TRP News: MB TRPs went down to approx. 2.1, an 8% decrease (TVTs went to 4,157 from 4,519 the week prior.) However, MB's position showed an improvement, and is now at #15, compared to #16 the week before.
All the top 15 shows (except for SC) showed a decrease in TRPs over the prior week. On average, other shows decreased approx. 11%, vs. MB decrease of 8%. As Leela said, the decrease could be a result of multiple factors - the festival season, as well as the cyclone. Not to forget that last week's MB episodes were dominated by pessimism (although there were some good episodes), and it would be interesting to look at the daily TRPs when they become available.
The general declining trend in Madhubala TRPs shows that the current track has not gained viewers for the show over and beyond the core audience that already watches the show. There could be combination of several reasons - execution of storyline, a Pabbho who infuses negativity into the show, and the constant tinkering with the characterization of the leads, especially RK.
Weekly TRP trends are below (note: data converted from TVTs to TRPs so that we could have consistent comparison points. This is a rough inexact conversion and may not match to the second decimal place with other estimates due to minor differences in conversion methodology)
Note: Data converted from TVTs to TRPs from week 31 onwards. Does not take into consideration impact of adding new markets at various points. Size of these markets, viewing patterns, demographics, level of digitization etc. of those markets would impact TRPs. Also, hard to judge IPL's exact impact.
The two charts below show: 1) Top 15 shows TRPs and 2) TRP increase/drop for those shows, compared to the week prior. The blue bars on the second chart are the ones that did better, the red are the ones that did worse, and the no bars are the ones that were the same.
Note: this is a rough analysis. Please feel free to point out any holes .
