We all cried at the same time on the sets: Lavanya Bhardwaj

Tejashree Bhopatkar,TNN | Apr 30, 2014, 05.11 PM IST

We all cried at the same time on the sets: Lavanya Bhardwaj
Lavanya Bharadwaj
Actor Lavanya Bharadwaj, who plays the role of Sahadev in Siddharth Kumar Tewary's Mahabharat, shares a great bonding with his on screen brothers who play the Pandavas.

Talking about the bonding, Lavanya says, "It's been a quite some time since we all are shooting together and it's a great experience. Initially when I started shooting, I used to think a lot. Sahadev's role for me was a completely new approach and while doing group scenes I used to discuss each scene with them but now it is much easier portraying Sahadev. I don't have to pretend to be him. The character comes out automatically."

Lavanya also notices one change in him as he adds, "While portraying Sahadev, I have developed a lot of patience and I sense the future which is a great discovery."
Lavanya also shares an interesting incident which happened recently during Draupadi'svastraharan scene. Lavanya shares, "When the director asked us to give a very emotional expression, all the brothers started crying at the same time."

Akhilendra Mishra to enter Mahabharat

Akhilendra Mishra to enter Mahabharat

Akhilendra Mishra

The battle of Kurukshetra is all set to surface in Star Plus' magnum opus Mahabharat. After a lot of hullabaloo during Draupadi's vastraharan, the story will take a turn and will focus on the story of lord Krishna in particular. The viewers will get to witness the chapter of Krishna's maternal uncle Kans in the epic.

And to do justice to the character of Kans, the makers (Siddharth Kumar Tewary) have roped in seasoned actor Akhilendra Mishra who is better know for his character of Krur Singh from one of the longest running fantasy shows, Chandrakanta. Akhilendra has immensely contributed to Bollywood by acting in films like Lagaan and Ready to name a few.

Akhilendra will play Kans in Mahabharat after playing dynamic roles like Krur Singh and Raavan in Chandrakanta and Ramayan respectively.

"I find myself one of those lucky actors, who has lived the lives of many characters," observed Akhilendra.
He further shared, "I am the lucky one who is always offered good roles."

We too hear that the legendary Kurukshetra battle will air in the month of June 2014 and in July 2014, when the show will bid adieu to its audiences.

Preeti Puri Choudhary in Star Plus' Mahabharat
Star Plus' Mahabharat (Swastik Productions) will present the tale of Lord Krishna before embarking on the journey of the real war between the Pandavs and the Kauravs.

After reports of Akhilendra Mishra being roped in to play Kans, Krishna's mama, here comes more details on the show. The very talented Preeti Puri Choudhary (last seen in Aaj Ki Housewife Hai...Sab Jaanti Hai) is all set to play Krishna's mother Devki in the magnum opus.

Being her first mythological show, Preeti sounded excited and shared, "Mahabharat is such a popular show and I am really looking forward for my character to roll. The set is huge and it's a wonderfully different experience altogether. Currently we are shooting for the jail sequences, so I am dressed in light clothes. But when I'll shoot for the maharani' avatar, it will take a toll in this hot weather for I will be decked in heavy jewellery."

The actress has already started shooting and her character will hit screens sometime next week.

Gear up to enjoy the Krishna tale in the coming episodes of Mahabharat.

*Interview* Vin Rana talks "Mahabharat" and more!

Star Plus' Mahabharat has been generating a lot of buzz since it first aired on TV a few months ago. The fan following for the show is strong and the show has received praise for its depiction of the epic, the cast, and also for its performances. I had a chance to catch up with Vin Rana, who plays the role of "Nakul," who is one of the twins (Nakul and Sahadev) born to Madri by the Ashwini Kumars blessing. Nakul is traditionally known as the most handsome of all the Pandava sons, and there is no doubt they found the perfect Nakul in Vin. Vin began work at the age of 16 as a service engineer and then broke into modeling. He owns a business in Delhi, and of course, is also now a popular television actor. Mahabharat is his television debut as an actor. Vin has been appreciated by audiences around the world for his looks as well as his believable portrayal of "Nakul." We spoke about his career and his journey thus far in the industry. Read on below for details!

