Hopeful prediction in the form of an OS.
Divorce?
"Divorce?" RK questioned in a raised tone.
"Yes RK. I want a divorce," Madhu used a low tone as her pain threatened to surface.
"Are you out of your mind?!"
"No. I want a divorce! Sign the papers RK! PLEASE."
Madhu stood in their room, holding the divorce papers in front of RK. He glanced down at Madhu with a confused expression.
"Are you pleading me to sign the papers Madhu?" he questioned in a suspecting tone.
"Yes…no…RK, just sign them! I want to leave. I want to be free from this, all of this! I can't take it anymore," she lied.
"I'm not signing the goddamn papers Madhu."
Madhu felt herself breaking on the inside as RK made her resort to her last idea.
"RK, don't you get it? This was all a plan; a stupid plan by none other than yours truly. Remember? The 'prem game'? You started it yourself didn't you? You thought you got the last move…but you didn't. All along you thought I loved you. You were wrong. My love for you died down way back wh…"
Before she could finish, RK had grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close. She gasped for air as her chest went smashing against his. Her eyes closed for a second before she slowly glanced up at her husband. He stared down with eyes full of remorse and sorrow.
Did he buy it? Madhu wondered.
Madhu's eyes flickered as her lips quivered with RK's eyes moving up and down her face. The tips of their noses scraped against each other as RK's intense look tried to read through Madhu. He tightened his grip on her waist, as she tried to push herself free. She hit his chest and struggled.
"RK…it hurts…let me go…"
He weakened his grip on her waist, letting her push him away gently. She stepped back and straightened out her dupatta before staring at RK with a fake look of anger. Then before she could speak, he interrupted her.
"You're lying."
"N…" she tried to deny it.
"I can see it in your eyes," he interrupted her.
"See what?"
"Love. For me."
She knew she'd never be able to hide her love for him, even if she tried. She sighed, thinking of a way to get RK to sign the papers.
"No RK. That's not love. It's hate. Hate for you. Hate for everything you ever did to me. I c…"
RK snatched the divorce papers out of her hands and stared at them as Madhu trailed off. Her eyes widened in fear and relief as she thought he was going to sign them. Her heart continued to shatter as RK read through the papers. Then with one look in Madhu's direction, the tearing sound of the papers echoed through the room. Madhu's mouth gaped open, as she knew it was too late to go back. She looked into RK's eyes and worried for what his future had in store.
"RK!" Madhu yelled out feeling helpless.
She watched as RK let the pieces of shredded paper fall to the ground. Then just as Madhu was about to bend to pick them up, he grabbed her by the shoulders gently. He made her stand and look him in the eyes. With one hand gently resting on the side of her face, he spoke.
"You weren't lying. He's really alive."
Madhu's eyes remained wide as she searched for words to speak.
"He did this to you…to my Madhu…what did he say Madhu?"
Madhu lowered her eyes, knowing she could no longer lie to RK.
"If I don't divorce you…he'll…"
"He'll kill me."
Madhu nodded her head as tears began to flow out of her eyes. RK placed his fingers below her chin and raised her head to look up at him. He slowly wiped away her tears and smiled.
"Nothing can happen to me as long as I have you Madhu. He's going to pay. He'll regret everything he's ever done to us. We'll get through this together."
And with that, he pulled her in for a comforting hug.
