the same attitude of harmony between the new and old in their interactions with the media. Her advice to both the makers of the show and her successor Pooja is also very well thought out; excessive modernity in a mytho (even when it's not visual but behavioral) is, in fact, jarring for viewers. Even the tip she gave for the Cheer Haran scene made a lot of sense, for such an emotionally charged incident won't have an impact unless the person enacting it knows how their character must have felt at that moment. Here's hoping they take her advice into consideration, succeed both critically and commercially, and moreover that this inter-generational positivity persists on part of both the industry walas, the media, and the audience.

It is strange that this should come from Roopa Ganguli, who as, Draupadi who had no qualms about calling her husbands by their first names and addressing them as "tum".

I know I am in minority, but I feel Draupadi was singularly poorly portrayed in the BRC MB.

Arre that's nothing, there were much weirder anachronisms in the show as well (you yourself reminded me of "fufashree" for instance 🤣)... let's hope that if they can't be avoided, at least this show keeps them to a tolerable limit :/

Yes- the foofaashree took the cake followed by "Bhanjay..."

BTW, I don't know from where BRC got the idea of appending a "shri" behind all the relations- pitashri, matashri...Is it supposed to make it sound more Sanskritized? In that case, they could have used the original sanskrit terms as well.

  • Father was addressed as "Pitru-varya", not Pitashri.
  • Mother was addressed as "Amba" and referred to as "Mata"- there is no Matashri
  • Mother's brother was "Maatula" - not "Mamashri"
  • And there was no "Bhanjey"... It was "Bhaagney"

Aww so sweet! For me she will always be my favorite actress portraying the character of Draupadi.