1900019_827838957243174_254641434_nRoopa: Mahabharat is your television debut! Were you worried as to how audiences would react to your acting? Why did you opt to join an epic saga as opposed to another television soap?

Vin: Well, I was completely new to this industry. I was a bit nervous, but was confident at the same time. I knew that I have to give my 100%! I got positive responses from the very first episode, and I am happy that people accepted me and my character! I had few opportunities, but when I got to know the level of this show, and about my character in the show, got excited and agreed to do it! You can't compare this show to the normal daily soaps because it is a completely different thing, and is much tougher! Anyone can do easy things, and I wanted to do the toughest one!

Roopa: In Star Plus' Mahabharat you play Nakul, who is known to be the best looking from the Pandavas. How were you selected for the role? What made you want to audition for Nakul?

Vin: They called me through some social networking site, and after my "look test" the channel wanted me to play this role. I was not ready [to say yes at] that time. I took 3 months to think, but when I was described my character from the producers, I felt I should do this.

Roopa: What did you do to prepare for your role? Have you seen the older versions of Mahabharat and/or read the book?

Vin: I attended action and acting workshops for almost a year, which were organized by the production house. I also learnt horse riding, sword fighting, etc, and used to read about Mahabharat and my character in books and the Internet. It helped me a lot.

1382070_10151972130006425_1573229906_nRoopa: After BR Chopra's Mahabharat released, every Mahabharat version made has been compared to it. Were you nervous that this version would not be accepted by audiences? What made you want to agree to be part of this epic, and are you pleased with your decision to join the cast? Why do you think this version has resonated so well with audiences?

Vin: This Mahabharat is totally different from the older ones. Nakul and Sahadev were just names in B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat, but they have been given equal importance to all the characters in this version. When I was told about the character, I felt I should do it, and I am really happy about my decision. I feel lucky to be a part of the biggest tv show. We always wanted that our show should be popular with the youth. We are getting 80% response from the youth worldwide. I think the way they are portraying the show is totally different and that's what's attracting people and making the show popular worldwide.

Roopa: In the Mahabharat, the Gods gave Boons to those who prayed to them. So, if you could get a boon from a God, what would you pick? The Panadavas were born by blessings from the Gods. If you could pick any God to give you a child, whom would you pick? Would you pick the Ashwini Kumars (these were the Gods Madri picked to get her twin sons Nakul and Sahadev)? :-)

Vin: If I would get a chance to pick a boon, I would make a wish to see the world - that's my dream! I want this dream to come true asap!

Well, I would pick Hanumanji and ask for a child powerful like Bheem, intelligent like Sahadev, and handsome like me (*laughs*)

Roopa: What is your relationship like with the rest of the actors who play the Pandavas? Are you very close in real life too? Are you friends with the guys who play the Kauravas or with Karan?

Vin: I am quite friendly kind of person, so I am friends with everyone in my cast! But, we five are totally different and we are not less than the real brothers! We do lots of fun things together on and off set!

vin-ranaRoopa: This version of the Mahabharat relies a lot on CG effects. How difficult is it to shoot for a show where a lot of the set is not actually visible? How long do most of the shoots take? Which scene has been the most challenging to film and which has been your most favorite?

All the CG effects shots are being shot on croma, and sometimes you have to pretend things are around you which are not visible! It used to be difficult before, but becomes very easy now - that's what acting is! I love all my scenes especially the humorous ones with Bheem! The action scenes are always challenging and difficult to perform! You have to perform the scenes wearing heavy costumes from which sometimes you are attached to a harness, plus, have to perform with the heavy weapon, and at the same time, it should look effort less!

Roopa: You began your career in modeling. How different do you find the world of acting, or has it been an easy transition for you? Where do you see yourself going in the world of acting?

