She wanted to sleep
She tossed and turned, unable to find a comfortable position. She was hot, burning hot and yet she was drenched in her own sweat. Her throat was parched, her whole body hurt, she needed to move but she couldn't bear to move……Was this what hell felt like?
She could hear voices around her. Somewhere in the back of her mind she was conscious of people around her but she couldn't be bothered to focus on that now. The tight band around her head was squeezing, squeezing until all she could do was scream for mercy and relief from this terrible pain
There was some sort of a commotion going on somewhere near. She could hear raised voices and someone crying. She wished they would keep it down. Who were they? She knew she knew them but everything was blurred and hazy in her mind. They were people she knew and she was……..she couldn't remember and she didn't waste time on it. It was too much of an effort
The pain was spreading now. Her whole body felt as if it was being stabbed with a dozen flame tipped knives. She moaned and writhed trying to find ease, but nothing happened. She wanted, needed something or someone. A dark blurred face seemed to appear and reappear in and somehow that helped. But it seemed she was to be denied even the comfort of her delusions now
A particularly intense bought of pain hit her and she screamed, her body lifting off the bed only to be caught in midair. Two large hands seized her and tucked her close to a warm hard surface, holding her tightly until the paroxysm subsided
She gasped in relief as it came to an end and slowly opened her eyes to see what had caught her. She was met with a dark face staring into her, the face of her dreams, his eyes boring into her and glimmering with some strong emotion. She clutched at him thankfully, unable to remember who he was, only knowing that he was with her and she was safe now
"Don't leave me" she begged, holding onto him tightly and nestling further into his chest
He swallowed convulsively and after a minute of staring at her, tucked her closer to him and shifted so that he was now on the bed and she in his arms" I won't" he said, his voice husky
She sighed in relief and closed her eyes again. She felt a sudden wetness on her face and said without thinking "Don't cry". He didn't say anything for a moment and then said with a tremulous laugh" Biwi, that's supposed to be my line. But since you have decided to steal RK's lines, RK will deliver Madhu wala dialogues today. In this instance it would be
Jaan, I won't. But you have to promise to get well soon"
She smiled sleepily, his words not penetrating through the thick fog that surrounded her but soothing her all the same
He leaned closer and whispered into her ear, this time his voice pleading
"You do promise don't you?"
She nodded but reiterated the only thing she was conscious of" Don't leave me"
She felt him smile as he smoothed her hair off her forehead and caressed her face" Never darling. Now go to sleep"
She smiled again before finally slipping into that blessed world of unconsciousness
