"You gave me the gift of surprise and I think you deserve one in return," RK spoke coldly as he lit a lighter.

"What are you doing RK?!" Madhu looked on.

Before any more words could be spoken, Madhu watched the divorce papers burning in RK's hands. Just as the fire neared his hands, Madhu ran towards him and flung them away.

"Are you out of your mind?!" she spoke while stepping on the papers to put out the fire.

RK suddenly grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her, "YES. Yes I'm out of my mind. Because of you! Tell me Madhu. Tell me why you're really doing this!"

She stared at him silently, wanting to answer him truthfully but not being able to.

"I saw the care in your eyes. You ran to me before I could be burnt," he spoke with a bit of hope.

Her eyes widened slightly but she quickly lied, "No RK, that was to save the papers. Now I have to get new ones."

"WHY. TELL ME MADHU."

She knew there was no pointing in lying to him any longer. Knowing he wouldn't let her go until she spoke the truth, she decided to give it a shot, "Because of Sult…"

"Don't you dare Madhubala. Don't you DARE try to lie to me about that again."

"I'M NOT RK. Listen t…"

"I don't want to hear it," he let her go and turned his back towards her, "I want the truth."

"I'm telling you the truth."

"I know you don't love him," he turned to face her again, "You love only me."

"RK…it's Sultan. He's alive."

"Madhu! How many times do I have to tell you that Sultan is DEAD. You saw him die. I killed him! You identified his damn body."

No one believed her. No one ever would. She shook her head as tears formed in her eyes. With a quick spin, she ran out of their room.

Later That Night

Madhu walked slowly into their room, lost in her thoughts. Her eyes remained lowered to the ground. RK sat on their bed, wondering what had gotten into his Madhu so suddenly. As he heard her footsteps entering their room, he glanced in her direction. His eyes widened as he quickly got out of bed and ran towards her. He cupped her face but she kept her eyes to the ground as though she had given up.

"Madhu?! Madhu what happened?" RK gently wiped away the blood dripping from the side of her lip with his shirt. "Who did this to you?!"

Madhu kept silent and pulled free from his grip. She walked past him while speaking quietly, "It's no use telling you…telling anyone."

She went to sit on the edge of the bed. RK followed her and knelt in front of her.

"Madhu, tell me, I'm listening."

"No RK. You're not listening. You never were. No one believes me. No one ever will. There's no point in repeating myself when no one believes that Sul…"

"Sultan…?" RK questioned as he looked down in disbelief. RK raised his head after a moment of thought and stared at Madhu, "He did this to you?!"

She finally made eye contact with her husband and spoke with sorrow, "He did this to us."
