I have been heartbroken since yesterday's episode. How could AS and Co. show the hero rape his wife? Yes he was under influence but rape is still rape. 😕😭😭
Currently two scenarios present itself from this Balatkar track:
1) Raja did Rape JM - Proved with evidence
2) JM Falsifies Rape charges against her
Both of the above scenarios are totally and completely unacceptable. We can't have a love story develop between a rapist and his victim. A victim can't ever forget the face of her rapist and what he did to her. She can't ever even THINK to be in his presence.
Likewise, an innocent man accused of such a heinous crime as rape can't ever be around his accuser. What's to keep her from accusing him again? There can be no trust between them let alone love.
Both scenarios above sends a horrid message to the public. Though the show is reel, television is a powerful medium. It is widely watched and influences young, impressionable minds. We CANNOT have the young ones think it's okay for a man to rape his wife nor can do we want them to think that rape victims LIE about their rape. Already many rape victims do not report their perpetrators. We can't have a powerful medium such as television further encourage them to not report their rapist. Nor do we need people to question rape victims and their validity. Especially not in a country such as India when it is already struggling with addressing violence against women.
So I see only one way out of this tenuous situation. Let the whole rape track be one elaborate Dream Sequence. Raja can get drunk as per the show but then he slips into deep slumber and dreams up the rape track.
He wakes up startled from his dream, completely shaken. He questions himself, his faith, his upbringing and even his own family. Raja will think about JM's last words that she will not love him even if he changes and definitely not in this lifetime. So Raja can go back to their room and tell her the bet is off and he is setting her free. She can go or stay, whatever she pleases.
JM will then go back to the chawl to her Deeda and Bittuji. She will learn about Rishbala, their death and Kapoors family involvement in their deaths. And this knowledge alone will be the starting point for the change in JM and her feelings for Raja. (Well you all can think of the rest of the story, I haven't gone that far ahead.) 😃
I enjoy a good, thrilling, Clash of the Titans, love-hate story. But raping a girl or falsely accusing an innocent man of rape can't ever be called love. It's just hate, pure simple hatred. The show is about ishq and junoon that thrills audience and keeps us at the edge of our seats, not make us gag in disgust.
P.S. - I am desperately grasping at straws at a one last attempt to salvage my beloved MEIEJ, my broken heart and my sanity. Please don't bash. 😳