Vin: There's a lot of difference between modeling and acting because it's not necessary that every good model can be a good actor. The only thing that helps you is that you become camera friendly. I don't really know what is going to happen after this show. I just hope I get something which I deserve.

Roopa: I've read that you are actually an engineer. So, what made you enter the world of modeling and acting? What was your family's reaction? What do they think of your acting on Mahabharat?

Vin: I was running my business happily, and then suddenly from social networking I got some modelling offer and started doing it! I was getting good response for my modeling also, but I used to take it as my hobby. That's how I entered into modeling. My family is very supportive and just want me to do well in life - field doesn't matter!

image (1)Roopa: Many television stars are being recognized in Bollywood these days. So, if you were able to transition to Bollywood, which directors would you really want to work with? Which actresses would you want to be cast opposite?

Vin: I would love to work with the directors like Anurag Kashyap and Sanjay Leela Bhansali! I would love to be cast opposite pretty faces like Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, and Deepika Padukone.

Roopa: Did you get to travel a lot as a model? Have you had a chance to visit the US? US is beginning to really accept more Indian actors. So, if you could transition to Hollywood, would you?

Vin: Being a model, I have been traveled a lot, but never been to US although I really want to visit! If I get a chance to be a part of Hollywood then would definitely love to be, cause who doesn't like to be called a Hollywood actor!!!

Roopa: Any other message for your fans or advice to those wanting to break into the industry?

Vin: I just want to thank each of my fans for the love they are showing to me! I am addicted to their love, so keep loving me like this! I am because you are. Well, I am a new comer myself, but what I have experienced from my life till now is to keep working hard you will definitely get what you deserve! You never know how close you are to your aim.

I just hope my wife doesn't kill me: Arpit Ranka

I just hope my wife doesn't kill me: Arpit Ranka
Arpit Ranka

Excerpts from the interview of Rajasthani Boy Arpit Ranka, who plays Duryodhan in Star Plus' magnum opus Mahabharat.

How did you become an actor?
After winning the best body title in Gladrags I did modeling and then did 10 Tamil and Telugu films. When I got the role of Duryodhan I was a little reluctant as I didn't want to do television at that point of time. But after meeting Siddharth Kumar Tewary and the creative team I got to know the grandeur of this show and was lucky to be selected for Duryodhan.

But why Duryodhan?
I think Duryodhan is the most powerful character of Mahabharat and I feel that I've certain qualities of Duryodhan. Whatever Duryodhan has done he has a reason for that. Maybe I would have reacted the same way like Duryodhan. He is a wonderful friend and a very caring brother in the family. Like him I also have an ego. So I am enjoying a lot playing the character.

How did you prepare for the look?
In the South film industry people are very particular about their physique and long hair so I don't have to do anything extra on my looks. I have done a lot of research on Duryodhan and went with the inputs from the creative team.

Aren't girls afraid of you now? Oh No (laughs). Infact, I'm enjoying the attention that the girls are showering on me. I just hope my wife doesn't kill me for this. But on a serious note I respect women a lot in real life.

What do you have to say about the show & your popularity?
This series has made its own unique space in the minds of the viewers. I feel blessed to be part of Mahabharat. Where ever I go people now recognize me. I've even become very popular in my hometown Jaipur. A good show makes a lot of difference in one's career.

http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/Bringing-Draupadi-Alive/2014/04/25/article2187174.ece1

Even as Draupadi has always remained a subject of interest, the on-going show Mahabharat on Star plus has come up with a new avatar of this powerful character played by the bold and beautiful Delhi-based girl Pooja Sharma.

Pooja, who is playing the fiery queen of the five Pandavas in Mahabharat, recently enacted the scene of Vastraharan with immense conviction which earned her critical acclaim. She gives the credit to makers of Mahabharat and feels the act took her to another level. While shooting and after the scene, she felt empowered.

Times may have changed, but the position of woman in the society has not changed and there is so much that we can learn from Draupadi's character. As an actor she finds it interesting to play the role of Draupadi because she relates to the character. The actor enjoys the role but when it comes to the makeup, it takes her at least two and half hours to get ready for a shot.

