protagonists' makeovers seem to
have become an essential
ingredient to grab attention and
spice things up. In Madhubala...
Vivian Dsena has undergone three
makeovers playing new characters
each time; in Bani Ishq Da Kalma,
Main Na Bhoolungi and Chidiya Ghar
the protagonists got glam
makeovers; in Qubool Hai, MEIEJ and
Pavitra Rishta the female
protagonists who are playing their
own daughters and granddaughters
respectively have a different 'look';
in Sasural Simar Ka and Sapne
Suhane Ladakpan Ke, the urban
bahus turn gaon ke goris " all for a
dramatic twist. Justifying the need
for makeovers, producer Yash
Patnaik says, "In some shows
makeovers are done to renew
audiences' interest in their loved
characters and sometimes they are
done to take the story forward. In
Main Na Bhoolungi with Aishwarya's
makeover we've come to the main
story."

How do actors feel about their reel
makeovers in the same show?
Roopal Tyagi shares, "It's fantastic to
get to play different characters in the
same shows. Emotionally it may be
taxing at times but in the long run
it's worth it." Vivian admits that as an
actor, "It is extremely challenging.
What I am playing right now is
diametrically different from what
I've done before." Considering the
makeovers are done to infuse
renewed interest in the existing
storyline, once if they achieve the
desired eyeballs, then makeover
mode which includes lots of sweat, a
new wardrobe and greasepaint (not
in that order) from the protagonists
become more than justified. If the
much touted makeovers don't work,
then it's time for another twist in the
kahani.
Smart mom to desi beti As a part of
a leap, Ankita Lokhande is playing
her grand-daughter. In the initial
phase of the leap, she even sported
a nice hair-do with front flips and
kurtis and jeans. Now in her married
avatar she's got a sindoor-
mangalsutra look.
A recent generation leap in Qubool
Hai, has ensured that Surbhi Jyoti
didn't have to play momma on
screen. In order to retain her in the
show " the producers have
transformed her to a shy Sanam who
owns a dhaba and is Zoya's daughter.
While mommie Zoya was a tech-
savvy NRI chick who swore by her
pizza, coke and Allahmiyan, beti
Sanam is a small town girl clad in
demure salwar kurtas complete with
front bangs .
ALSSuperstar to special child After
playing an arrogant filmstar and a
village bumpkin in Madhubala Ek
Ishq Ek Junoon, Vivian Dsena is
currently playing a mentally
challenged character who dresses up
like a boy and has a clumsy body
language.
