Okay that was not the point of your post.. sorry... couldn't control.. carry on...

😆 Maria 🤗

Jaime, Daenerys, and then Jon, Tyrion and Arya.😳

And GRRM isn't in Tolien's league for me.Tolkien is way less overdosed on depression.😊

My point was that for any great twist to be good writing, it has to *not* devalue previous developments. The unwedding twist didn't manage that.
They needed to do completely different scenes as flashback, since there was not even a slightly conflicted moment from RK even when he was completely alone during all the previous months of 'love-fest' episodes.😕
The unwedding, I can watch for the great performances. But for any sense in the planning or writing of that twist, no.

I understand what you're saying Leela. The fault is in the writing and execution. It is a known fan that there is nothing the power cannot achieve... but there is also nothing bad writing and execution cannot ruin.

The unwedding twist was awesome as an idea... but yes... as you said... there was little and clunky groundwork to it. The foundation of it was weak. I loved it anyway... 😆 ... because I ignored that part. I just thought... at least they tried na! But yeah... I hear you!

Exactly.⭐️
Ekta Kapoor has had the kind of plots from March 2013 onwards, and those were TRP-hits in her serials because care was always taken that the male lead and female lead should get sympathy, and that their dignity should be maintained at all costs.

Even the 'hero suddenly naajaayaz' track was done focussing sympathetically on the male lead's anguish at his father's character-revelation, the female lead prioritizing her husband and mother-in-law rather than thinking of the rights of the other guy and his mother, and the revelation never becoming publicly announced to embarrass the male lead.
Here they did everything to get sympathy for the other guy instead, with Madhu crusading for the other woman's rights, and suddenly inexplicably and uncharacteristically totally insensitive to her husband's and mother-in-law's feelings and prestige.
It was guaranteed to make Madhu disapproved by majority-audience. Likewise with the other track-angles before and after.

Majority-audience's reactions have been so consistent for track-factors in a decade and more that you can usually say within the first few episodes how well or badly a track will do if certain specific developments are included or not.

Here, every consecutive track from March onwards was the same as in those serials, but with only one difference - the male lead was either bad or weak or helpless, either the other guy or the female lead being intended to get sympathy or appreciation from the mass-audience.
If you want to test a character's popularity, have a track where all the characters turn against that character, either disapprovingly or outright denigratingly.
All the characters, for every episode for at least a month.
If despite that character's lacks being mentioned constantly, the majority-audience watches that character's scenes, but may switch during scenes of that character being badmouthed or illtreated, then you have the majority-audience's chord to hold to the series.
In MEIEJ, they have done it repeatedly with RK, and not even once with Madhu.
Whereas it is usually done for the female lead in serials, and only once or twice for the male lead - thereby letting the channel, the PH and sponsors see exactly whom the majority-audience supports most and will condone exponentially within the story of a series.
Padmini lost out the worst from being used as spokesperson to denigrate RK - the gambit didn't work, and her role was corroded.

Oh Leela ... I wish you were working for NF!

You understand everything so well.. and better... you explain everything so nicely! It's always a pleasure reading your posts!

And coming to the point.. I see what you mean. And I couldn't agree more. They need to deal with the lost audience most cautiously. I hope they work on the writing and execution at least now. AS is giving the show his attention. Let's hope for the best. Let's hope what ST couldn't do... AS will be able to achieve.. in fact he has already achieved some of it by bringing VD back and that is the loyalty and appreciation from the audience.

Ahh!!! Those are my favorites too! The order keeps changing though. But Tyrion is always there. He is the best. I loved Eddard also. But I knew he will die so... yeah! He was too honorable for Westeros. 😆

Ohh! Did you cry when your read about the Red Wedding? Now that was a twist!

Haha... I just love Tolkien because I read him for years. I love Lord of the Rings. Have read and seen it many times. GRRM is actually the new age Tolkien. He likes taking risks. He is... oh God! He is like my favorite favorite writer!!!! ASOIAF is a lot darker than LOTR and is definitely not for kids.

About unwedding.. yeah the clunks are there in the foundation... but oh well.. still better than a lot of things we later saw in MEIEJ. 😆

Hi, Trupti.🤗

Maria, thanks for the excessive compliment. Undeserved compliments are always the loveliest and hugest.😆 😳 🤗
But seriously, NF's writing was superb right until they went for the 'unique' and did the unwedding. They hadn't done enough groundwork and backstory in the preceding episodes to carry it through as good writing.

Anki, not really having much hope for a filmworld backdrop.
If they do it with less than 3+ TRP, there will be a huge amount of compromise on presentation likely.
It would probably make last year's film-track look like a deluxe presentation.
But if they get the TRP to 3+ and don't have the wife shining and the husband overshadowed - whether he is in the same profession or not - then we might have a chance.
But considering the backfiring way they always miscalculate majority-audience's reactions to the past so many track for especially the past 8-9 months, and expect appreciation where lack thereof is expectable from the track-record of consistent viewership reactions for over two decades, not really expecting it.
A million people are not likely to change their tastes to make a track-continuance possible. And several million viewers to watch in India at primetime if they find what is being shown either distasteful or disinteresting, really not likely.
You can't expect millions of viewers to change their tastes, you have to change your tracks to suit those tastes so that your episodes and track get watched in adequate numbers to permit the track to continue.
And majority of those millions of crucially appreciated viewers are not fandoms. They won't congregate or complain that they don't like something. They will simply not watch, and it's enough to get tracks modified or closed. The sheer expense-scale runs into lakhs and crores each week - trying to forcefeed millions of the mass-audience against their preferences is too damn expensive in its rejection-consequences.

Yeah!!! Padmini's character assassination! God.. they ruined everything just to white wash a certain character who stood against RK and that too on a clunky ground.

I am just hoping AS has learned from these blunders...