Another difficulty that not only Pooja but all the actors of the serial are facing is to converse in shuddh' Hindi. Laughing over it, she said the Pandavas call each other bhratashree even when they are not shooting. When the model-turned actor Pooja got a call for auditions, she decided to give it a shot. Once in Draupadi's costume, she felt connected to the character. Her joy knew no bounds when she got a call confirming her selection.

Pooja considers herself lucky for getting the role. The actress says, 'it's been a life changing experience for me and I give the credit to my father for supporting me.''

Thanks @megha..

Playing Krishna wasn't a challenge for me: Saurabh Raj Jain
.
Playing Krishna wasn't a challenge for me: Saurabh Raj Jain
Saurabh Raj Jain

Confident about his craft, TV actor Saurabh Raj Jain, who plays Lord Krishna in mythological drama "Mahabharat", says he didn't find the role challenging because he was focused and didn't get distracted by comparisons.

"People were fixated to certain characters they played. What matters to me is the role I am given and how convincingly I portray the character on the screen. I don't think about being compared to the actors who portrayed Krishna before. Playing Krishna was not a challenge," Saurabh told IANS on the sets of the show.

Decked up in heavy jewellery and yellow coloured costume, the tall actor sat down for the group interview on the Hastinapur Darbar set after giving a shot with his co-star Pooja Sharma (Draupadi).

Although the sets are erected near the beach here, it was quite hot and the actor quenched his thirst before he started fielding questions.

The 32-year-old said that the new "Mahabharat" is different from the one directed by BR Chopra 20 years ago in which Nitish Bhardwaj had played Krishna.

"It was a different time and age. The technology is much more advanced now with cutting edge computer graphics. The scripts are also more detailed. Our team has made an effort to tell the story in a different manner," he said.

This is the third time Saurabh is seen in a mythological drama, following his role as Vishnu in "Jai Shri Krishna" and "Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev".

Taling about his character, he said: "The element that describes Krishna best is water. Just like water everything about Krishna is calm and serene... Whatever he says has a rhythm to it. This was something I had to work on. While, I got into the practice of talking like Krishna after a certain period of time and also perfected the gestures and movements with practice."

Why a mythological show?
"Why not? I have done fictional shows in the past. When the character is well written and has substance, it does not matter whether the show is fictional or not," said the actor seen in shows like "Parichay" and "Uttaran".

He is not afraid of being stereotyped.
"There is no stereotyping now. It used to happen years ago when there weren't many channels and people would get stereotyped in one particular look. Nowadays, we have a lot of channels and hence a lot of opportunities for everyone to broaden their horizons."

Saurabh along with his co-stars shoots in the humid climate fully loaded with costume, jewellery and sometimes weapons. Although they dress up in an air-conditioned room, they have to shoot in the hot and humid weather.

But weather conditions have not taken a toll on the actor.
"It's very hot here in Umargaon, but this is part of work. Our job is to entertain our viewers and we enjoy doing it. We have shot a sequence where the war is about to begin but Krishna is making efforts to stop the war and approaches the Kauravs and Pandaavs with a peace proposal," said the actor.

He is contented with the audience's response.
"People are liking my work and have appreciated it. They love getting photographs clicked with 'Krishna'."

Asked about his craft, Saurabh said he attended actor-director Rajat Kapoor's workshops to hone his acting skills and even read a lot of books.

"Rajat Kapoor had conducted workshops, which I had attended whenever I had the time. I also read a lot of books by different authors with different interpretations and points of view like 'Palaces Of Illusion', 'Jaya' and 'Difficulty Of Being Good'."

When asked about his bonding with co-stars, the actor said, "We are all united like a family. It is our second home."

Of course, there is a spiritual side to his personality.

"I do not worship any one deity in particular. I don't know whether I am religious/spiritual or not but I know I'm somewhere connected to god," said Saurabh.
