Did Bhishma really did defeat Parshurama? ,Because somebody in this forum told that in the "Vyas's" Mahabharata They both had to lay their arms off and stop the fight there wasn't any result ,which one is true?

Bhishma was about to use the divine deadly weapon Praswapa when suddenly voices arose in the sky. Thereafter Narada addressed him and asked him not to use the weapon as Parashurama is an ascetic possessed of Brahma merit, and his preceptor too, never humiliate him. Bhishma hence withdrew the weapon and Parashurama admitted that he's vanquished.

The weapon had the ability to put the foe on sleep, and a warrior's sleep is considered equal to his death in the battle field.
This weapon is known to the Vasus and lord Shiva. Arjuna had it too, temporarily I guess!

Parashurama told Amba that he failed to defeat Bheeshma. So one has that right from the horse's mouth.

I know Arjuna had it but in K.M ganguly's Mahabharata Karna too had the Pashupatastra ,is it true? , I seriously doubt that he possessed it.

Yonder Karna urges forward the mighty car-warriors of the Dhartarashtras towards the son of Pritha with the weapons called Sthunakarna, Indrasjaha and Pasupata, and with clubs and other weapons.

Here it states that Arjuna had the weapon and not Karna. Is there anything else in KMG to claim whether Karna possessed the weapon or not? I guess the above quoted paragraph is the solitary one to raise such doubts.

Bheeshma was a member of Chandravansh. How 'Chandra' is associated with his dynasty? I'll be grateful if someone moves forward to elaborate.

This one is easy, if you can trace from Yayati to Bheeshma. I'll connect Chandra to Yayati.

Chandra and Tara had a son Budh. (This was rumored to be Brihaspati's Tara 😆)

Budh and King Ila had a son Pururavas. This story is narrated in the Uttarkand of Valmiki's Ramayan.

Pururavas married Urvashi, and had a son Ayus.

Ayus and Indumati had a son Nahusha. I believe that this Nahusha is different from DkDM's Nahusha - the one who married Asokasundari.

Nahusha son was Yayati. He succeeded his father, while his father went on to become devaraj, and then a snake, b4 capturing Bhima in his coils and having a great discussion w/ Yudisthir about castes b4 setting Bhima free.

Yayati's youngest son from Sharmistha was Puru, who was the ancestor of Hasti, the founder of Hastinapur.

Another ancestor of Bheeshma along that line was Kuru, from where the family got its name.

I read that Yayati became old due to Shukracharya's curse. Then he exchanged his old age with his younger son Puru's youth.
The elder one i.e. Yadu was the ancestor of Yadavas.
Puru became the ancestor of the Kuru dynasty.

Riksha was son born from Ajamidh. Then Samvaran-Tapti> Kuru-Saudamini

Kuru got bored of his mortal life and desired to make his name immortal. He went to a sacred place called Samantpanchak and decided to cultivate the 8 virtues on its barren land. The golden plough used by him was pulled by lord Shiva's bull and Yamraj's buffalo.
Once Indra approached and questions about his intentions behind it. On hearing the reply, Indra made fun of him and moved away. Thereafter lord Vishnu himself arrived and questioned the same. Kuru replied that the 8 virtues were present in his body and it won't be difficult to cultivate them. He then offered his own body as a sacrifice to lord. Lord Vishnu was pleased and asked him to demand anything. Kuru expressed his desire that the area cultivated him should become a pilgrimage and the devotees who die here..must attain salvation. This is how 'Kurukshetra' came into existence.

Kuru's sons: Parikshi, Sudhanu, Jahnu, Nishadh

Sudhanu>Suhotra>Chyavan>Kriti>Vasu
Vasu's sons: Brihadrath, Kushamb, Matsya, Pratyagra, Chedip and others.

Brihadrath>Kushagra>Rishabh>Satyahit>Pushpvan>Jahu
- Brihadrath's second wife had a son born in two parts. Demoness Jara united the parts and the son called Jarasandh was born.

Jarasandh>Sahadev>Somapi>Shrutashrava

Parikshi was childless, Jahnu had a son named Surath.

Surath>Vidurath>Sarvabhaum>Jayasen>Radhik>Ayutayu>Akrodhan>Devtithi>Riksh>Dilip>Pratip>Shantanu

🥳😆

Bhanumati was princess of Trigartha, & sister of Sushama (enemy of Virata). From what I understand, her marriage was arranged, and led to a matrimonial alliance b/w the 2. Trigartha would have been somewhere in Rajputana - maybe in the Amber/Jaipur/Ranthambor area, for them to be @ loggerheads w/ Matsya. Bhanumati was also mother of Laxman & Laxmanaa. Former was a son killed by Abhimanyu shortly b4 his death, while latter was a daughter abducted from her swayamvara by Jambavati's son Samba.

Duryodhan had at least 2 wives. If Bhanumati was the first, he probably married her shortly after the tournament. Karna helped him abduct another princess of Kalinga, daughter of king Chitrasena. Check out section 4 of Shanti Parva for details.

All the other 99 brothers had wives - maybe 1, maybe more. All of them lived on as widows in Hastinapur under Yudisthir.

Oh Thanks a lot.

Super Knowledge ...Must say.

You always know answer of each question.

So there was also role of Rajputana in Mahabharat. Great. Something new to know.

I hope to see Bhanumati in this MB.

So Virat was enemy of Kaurava & Freiend of Pandava because dushman ka dushman dost😃

Karn helped Duryodhan to marry Princess of Kalinga??

Who killed Lakshman in war?

Also Lakshmanaa was married to Samba so Krishna & Duryodhan became in relation ??

Was Samba fought in war ??

Abhimanyu killed Lakshmana on the 13th day.

Samba married Lakshmanaa, so Krishna and Duryodhan were relatives.

I don't think Samba fought in the war.
He was the one who had mocked some sages, thus sowing the seeds of the downfall of Yadava clan.

Shruti, you pretty much filled up the blanks. And thanks for answering Proud India's questions - the answers were pretty much correct. Samba died in the Yadava fratricide - took no part in the Kurukshetra war.

Yayati's other 3 sons aside from Yadu & Puru - any notable dynasties that followed them?
