Back in my room, I fell back on my bed with my hands extended along the length of the bed and legs folded up. My heart was pounding. I felt my lips. They felt soft and a tad injured. He had been sucking them wildly. Blushing like an idiot, I pulled the blanket and switched off the lights.
Next morning, there was no message or call from him. I felt odd. Today, while jogging, I felt different. As if the entire world was gazing me. As if I was the show stopper in the pageant of life. My iPod played peppy songs as I jogged along the normal route and returned back before Stacy came in. I was early and felt proud. A feeling of self-sustained crept mind and I made myself a hot cup of coffee. Sitting down with the newspaper, I waited for Stacy to come in. She entered the apartment sharp at 7 and took over the charge of the house. I handed over the empty coffee mug and asked her to do the dishes while I had a shower. Dressed in a white linen formal shirt, I wore a black overcoat and came out. "You look amazing today mam!", Stacy smiled as she laid the breakfast for me. After eating, I gave her the instructions for the day and grabbing my keys I made my way to my car. The day was bright and beautiful. I blushed seeing the leaves quiver.
Pushing the gas pedal, I started for my office. I hummed the music as it played on the radios. It was a peaceful drive with strangely sparse traffic. I was in my office before 9. I checked with the receptionist and there was no message for me. I felt Meh! He hadn't spoken since last night. My lips curved into a smile thinking of last night. My trainees were already seated in their desks and waiting for me. I mouthed them to come and meet me in the office.
"Morning Mam!", Aaron came in first, followed by the two girls. I raised a brow to him. He face palmed. "I am sorry, MD".
"MD, this is yesterday's report.", Mia handed over a bundle of papers. I clipped them into the urgent section and pressing back on my chair, I spoke.
"We have this International Summit of Chief Justices commencing next week. And for the opening and closing ceremony, we have been given VIP Media Passes."
"That is exciting."
"So, along with me, Maria Mam will be taking her trainees and Adam Sir will take his. I want all of you to co-ordinate and tell me who is going to accompany me for what. We will have the passes for 4 days straight."
"MD, we'd let you know before evening.", Caroline said.
"Alright guys. But remember, I have a reputation to maintain. Don't commit to anything which you yourself are not sure about.", I smiled and excused them to leave. Grabbing yesterday's reports, I took my highlighters and started going through them.
Ri joined me an hour later. "Hey!", she hugged me with one hand. I smiled, "Hi Ri!"
"Came to know about the Chief Justices thingy?"
"Yep. What is the agenda of discussion?", I asked.
"Basically, unconventional sources of car fuel"
"Same old discussions.", I sighed.
"Yup."
"Society needs to grow up and choose more mature topics of discussions"
"Hmm..."
Ri's phone buzzed. "Any developments?", she asked. "Alright. I am coming. Hang on there.", she pressed the end button and rushed out. I was preoccupied with something so I just concentrated on that. My phone's battery went dead and it turned off. I asked around for a charger but there was none. Keeping my phone in my purse, I continued with the paper articles. Ri didn't turn up that entire day.
At around 7, I packed my stuff and started for home. I was dead tired and wanted sleep. In the car, I put my phone to charge. The traffic was sparse and I reached back home early.
*~*~*~*~*~*
I pushed the key inside the lock panel but realised that it was already open. Stacy must be still inside. I opened the door and lazily walked in. "Where the hell have you been!", a voice roared from the kitchen area. RK. I gasped and turned to him. He was in his office apparel and looking at me fiercely. "I went to the office.", I replied softly. He walked up to me and held my shoulders, "And your phone?". I sighed at my stupidity. "I forgot to charge it, and it shut down in the morning.", I told him. He eased out. "You ought to keep your phone in a charged state.", he still growled. "I am sorry RK.", I dropped my head down. "I thought you didn't want to speak to me after you know, last night.", I stole a glimpse. He was disturbed, because of me. I sighed. "I called your receptionist and she was unavailable too.", he said. "Yes, she had taken an off. She fell sick.", he sighed heavily. Loosening his tie, he fell back on the sofa and tilted his head on the back rest. I sat on the other couch keeping my purse aside. After a moment, he opened his eyes, "Such things happen.", he didn't make an eye-contact. "What?", I had been gazing at the portraits on my wall and as he spoke, I turned to him. "You haven't been listening?", he looked at me. "No. I am, tell me!", I turned myself in his direction completely. "Stacy. Could you give us a minute.", he turned and ordered. For the first time, I looked at Stacy. She had been so quiet all this while that her presence had been oblivious. "Yes, Sir.", she smiled and went in the balcony.
"So, as I was mentioning that stuff like last night happen.", he breathed heavily. I felt uneasy as he mentioned the kiss. My heart raced up. "It was nothing...", he was more of explaining to himself than trying to ease me out. I sucked my lips inside. "But, what you did today was really unethical?", he stared back at me. I wondered, "What the hell was so *unethical* about it?". But I kept looking at him as if I was listening to him carefully. "I'll leave.", he suddenly got up and picked his coat. I stood up, taken by surprise. "You're leaving?", I asked.
"Yes. Why?", he turned back to face me.
"Nothing much, I thought you'd stay"
"Another day. I have something to do."
"Ohh...", I was disappointed. Every nerve of my body had suddenly started wanting him near me every second.
Walking ahead for a few steps, he turned back again. "I forgot to inform. I am going to Toronto tomorrow."
"TOMORROW?", I raised my voice in surprise.
"Yup.", he answered.
"When are you returning?"
"In 10 days."
"Ohh, that is long!", I murmured.
"I'll try to finish the work as soon as I can."
"Sure. Good luck.", I faked a smile.
"I'll drop you at the airport??", I offered. He looked at me. "Will is going to be there."
"I know. But I want to?", I smiled.
He thought for a while, "alright. The flight is at 10PM."
"Cool, I'll pick you up at 8:00. We can have dinner?", I asked hoping he would say yes.
"Hmm..", he nodded and left.
