I purposely bought the dvd set as well as Peter brooks version. It takes me back to my childhood as it was something I enjoyed without fully understanding its profundity and I can't,claim to understand it wholly even now although regard it with even more appreciation to my initial viewing as a kid who was just enjoying the action, grandness, glory and even humour n it left a big impression on me since. The story itself remains current in our age of hypocrisy where we need to be reminded of duty, action and righteousness in the grim face of our commercial oriented existence. Mahabharata issues an authentic inquiry into the worth of man, what it means to be human, to exist amongst others esp through the divine Driver but also via the other characters which inhabit the Mahabharata. indeed they have captured our intrigue so much, Karna comes to mind 1st, we witness various personalities, humble to passionate to arrogant these qyalitiez not being the explicit property of just one person to another ie a blurred line exists in what constitutes a xharacter as good or bad for he/she is one of each at some point. every character has their own ideas by which they live and justify their life.
Br chopras MB teems with essential lessons and questions that is valid to every human being on this planet. The new one so far is promising, impressed by the earnest attempts of cast and set designers alike who have fabricated a world that we get to dive into every weekday. Yet like some others here I dont feel convinced by either actors for arjun n Karna roles, Pankaj dheers portrait of Karna was so genuinely poignant, solemnly enduring, visceral at times when passionate, and silently expressive, he was Karna to the t. Arjun is a major character, and looking at this actor I feel he lacks presence like actor to play Karna that ought to be generated by a man who was xonsidred to be the greatest archer but mostly closest friend of Krishna. well, will have to see.

Yes, I remember watching as a kid and then even watched re-runs & on DVD.
The show left such an impression on me that it motivated to me to study more about our religious & cultural roots.

I am excited to watch this one bcuz this is the only one that comes close to the BRC version...as also the original epic as written & occurred.

So far very impressed with Bhishm & Krishn...the two I never thought could be played so well by anybody else other than the actors in the old version.

Really looking forward...

I've watched some episodes of the old MB. Its episodes were repeated on Star utsav. Maybe still they are aired.

The old one was great and is the most successful show till date. The casting was just perfect and so were the performances. I'll surely get its DVDS in case they are available.

And I think old MB's Duryodhan is Parashuram in this new version.

Yes, i have watched the old MB and it was a classic. The actors who portrayed certain characters are etched in my mind and will remember those actors always for the characters they played.

- Mukesh Khanna as Bheesm
- Nitesh Bhardwaj as Krishna
- Pankaj Dheer as Karna
- Rupa Ganguly as Draupadi
- Puneet Issar as Duryodhan
- Arjun as Arjun
- Gufi Paintal as Shakuni
- Virendra Razdan as Vidur

Powerful performances by these actors.

The other best thing I remember is the Time/Samay which was narrating the series. Whoever did the voice was superb too.. The background of planets and stars with some kind of turning wheel was good.

I still remember the song that came in the beginning and the end.. They were awesome too.

I have seen B.R.Chopras Mahabharat.
It is nice that Star Plus has again made tremendous efforts to make Mahabharat serial and telecast it. It will be nice if this generation of children, elders etc watch Mahabharat.

I was a very small girl when Mahabharath was aired on DD. I can attribute my knowledge of Hindi to it.. I used to translate it to my parents who couldn understand Hindi back then.. Sunday mornings were fun!

Yes I saw it and till today nothing has been created to match that outstanding tv show it was not a tv serial it was a flash back of The Mahabharat and all the characters played are amar for ever it was that good. It's first episode was shown on 02 Octobor 1987 it was a holiday due to Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday.

Yes I can see a trend in India for such shows and what is really beautiful is that youth of the country are once again taking interest in our Dharm and today they are so curious that they are seeking more knowledge and discussing about the several sacred texts stories from puran and researching searching for question and I must say that today I feel so proud of our children. Well done buys please never let this thirst for knowledge be quenched ever,

One more thing the new Mahabharat is not like the old one and there are many many mistakes or over done stuff too much glamour whatever we should all remember that the old magic will never ever come but always we should encourage such shows even if they are lacking but in this mahabharat they will catch up soon and will become very nice to watch technology is not easy very difficult and sometimes you can tell it is all cartoon movie for e g when Parshuram ji comes out of cave and shivling and temple automatically is placed it was horible. But today is technology time and people do want to create so I am all for technology even if it requires a lot of work.

Let us encourage so much that people make such stuff more and more and we spread the knowledge to our youth lets all get back to our roots.

It is still the best but the new one is getting better with each passing day.

absolutely right and we shud encourage such serials
if everything is compared with old then new things will always fail and there wont be any new things and nothing to get old.

So new is mst welcome if it is good taste

beside they want to quickly reach the Mahabhart period and the serial is moving really fast therefore, after watchign old we are finding it very difficult to see the quickness of the story.

I also watch it on youtube especially the krishji scenes

mind blowing and outstanding

I have watched it many times since my teenage years.⭐️
BR Chopra's Mahabharat was amazing in its time, while starplus' Mahabharat is amazing in this time.
So I can't compare both, because it will be like comparing black and white tv with colour tv LOL! xD 😆
